Chapter 4 : Ben

Chapter 4 : Ben

Terry was silent at the question. His tongue felt too weak to speak. He was at a loss to tell Steve who he was. Moreover, they had just met because of a small incident.

Terry chose not to answer the question and focused himself on Steve's feet. The man in the black hoodie was soon massaging Steve's feet with full force.

"Terry, slow down. It hurts a lot," Steve pleaded while wincing.

Steve raised his head while biting his lip to stifle the scream that might come out of his lips. Tears were welling up in his eyes. Because for whatever reason, this was painful, as if his legs were being crushed by tons of metal.

Terry didn't hear Steve's request. He pulled out even more to treat Steve's sprained foot, which made Steve scream out loud.

Terry massaged Steve's ankle, which looked so swollen. Steve screamed in pain until his voice sounded so loud in this room.

After finishing, Terry applied cream and covered the foot he had just massaged using a bandage and gauze. The man in the black hoodie was satisfied to see that Steve's leg looked much better than before.

"Wait a few days. Your leg will heal back to normal," Terry said as he cleaned up the medicine box and put it under the table.

"Ukh, thank you," Steve said as he wiped the tears that were about to fall from the corner of his eyes with his hands.

"You're welcome," Terry replied briefly. He quickly reorganized the medicine box he had just taken out and put it under the table. "I'm also sorry for hurting your leg like that, Steve."

"It's okay," Steve replied with a small smile while patting Terry's shoulder. "I'm glad that you're taking the responsibility to treat my leg."

"Of course I should be responsible." Terry immediately sat beside Steve, resting his tired body. "Because a man should take responsibility for what he has done,"

"Yeah, I agree with that," Steve said with a small nod. For some reason, he felt comfortable chatting with Terry, who often spoke briefly. It was as if they had met a long time ago. "But your treatment methods are extreme. I almost cried from the pain.

"I just want your leg to heal soon," Terry replied, not to be outdone.

"Terry,"

Someone had just entered the door Terry had been using and called out his name. Apparently, it was a man. He had long, light brown hair tied in a high bun and a voice that was quite heavy and hoarse.

The man was wearing a red jacket with black training pants. The man's eyes had two different eye colors. The right one is green, while the left one is light blue. Steve thought that the man was suffering from heterochromia.

The man with discolored eyes walked over and approached Terry, who was sitting on the sofa. Without hesitation, he sat on the chair opposite Steve.

"Oh, who do I think I am?" Terry said in a flat tone. "What's wrong with calling me?"

"What about the data I requested?"

"It's all done. I've taken care of everything," Terry said, eating the chips on the table with his legs crossed. "Have you done your part yourself?" Asked Terry, looking at the man with a deeply furrowed brow.

"Sure. It's not difficult to take care of that task." The man with heterochromia eyes glanced at Steve, who was currently looking at him with a confused look. "Who is he?"

Terry followed the man's gaze and answered briefly. "The person I accidentally nudged when I was running from that group of crazy people," Terry replied in a casual tone, as if what he did was no big deal.

"You nudged him to hurt his leg like that?" asked the man in a disbelieving tone while looking at Steve's bandaged leg. "Unusually careless of you, Terry," commented the man in a husky voice.

"I'm just out of luck." Terry shrugged his shoulders. "But don't worry, he's not one of them, and I'm done treating him."

The man shook his head. Feeling strange about what he had just heard. There was no way Steve's leg would be hurt badly enough if it was just nudged. There must be something else that the man hadn't told him.

"Are you sure you just nudged him?" I asked the man with a doubtful face. "But why does his leg look so bad?"

Terry stopped chewing. He swallowed the chips in his mouth quickly. "Alright. I accidentally nudged her when he was stopped at the crossroads.”

Terry seemed to pause his words for a moment. His hand stretched out to get the drinking water on the table. After taking a sip, he resumed his interrupted sentence. "His leg hit the edge of the pavement, and he sprained it pretty badly."

"And you must have used your crazy massage tricks to treat it?" Guess the man. Terry nodded in response.

"I can't imagine how much pain he must have endured." The man gave a small grimace at the thought of Terry's massage. He moved closer to Steve, who was currently staring at him. "What's your name?"

"Steve," Steve replied briefly. He wasn't in the mood to talk much, considering the emotions, pain, and fear still overwhelming him.

The man frowned at Steve's short answer. His heterochromian eyes scanned the shabby-looking Steve from top to bottom without exception. "Don't have a full name, like a surname or something?" I asked the man again.

"No," Steve replied shortly. "I'm an orphan." He added honestly.

"I see," The man stroked his chin with a serious face. It was nothing new for someone to have only a nickname. The man with heterochromia eyes was intrigued by Steve's mysterious demeanor. He wanted to get to know Steve better. "Which orphanage are you from?"

"The Santa Maria orphanage near the city," Steve replied without hiding the fact.

"Eh?" The man and Terry immediately said this at the same time. Both looked at each other as if they were telepaths. "Are you from there?" The man asked curiously.

Steve frowned, not understanding why the two men he had just met looked surprised. "Yes, of course. Is something wrong?"

Both shook their heads quickly in response. "Ah, no. I'm just surprised," the heterochromia-eyed man replied awkwardly, while Terry chose to act unconcerned.

Steve narrowed his eyes, feeling dubious about the words spoken by the heterochromia-eyed man. "Are you sure you're not hiding something?"

"Of course not." The man gave a small nod with a reassuring look.

"Introducing, my name is Ben." The man smiled so widely that it made the atmosphere around him feel warm. In stark contrast to Terry, who was so tight-lipped and quite stiff, "Nice to meet you, Steve."

"Yeah, nice to meet you too, Ben." Steve smiled along with Ben's smile, which seemed to be contagious, giving off positive energy with a familiar feel. "So, you don't have a surname either?"

"No, I don't. Terry and I are both orphans." The man paused his words for a moment to glance at Terry. "And to be honest, I'm Terry's older brother," Ben continued briefly.

"Oh, I just found out you're siblings," Steve commented in a surprised tone, making Ben look at him with a faint smile.

"Yeah, I didn't expect to have a brother like Terry either," Ben chuckled.

"So, Steve, I feel that you look familiar to me. I feel like I've seen you on television," Ben continued.

"I have been on the telly a few times," Steve sighed heavily with a displeased look on his face. "I'm the former son-in-law of the Griffin family."

"Huh, are you serious?" Ben pounded the table in surprise.

"Yes, I'm serious. Why do you look so shocked?"

"Of course we're surprised because of your appearance—" Ben smothered Terry's mouth, who was about to utter a sarcastic word. Steve could only remain silent at the strange interaction between the brothers.

"What did I look like?"

"It's nothing. Don't worry about it," Ben replied with an awkward laugh. "So, can we ask you something?" He asked, changing the subject.

"Sure. What is it?"

"Do you know about the Griffin family's gold box?" Terry asked straight to the point after managing to break free from his brother's grasp.

Steve frowned as Terry asked the question. "The gold box? What are you talking about? And who exactly are you guys?"

Terry let out a long breath. "We are the men of Rosemary's family who are searching for her missing the heir."

"Then, why are you asking about the Griffin family's gold box if you are looking for Rosemary's heir?"

"There is a rumor that in that golden box, there is something hidden about the heir of Rosemary's family," Terry said in a low tone.

"Are you serious?"
