Chapter Seven

"Elusive huh" She laughed hysterically. She stared right into Aidan's eyes. "You might think you're elusive now but you're nothing but dust beneath my feet just like your miserable daughter who you'll never see again."

Aidan snorted. "Dust?" He growled. "Yet you're threatened by my very presence, particularly since you have no idea how I got out of jail."

Madam Doris, pained by those words, raised her hand to slap Aidan but her hand was held in mid-air. She looked and saw an emotionless Aidan with bloodshot eyes holding her hand.

"The Aidan you knew is different from me. I would break you in an instant without remorse whatsoever." Aidan spoke harshly with red-hot eyes. Fear flashed in Madam Doris's eyes.

Suddenly, Madam Doris broke into tears noticing people's eyes were now on them. "Oh my God! Is this how you treat your customers? He hit me, a poor old, helpless woman like me." She wriggled her hand from Aidan's grip.

"They all ganged up on me" She formed crocodile tears instantly pointing at them.

Sadie, surprised by her antics, spoke. "No one hurt you. You're only displaying this ruse because your other plans didn't work out."

She turned to Sadie and snickered in disdain. "Colt right? I know you. Your mother is still indebted to me. You forget so quickly how I saved her life and you open your filthy mouth to speak to me?"

Sadie retorted. "And I remember we paid back your services in full. It's time for you to leave our premises"

Aidan walked closer to her breathing heavily. "You'll regret taking Rachel from me, I promise you. I will be the darkness in your light, the doom you've feared for years. Keep this in your mind." He spoke sternly and snapped at the security to take her out.

"Oh and before you go, Doris, you're banned from the hotel henceforth." He smirked.

"You're nothing." She scoffed and stormed out before the security touched her with the policemen trailing behind.

"She's banned from this place henceforth." Sadie reiterated the orders to sink into the staff's head.

Aidan took his phone and called the attorney as soon as he got back to his hotel room.

"I need everything you can get your hands on concerning the Hartfords, I want them to squirm and hide whenever they hear my name," Aidan growled over the phone.

"Yes Sir."

A couple of minutes later, he was on his way to the company for the handover of Ackerman Inc. Their drive was halted by traffic. It was going to be an hour in traffic and Aidan got tired. He decided to walk as the office building wasn't that far from them. He had walked most of his life anyway. He got down against his driver's will.

A few turns away, the weather changed and it showed signs of rainfall. He was cursing himself for not waiting in the car when he noticed a building that had the Ack Subsidiaries boldly written on it. He entered mostly to shield himself from the rain.

He discovered that it was a luxury shopping mall. He entered one of the shops; a diamond shop and decided to shop for himself but he stumbled on Ethan Clay and his sinister wife instead.

"It still baffles me how you work freely, a criminal and a loser like you," Mallory said mocking Aidan as soon as she saw him.

She turned to the receptionist. "Watch out for that one, he's a thief and I can attest to his thievery." The receptionist looked him up and down.

"How much is that?" Aidan asked the receptionist while ignoring Mallory, the price of the most luxurious watch he saw already on the desk.

"I'm sorry, but I'm sure you can't afford that. That watch is customized especially for Mr. Ethan Clay and even if it wasn't, you couldn't afford it still." She snorted disdainfully.

"What!" Aidan was taken aback by her words.

Ethan laughed. "Bold of you to come into this shop and grab the most expensive watch. I wonder where you got your audacity from"

Mallory sneered coldly. "A loser like you thinking you can fool this fine place like you fooled my naive sister" She chuckled coldly.

Aidan who had been silent all these while suddenly flashed a smile. Aidan stared right into Mallory's eyes. "Do you think that I'm incapable of paying for the watch?" He asked as a sinister thought flashed in his head.

"Yes! You were a worthless son-in-law who sucked my gullible sister to survive. So I know you're unfit to pay for the cheapest watch here let alone this watch." Mallory replied exuberantly.

"Fine. Let's make a bet. The most expensive watch there is and whoever has the money to pay for the watch and every other thing here on the desk stays and the loser is thrown out in the rain." Aidan said, smirking.

"You must think I'm a fool to believe you have the money to pay for that. "He chuckled out loud. "You must be joking to think I would stoop so low to enter into a stupid bet with a loser like you" Ethan retorted.

"Are you scared of me beating you the mighty Ethan Clay?" Aidan said somewhat loudly, grabbing the attention of other shoppers.

Ethan cracked up cruelly. "I'm going to have the last laugh." He turned to the receptionist and before long the manager of the diamond store was alerted. Mallory folded her hands waiting for Aidan's humiliation.

She introduced herself as Tinna. "The watch you requested is $5million." The manager said. Ethan gasped softly because that amount for the watch alone wasn't up to his savings not to talk of the other purchases added. He fidgeted with the hem of his shirt.

"You look nervous Ethan" Aidan taunted as he noticed Ethan's body movement but he just rolled his eyes at him.

"Your cards please," Tinna asked. Aidan dropped his card but Ethan hesitates until he is nudged by Mallory to do so.

The watch was brought out encased in a special box. The box was opened with the manager's fingerprints and it wowed onlookers with diamonds carefully encrusted within the watch.

The manager tried Ethan's card first and beads of sweat formed on his forehead. She swiped and the machine made a declining sound saying "Insufficient balance"

"Try it again, it must be your machine, I know this is too small for me to pay.You know me" He spoke and chuckled nervously with his heart in his mouth.

"Sir, our machines are sourced and made from the very best quality…"

"Just freaking try it again and shut your damn mouth!" Mallory cuts in as Tinna was talking. She shook her head, gave a disgusted look, and swiped the card for the second time and the machine gave the same answer.

"Would you like me to keep wasting everybody's time?" She asked sarcastically with a frown. Ethan kept mute.

She took Aidan's card and swiped it, immediately, the card showed his identity as Ackerman--His father had given him one of his cards to use as one was being made available for him. She looked at Aidan with curiosity and swiped the card again to confirm. She glanced at Aidan "Excuse me Sir" and scurried away to her office for a moment taking the watch along.

Mallory noticed and her spirits lifted. "Imagine making a bet when you don't have the money yourself to fulfill your part."

"A scammer and a riffraff is what you are." She turned to the receptionist who was mean to Aidan before. "I told you before he's nothing more than a crook, better double your security before he makes away with your pieces of jewelry" She spat proudly but her husband Ethan had somehow retreated to a corner from the embarrassment he just received.
