Claude poured coffee into his mother-in-law's glass. Slowly and very carefully so that not a single drop of the coffee in the glass pot dripped onto his mother-in-law.
Anne, Claude's mother-in-law, looked at the man with a sardonic gaze. In this luxurious house and in the Adelman family, Claude was nothing more than a useless son-in-law. A poor, unemployed man who could only bring shame to the Adelman family.
Anne reached for her glass elegantly and inhaled the aroma of the coffee. Claude watched his mother-in-law, who was now taking a sip of coffee. "Mother, can I borrow some more money for my mother's needs?"
Anne's eyes widened perfectly. She put down her coffee cup so roughly that it made a loud clinking sound. The coffee in her mouth almost spurted out. Anne got up with her hands around her waist, immediately rebuking Claude. "Don't you have any self-respect? You're a shameless man. All this time you've been giving my daughter a hard time. You're such a useless husband! You should be ashamed if you still have the brains to think! Poor Olivia has a pathetic husband like you."
"Don't think because you saved Olivia, you can ask me for money! You have nothing but trouble!" Anne's breath coming fast, she pointed at her son-in-law.
"Mother, I saved Olivia because I couldn't see a woman doing that and we both loved each other." Claude spoke calmly, and he didn't want to anger Anne further.
"I will never accept you as my son-in-law! Olivia should have married Marley, a rich man from a respectable family, not you! You're a trashy man!" Anne shouted. She held her forehead to relax her a little.
Anne snorted in annoyance as she folded her arms across her chest. "Unbelievable. Until this moment I still wonder what made Olivia want to marry you. You don't even have a penny. What does she get out of you? What a life I have with a poor, jobless, useless son-in-law like you."
Claude couldn't defend himself. Everything his mother-in-law said was true. He could only stay silent and squeeze her hand tightly because he also knew that all this time, he could only rely on Olivia.
Anne regulated her breathing, she sat back on the chair while looking at Claude. "You really need money for your mother's medical expenses, huh?"
"That's right, Mom." Claude answered with a careful tone of voice because he felt reluctant to his mother-in-law.
Anne picked up her coffee cup, took a sip, and then placed it back on the table. "I will lend you the money to pay for your mother's treatment, but on one condition."
Claude's brow furrowed. "What condition?" He was curious. Claude desperately needed money for his terminally ill mother's treatment. If possible, he would do anything to get the money.
Anne smiled sarcastically. She narrowed her eyes as she grinned at Claude. "You should divorce Olivia." Anne thought that Olivia could find a better husband than Claude.
Claude was surprised to hear his mother-in-law's request. "I can't divorce Olivia." Of course, Claude didn't want to divorce Olivia because he also loved his wife.
"You are so stubborn. Hey! Listen! There are many men who like Olivia, she can certainly marry a wealthy man who has a company, a house, a car, and can spend a lot of luxurious things on Olivia compared to you trash that was picked up by my daughter!" Anne cursed while pointing at Claude repeatedly. Her hatred for Claude would never go away, she was so ashamed of that lowly man.
Poor and troublesome.
"Are you deaf!? You don't want to divorce Olivia? Marley Darlin from the Darlin family is perfect for my daughter, he is rich and covets Olivia. If Olivia marries him, Olivia can live like a queen instead of a hobo!"
Anne was so upset that her chest was rising and falling, so obviously, her body temperature was heating up because of this. As for Claude, he had been wringing his hands and trying to restrain himself, but he opened his mouth to reply to his father-in-law's words.
"Mo-"
"Aunty Anne! I'm so happy to see you! You're beautiful as always!"
Marley arrived at the house and spread her arms, and hugged Anne.
Anne's expression immediately changed, she looked very happy. "Marley, I'm glad to see you now." The second Anne saw Marley, she looked at Claude indifferently.
"I'm glad to see you too, Aunty Anne. Are you ready to go for a walk with me?" Marley looked at Anne, but Anne didn't look ready and made a sad face.
Today Marley had promised to pick Anne up and take her for a walk while shopping. Later, they would pick up Olivia to have fun together. Anne couldn't let go of this opportunity, she could get Marley's luxury items that she wouldn't be able to get from her useless son-in-law.
"This is all because of him. This ignorant child makes me forget, he does often make my head hurt, Marley." Anne blamed everything on Claude.
Marley immediately looked at Claude, the shabbily dressed man he had hated initially. There was nothing good about him.
He was much better than Claude!
"Aunty, you're dealing with trash like him. It's very troublesome, but don't worry. He'll get a divorce and Olivia will marry me." Marley released her hug and looked down at Claude.
"You won't be able to do that, she and I are getting married, we're so in love."
Marley laughed at Claude's words. "Hey, you're poor. Olivia won't be happy with you, you can't even afford a potato and you talk nonsense. Your brain is so empty, do you think you can just live like a parasite like you, huh!?"
Marley was the man Olivia had previously been set up with, and Olivia had rejected him. It annoyed him to see that the man Olivia had married was of a standard far below his, he was poor, had a lot of debts, and was also brain-dead.
"Marley, his head is empty. He hardly understands what we're saying, he's so poor and embarrassing that he borrowed money from me earlier. He really is so shameful!"
Anne emphasized her sentence, she now folded her hands in front of her chest, showing an unusually arrogant attitude.
Then Marley's voice rang out, she was satisfied to hear Anne's contempt for this lowly man before her.
"That's right, he's very stupid. I'll replace him soon, you won't be able to be Olivia's husband anymore." Marley grinned, mocking the man who squeezed her hand tightly.
"You!"
"Shut up, Claude! You don't even have the right to make a sound in my house! You have no brains, and seeing you here makes me unable to breathe properly. Now you better get out of our presence!"
Anne moved her hand, she shooed Claude away, and an angry Claude chose to leave their presence. His face looked hard from the overwhelming emotion. He loved Olivia, and so did Olivia, if s
he was forcibly separated, of course, he didn't want to.
"I need more money." Claude looked down. "My mom... I won't let them get her out of the hospital."
Claude had a part-time job at a small restaurant near his house, but for some reason, at work, he often got into trouble and was eventually fired. It happened so many times that it seemed so strange.
Finally, Claude arrived at a park, on a park bench, he chose to sit. Just as he sat down, a man appeared at his door.
"Young master Claude." Suddenly made, Claude stared at the man with wide eyes.
A well-dressed man approached Claude and bowed his head respectfully before him. "I finally found you, young master."
Claude's brow furrowed. He looked to his left and right to make sure that there was no one other than himself that the man before him was referring to as Young Master. "Who are you?" He felt confused at suddenly being called young master by a stranger. The man before Claude smiled kindly. "I was trusted by an important figure to bring you back and you should get what has been yours."The man's words made Claude even more confused. He didn't understand what the man was saying. Claude wondered to himself, bring back where? And what will he get? What did he have? He didn't feel like he had anything. "I don't understand what you're saying. It seems like you've got the wrong person."The man before Claude shook his head. "No, Young Master. I don't have the wrong person." He reached into one of his coat pockets, took out a small black card, and then held it out to Claude. "You are my young master, and this is just a little gift that can help you, this black card has a money limit of 100 mil
The hospital clerk behind the administration desk nodded his head hesitantly, reaching for the black card in Claude's hand. He swiped it, and a receipt came out of the computer. "All the bills are paid in full."Of course, it surprised Claude that all the hospital bills were paid, which meant Bruce wasn't fooling him. There really was a huge amount of money in it. Claude couldn't believe he could finally pay off his mother's medical expenses. And at the same time, Ronald still didn't seem to believe it.Ronald walked fast towards Claude with a haughty look on his face. "Where does a poor man like you get money from?"Claude reached for the receipt. The clerk returned the black card to Claude. Ronald looked at the black card with a serious face and thought that the money Claude used to pay off all Claude's mother—Wendy's bills was his wife's money. Ronald grinned. Ronald knew that Claude was a poor son-in-law.Ronald folded his arms across his chest as he chuckled with a sardonic smile
Everyone who was there was shocked to see that. Ronald held his hot and sore cheek while looking at Alex with a confused look"Why did you slap me? What did I do wrong? I was working according to the procedure." He was still trying to defend himself, ” He’s in arrears for his mother's hospitalization!”"I paid my mother's bill!" Claude spoke firmly. Alex pointed at Ronald with a sharp, angry glare. "You've really pissed me off. Starting today, you are fired!" Ronald widened his eyes perfectly. "What? Why am I suddenly fired?" He asked Alex for an explanation, but Alex made a face, reluctant to answer his question. "Please tell me what I did wrong?" "Your mistake was fatal, Ronald! You've misbehaved with an honorable man!" Alex spoke in a restrained voice full of anger. Alex bowed his head respectfully to Claude. "Please forgive us, sir." Alex looked terrified in front of Claude. Ronald's brow furrowed. "Honorable man? Sir? Are you sick, sir? How can a poor man like him have such
Claude remembered that there were 100 million dollars on the black card. "So, I do come from a rich family?"Claude looked at the store in front of him, it had been a long time since he had given a present to Olivia-his beautiful wife would definitely be very suitable for a good gift. Claude took a breath from his mouth, this was the first time he had walked into an expensive store, so he was a little nervous that he might make a mistake. The salesgirl at the store he passed by greeted him kindly. "Good afternoon, please have a look around, sir. We have some nice things."Claude continued to walk around, looking at bags, shoes, and clothes with famous brands. He didn't know those big brands at all. Claude couldn't decide which one to choose for Olivia's birthday present."That's very pretty." Claude stopped when he saw a ring in the jewellery store window.Claude walked into the jewellery store and approached the display case with two employees chatting there. "Excuse me, I'd like to
The jewellery store manager was surprised by Claude's offer. Buying this jewellery store? He noticed Claude's modest appearance, unlike the other customers in fancy clothes. The manager wasn't sure if Claude had the money to buy even one piece of jewellery in this store. The manager chuckled in response to Claude. "Are you kidding me? Don't waste my precious time on useless jokes!""I'm not joking, sir." Claude said with a serious face. The manager, named Robert, shook his head. "Nonsense." He gave Asley a sharp look. "What an idiot. You're taking his words seriously? I came all the way down here just to respond to this joke? You can't work properly?""She's a fool, sir!" Another salesgirls shouted at Asley."No one wanted to serve that man earlier, but Asley came as a hero to serve him." They complained to Robert about Asley serving Claude."What did that man say earlier? Want to buy this shop?" The servants laughed at Asley and Claude. "They're both stupid!"Claude did not feel ange
The Dracena family!Alan's face turned pale immediately. He bowed his head fearfully before Claude. "I-I'm sorry, sir. I made a mistake." Alan stuttered. Alan was afraid that Claude would be angry if he found out they offered a price much higher than the actual price. He heard a lot about the Dracena family, which was the most potent and mysterious one. All businessmen knew that the Dracena family owned almost every business. Many companies were under the control of the Dracena family. "I'm sorry, sir," Alan said in a frightened tone. Suddenly it shocked everyone who was there. "Why is the director suddenly apologizing?" "I don't know either. This is very strange. What happened?" The servants wondered about each other. They were confused about what had happened. Robert, who was also confused, whispered something to Alan. "Sir, why are you apologizing to him?" "Be quiet. Hurry up and apologize too." Alan nudged Robert's arm, which made Robert look down, not understanding. Claud
Anne was surprised to see the brand of jewelry on the gift box. "That's a famous jewelry brand that my friends often brag about. It's costly. You can't possibly afford it. It must be a fake ring, right?" Claude shook his head. "No, it's a real ring, ma'am. I bought it directly from the shop for Olivia." Anne snatched the jewelry box from Claude's hand and examined it. "It must be a fake!" She put the box on the dining table. "You insolent son-in-law. You're trying to fool us, aren't you? Do you think we don't know what a real ring looks like? You idiot!" "But this is a real ring, ma'am." Claude defended himself by showing Anne the ring. Anne ruffled her feathers in annoyance. "What do you think we are? It's worth tens of millions of dollars. Do you think we'll believe you? Where do you think you have the money? Just to buy vegetables, you still ask my daughter!" Olivia sighed. She got up and looked at the ring. "Claude, that's not a real ring because I know you can't possibly have
Claude looked coldly at Marley. "I would never envy someone like you." Marley again pointed his index finger at Claude's face. "Then why are you acting like that?" "I'm the owner of the shop where you bought the jewelry," Claude spoke calmly, not hesitating to face the man in front of him. Anne and Marley laughed again at this. Anne gave Claude a sharp look. "Never mind, stop lying. You'll only embarrass me and Olivia." "I'm not lying, Mom." Claude reiterated to his mother-in-law that he was telling the truth. Marley laughed as he girded his loins. "You think we'll believe you?" He shook his head with a grin. "If you were telling the truth, I'd be licking your feet. Now, where's the proof?" Claude smiled as he pulled his cell phone from his pants pocket and dialed Asley. "Asley." "Yes, sir? Can I help you?" asked Asley kindly from the other side. Claude gave Marley a cold look. "Send me the ten most expensive pieces of jewelry in the store to my house. I'll send you the address
