Chapter Four

Minutes have passed Dylan still finds the situation he's in a joke, he's a grown man and for whatever reason, they thought they could turn his head as they like.

"What? That suits him better." Wayne let out without remorse. "It's not like he does his worth at the company or at home either."

Debbie let out the most annoying scourge. "Who cares after all he's tired and weak like a chicken." She scoffed.

"Dylan looks pale, he can't survive without us, that is certainly more like us trying to ease the burden on him."

Natalie, tired of what the mother along with her sister, Wayne we're doing swarming over the honey let out an irritated sigh.

"Let's be informed this is not the right time to bring about my. . ." Natalie raised her brow and gave DYLAN, a kind of irritated look.

"Fine I messed up big time, can we talk inside Natalie?" Dylan proposed with a warm smile.

"Not from you either, I don't want to hear anything." Natalie slammed the door and hit out.

"This is a whole lot of problems I can't find myself thinking that this big for nothing is still sticking around here."

"I'm not bragging but if you need my help for anything I would be more than glad to assist, there is nothing that is beyond my power in this city." Lucien pats his hand on his chest.

"You would have been the perfect son-in-law Lucien." Debbie glanced painfully at the door Natalie slammed.

She had tried all she could to let her daughter see that there is something more than what she thought she was doing, she let out a sigh, somehow this sign was filled with confidence and that means she has come so far to give in.

"Let me see that." Wayne snatched the flower from Lucien.

"Wayne, what are you doing?" Debbie asks with a glare.

"I'm trying to fill in the space of Natalie, isn't that what I have to always do?"

Debbie smashed the flower from her hand. "This should be placed at the corner there. It's not for you, you've brought me nothing but a headache, don't be greedy." Debbie warned her, Wayne shivering with goosebumps almost all over her face and stuck her tongue to the roof of her mouth.

"This is not a big deal, it's only a matter of time, Mother, you should know I have a whole garden of patience," Lucien assures Mrs Debbie.

"I know and for that reason, I'm going to do what it takes to get rid of that good for nothing." She hisses. "Please water your garden of patience son." She pats Lucien's shoulder.

Lucien with a laugh across his face turns on his heels. Natalie hates this she felt belittled that her mother was underrating her and at the same time taking action in her stead.

"Mother, I can't believe you're this cheap." Natalie boycotted her mother.

"What? How dare you speak back at me." Debbie flared. "Cheap! You daughter of nobody." She slapped Natalie on her left cheek.

Natalie had been the quietest and most intelligent person in the family. She was made to marry Dylan to keep her position under control in the family as the illegitimate daughter of her father.

Debbie was stunned by how she had the guts to talk back to her when what she was meant to do was remain silent and just play along.

"Mother, don't take it to heart I'm hurt by everything. I want you to know I do not tend to take that proud bastard for a spouse."

"That is not within your court, is it? You do what you're supposed to do for the interest of the family." Debbie cornered Natalie. "And better not overstretch your mouth, it might not turn out well for you."

Before Debbie could let out, Wayne stopped her. " It turns out Natalie had gotten some guts. But what will you do now? I should tell you that Lucien is hosting a grand ball that every patriarch will be attending. But Natalie doesn't look frightful of you this time."

Wayne dipped the treacle into her mother's stomach. "She dares not, she had never disobeyed me before."

"Nor had she taken any chance to speak back at you before. That is the difference between the two sides."

Debbie cracked her fingers and she beamed and anxious at her words.

"It's just a piece of cake Mother, I'm ready to take them to the party if she refuses."

Wayne chuckled inwardly seeing the bitterness in her mother's eyes she thought they were even.

Natalie turned to her right facing Dylan. Dylan was surprised, they had been married for years but not for once had Natalie tried to take a talk to the table with her.

But then figured out that she had never objected or stood for herself even for once before. So this sudden action of hers was a whole lot and she just wanted to find a chance to get out of it.

"Dylan too had the guts to barge into this house a few he left without informing anyone. It only suits him that you got him lined up for the auction."

"You're right, you can't let us feed him and his family for almost six years and he won't do something to pay us back. This auction will mean a bunch of entertainment on cloud nine."

Francis nods and agrees with Debbie's words. "But if there should be anything, give it to me. I might need him at some point.

They wanted to let Natalie down before their father and remind him of how worthless the man she married was. This was to snatch her position as the company's treasurer if she declined Lucien.

"The auction is today Dylan, you can't say you won't go."

Wayne sweeps in her opinion from the side. "He has no choice." There was an outburst of laughter.

"I'm not going," Dylan spoke back. Silence washed over the room. Wayne gives Francis the palest look.

"It's not a choice Dylan, we own you, people like you belong to the street."

"I'm not an animal and yes the street might be better."

"Yet you're back. Is it too harsh? You're used to feeding off of other's cups that you've grown wings on."

Dylan balled his hand into a fist, he's not supposed to be here he was certain of that after his massive inheritance but he has to be under the Bush family for the time being.

If he was given a chance he would prove to them that they were nothing compared to his new life as the head of the consortium.

Natalie didn't say anything but her expression has never been this bitter before. She let out a sigh.

She wanted Dylan to be working like other men but he isn't meeting up with standards and gives her a whole lot of headache.

The following day didn't hesitate to come by.

"Where is he? He thinks he can escape it, no way." Wayne cried along the house.

Her adrenaline was shooting at the realization that Dylan will be auctioned out today and Natalie will look helpless.

"So early to start with gimmicks." Francis smiled, poking his sister's nose.

"There is no greater feeling than this Dylan. Don't worry we are your allies, we will make sure you get to a great family where you'd work your lazy ass out."

Hearing this Natalie frowned slowly and her face was boiling.

She actually thought they were joking but only to figure out the auctioning was a real deal.

"I told you no one is dragging Dylan."

Wayne chuckled hysterically. "No, you won't be present at the auction. Oh, I forgot you have to be there."

Dylan stared into his wife's eyes demanding a recourse. "Both of you look startled." Wayne chuckled and turned to her side.

"Mother, Mother. I prepared a surprise for you." Wayne rushed towards her mother.

She made a purse on the staircase. "Don't mess it up other than it is," Debbie said lightly.

"Hear me out first. Natalie is going to attend the grand party at Lucian and there well. . ." she rolls her eyes mockingly.

Francis had always been against Dylan and as Wayne's accomplice, he slammed in. "Dylan will be auctioned there, Mother."

Mrs Debbie was more startled than Dylan and Natalie.

Is he a dog? A random animal without dignity.

They're clearly humiliating him.

"Mother, what do you think? It's going to be a grand party." Wayne asked her mother with a very awkward expression.

Mrs Debbie didn't think it was a nice idea. She sat down and pointed at Dylan behind him. Everyone was curious as to her reaction.

"That sounds great, Dylan needs to learn of the outside world other than us."

Wayne looked mockingly at Dylan.

"Mother, that is slavery. Have you. . ."

"No one has forgotten he's your good-for-nothing husband now shut up and find something elegant to wear for the grand party. Forget about Dylan he would do as he's told."

Natalie wasn't pleased with any of them.

"What! Are you going to stand there!?" She yelled frustrated at Dylan.

"There is no point in holding back."

"Some people are thick-skinned. Anyway, he has a wife to take care of him so he won't be bothered." Francis coughed out.

The mother-in-law, Debbie leaned back into the chair. "The auction is before the party, go on, get ready."

"He's not ashamed, you're just selfish Dylan you don't care about your wife, If you do you would've literally done anything to ease Natalie's burden."

Natalie was quiet, and Dylan was lost in thought thinking about how he would be presented to the public. Suddenly a bottle of water hit him hard in his head.

"What's that for?" Dylan asked his mother in his hand, rubbing back and forth on the spot where he was hit by the bottle.

Dylan was overly tired of this treatment. He's the heir of the Dorogo and the consortium that comprises all the abilities in Stone City, they're stepping on his tail he would be mind placing them where they belong.

His rage was something else, "What was the for?" He asked in a low condescending tone.

Mrs Debbie felt shocked all over but she didn't let it show she then scoffed. "Leave Natalie alone. If you don't, this auctioning will humiliate you a hundred times and you will be forced to leave her the hard way. I will make you regret meeting her!"

Dylan sighs moving to the corner, a finger tipping him off. "It's that way, loser!" Francis mocked. In his life he had never met people like this family, they drain the exhaustion out of him.

Just then Dylan's phone rang, he wasn't sure who was calling him with the unknown number but his instincts tell him not to answer his calls in their presence.

He got to one corner. "What is wrong with them? Do they know who you are to list you up for auction? The Dorogo will auction each and every one of them with their assets." A voice booming with anger said from the other side.

"I know, if I must carry out undercover I should play along," Dylan replied.

Pocketing his phone he returns to the living room but before he could raise his voice a bunch of groceries were dumped into his hands.

"What? What's with that look, stop acting as if cooking is a big deal, we must feed before we go now hurry up."

Meanwhile, Natalie's elder sister walked in landing a disdainful stare at Dylan.

"Big for nothing, didn't I tell you to do my laundry?" The woman shouts at him.

Dylan turned to chop the vegetables and concentrated on cooking. "Gina, I'm cooking. I will take your clothes to the laundry after." He added with a warm smile that hurt his cheeks.

Irked by his calm demeanour, Gina slammed her hand across his cheeks. Seeing the red print of her hand on his cheeks she felt a feeling of satisfaction.

She twitched her face as her hand held to her chest. "Sister Gina, is everything okay?"

Then she bursts into laughter, he doesn't know what she finds amusing.

Her laughter suddenly fades into a frown. "Make sure you wash my clothes else I will make sure you end up with the worst of fate at your auction shameless BASTARD!"

Dylan watched as she walked out of the room like a bully then he pulled the glove frustratedly inch by inch out of his fingers.

Dylan soaked the towel and then moved his fingers to the pad and slowly traced it up to the pot on the burner.

"Idiot! We saw the special number that called you, what were you planning on the phone huh?" Dylan's eyes shoot up seeing his phone in Wayne's hand.

"Tell us who do you work for?" Dylan felt a slap on his cheeks. Dylan touched his cheeks, and almost everyone slapped and punched him as if they found him a sport. "Who is the man you're acting undercover for?"
