Outside the Grand Blue Restaurant, Anthony brought out the ID card to stare at it, about to make a left turn into the next road.
"Who could have thought that this tiny thing would mean the difference between being jobless and under the control of my f*cking in-laws and now having part-time jobs in three different locations? I could have gotten my share of her hospital bills already if I had just done this since day one" he mumbled, finally turning the corner
He scoffed "I guess it all happened for a reason because I wouldn't be trying to regain my power if I ha—" out of nowhere, a kid ran into him and fell to the ground.
"Ouch, my butt!" The kid complained, wincing and rubbing his butt "Why don't you watch where you're walking Mr." The kid yelled, not even looking up to see who he was talking to
"Huh? What the hell did you just say to me you stupid brat?!" Anthony was furious, glaring at the kid who finally looked up at him and saw who he had just run into.
Instantly he shriveled, smiling pretentiously and knowing fully well that he was about to be in big trouble "Uncle Anthony, how are you doing?"
"!!" Anthony remained quiet, crossing his arms with a stare that let the kid know that he was about to be reprimanded.
The kid tried to stand up and face whatever punishment Anthony would give him, but…
"Huh? What's this?" the kid saw an ID card on the floor with his attention being drawn to Anthony's face on it so he picked it up.
"Uncle Anthony, why do you have a fake ID?" he looked curious, taking it and showing the ID to Anthony.
"Gimme that!" Anthony swiped it from his hand, looking somewhat guilty and the kid was quick to notice so he grinned mischievously "You should mind your business" Anthony said
"Ohh? It's something you'd like to keep secret, isn't it? Hehehe." The kid folded his arms, smirking confidently.
"What do you think my father, the POLICE CAPTAIN is going to say about you, having a fake ID card, huh Uncle Anthony?! Not good, not good at all" the kid shook his head.
Anthony smacked his tongue. "This brat!"
"Hehehe, seems like I've got you trapped Uncle Anthony so here's the deal we're going to make. I won't tell dad about your fake ID and you won't tell on me for being rude to you, deal?" he extended his hand for a handshake
Anthony shook his head and then went on to connect hands which made the kid swipe underneath his nose, celebrating his accomplishment with a huge grin.
"Now that we've gotten that out of the way, what are you doing here Samuel? Shouldn't you be in school now? And where's your uniform?" Anthony asked and Samuel jolted.
"Well, you see, Umm… Sigh! I skipped school okay" he dropped his head defeatedly.
"Why?"
"Truth is I wanted to see sister and if I was still in uniform the people at the hospital wouldn't have let me in without adult supervision. Not that it worked because they still didn't let me in since I wasn't there with either dad or you" Samuel said.
"So you weren't able to find out how she was then?"
"Huhn? Who do you take me for? Of course, I did, hehehe" Samuel swiped underneath his nose again but not looking as proud this time.
"So how was she? In stable condition?"
"Umm, I think so. All the doctors and the machines helping to support sis Amanda were all calm so I think she's fine" Samuel said then quickly became gloomy, lowering his head and clenching his fists "for now at least"
"!!" Anthony didn't say anything back
"Umm, uncle Anthony, I don't mean to sound rude and you can report me to dad and mom if you want but when are you going to complete your share of the bills for the surgery huh? I keep hearing dad talk about it and even though he doesn't have his complete yet, you have those rich in-laws of yours who could help pay for everything so what's stopping them from helping us?" Samuel's eyes were flooded with tears.
"I know she isn't my biological sister and is only the daughter of dad's dead partner but to me, she's still family just like dad, mom, and you. I don't want to lose her and it hurts that I'm not old enough to help her out" snot started coming out from one of his nostrils which he wiped aggressively, snorting
Anthony was lost for words. This was the first time he was hearing Samuel speak this way and for a very talkative kid, that says a lot.
Anthony felt hesitant but still placed his hand on Samuel's head "Don't worry about it, Samuel. You're still a kid so keep being one. This is something that we adults should bother ourselves with. I just need a little more time so can you help me out and be strong for your sister? What will she think if she finds out that you were crying like this?"
Samuel aggressively wiped his tears away "Okay, I'll do that Uncle"
"Good" Anthony smiled, dropping his hand from the boy's head
"I should start getting back to school now," Samuel said then started to walk around Anthony but stopped when Anthony said one last thing.
"Stop rushing around when walking outside okay? You could trip and hurt yourself" Anthony advised.
"Hehe, don't worry Uncle, nothing can hurt me, but I'll be careful watching where I'm going," Samuel said then ran off.
..Evening came quickly and Anthony had already started work at The Grand Blue Restaurant, wearing their typical waiter's uniform.
Black pants, shoes, and tucked white cooperate long-sleeve shirt. On top is their signature red velvet vest with their name tag on the left chest area, in gold characters.
Anthony has good people skills when he wants to so it didn't take long for him to blend in and get into a good working relationship with all his fellow staff. It also helped that Casey and Michael already knew him so they helped smooth things over with the others
"Hey Favorite, Michael and I are gonna head out so can you help us take out the garbage? The bin is at the back" Casey asked then both she and Michael waved Anthony goodbye as they left for home.
Anthony took the trash to the waste bin at the back for dumping. It was already night time but this part of town was also very lively.
The weather was nice and he felt like taking in some fresh air before heading back when at the other side of the very busy road, he saw Samuel skipping by the pavement, heading home which wasn't far from here.
"This brat, why the hell is he still out by this time? I'm pretty sure he snuck out. Maybe I should call Mr's Faller and tell her so she knows to keep a close eye on him" he said, walking closer to the pavement, and taking out his phone to call Samuel's mother
He called and got distracted from Samuel by the voice telling him that the number he had called is busy
"Hmm, wonder what she's doing—" he wasn't able to finish when he looked back at Samuel, and from the shop that Samuel was in front of, the door was abruptly pushed forward.
The door slammed right into Samuel, sending him diving into the road where a truck was driving by.
"Huh?" Samuel mumbled when all he could see was a truck right in front of him and the headlights blasting all over his body.
"SAMUEL!" Anthony screamed.
Last chapter for today. Thanks to everyone who’s reading and unlocking the chapters to do so, a comment would be nice
"Ah! I caught you!" Exclaimed a panting voice Seeing Samuel getting shoved and falling towards the street, Anthony screamed out his name, reflexively reaching out with one of his hands even though the distance between them was too great that he wouldn't even be able to do anything. The driver of the incoming truck panicked and smashed the brakes as hard as he could. Unfortunately, the distance between them was so small that their impact was certain, but still, he tried. The truck's tires skid forward, about to hit Samuel while at the other side of the road Anthony watched, unable to do anything. Suddenly, his eyes flicked to a few meters behind Samuel where he saw a man, an aged man in a carton brown pants suit, reaching out for Samuel. Everything happened so fast that before Anthony knew it the aged man had grabbed onto Samuel's wrist, then pulled the preteen towards himself. *VROOM* The truck passed, nobody was hit and the person on the passenger seat, whose heart felt like
Since the beginning, the manager had had his head bowed ever so slightly that it looked like he had a slouch but in truth, he didn't ("Oh, one last thing. Always remember to lower your head when in the presence of these guests.") The manager told Anthony during the interview but Anthony responded with silence at the time. The manager took that as compliance but he was wrong as he has been glaring at Anthony but Anthony wasn't lowering his head to the guests. Instead, he was looking them straight in the eyes. Angry at Anthony, the manager wanted to address the topic but couldn't in their presence so he would have to remain quiet about it until they leave. However, what he didn't expect was that both VIPs didn't seem bothered about Anthony not acting overly subservient around them. They were even more accepting of him than the manager had calculated, especially from the man on the left. "So how did you get so skilled in cards kid? You also gamble a lot?" Asked the VIP on the left,
'The features, the resemblance, it's all so uncanny' Even in the intensity of the reproach, a conflicting thought lingered in Franklin's mind as he stared at Anthony. Anthony's face didn't undergo any negative changes after being accused, he remained as unfazed and stoic as ever "What are you talking about Sir, cheating in what game?" "Don't play dumb with me kid, the others may have been too distracted to notice but I had my eyes on you the entire time and I know sleight of hand when I see it. Nothing can escape these trained eyes of mine" Franklin said. "Okay sir, sounds like you're talking about a magic show you must have gone to. Sleight of hand? How does that have anything to do with me, a simple part-timer?" Anthony scrunched his eyebrows, tilting his head to the left. "Why you!" Franklin exclaimed, smacking his tongue afterward. 'Who is this kid? He couldn't be him could he?' Franklin's glare became even more intense and with that, it was evident that he wasn't going to bac
["Hello? Who is this?"] Finally, after three attempts his call was answered. "This is Anthony, Mr's Faller. I was just calling to see how Samuel was doing" he sat in the bed with his shoes off but still had his casino dealer outfit on. ["Umm, he's fine. It's already way past his bedtime so he should be in bed sleeping. Is anything the matter?"] After hearing this, Anthony second-guessed himself on if Samuel was okay or not. Anthony thought that he might just be worrying for nothing. "It's nothing, I just wanted to call since it's been a while since I last did, that's all" he smiled ["It has been a minute since you called but honestly I can't blame you, not when you and my husband have something so serious like Ama— Oh, sorry I mentioned that"] she covered her mouth. Anthony chuckled as a way to lighten the mood "You don't have to be ma, I also know how this has shaken your family so don't hold yourself on my account. I'll be just fine" he smiled ["I'm glad to hear that and you m
Chaos ran wild as many of the patients in the main entrance of The Meteor Garden hospital scattered for either their safety or as a knee-jerk response to Anthony and Franklin. Some were patients with high sensitivity like epilepsy, autism, or Tourette so the sudden act of violence was enough to trigger them. Being among the few staff there and a proactive one at that, the nurse behind the counter hurriedly grabbed the landline and put out a call. "Can we get some medics over here in the main area, right now?! We need as much help as possible with handling the patients and also to put a stop to a visitor who's gone crazy!" she yelled into the mouthpiece then slammed the landline back on itself. The nurses were able to get to the more mentally balanced patients who only fell to the floor while trying to move away from Anthony and Franklin. As for those currently going crazy, they needed more serious help from the paramedics who were able-bodied enough to appropriately handle the sit
The paramedic who had the syringe in his hand paused, jaw dropped, leaning back and filled with utter confusion. Anthony who was seeing all of this instantly got a look of disgust aimed at Franklin and what he just did. "What the hell is wrong with you? Why would you do that, take away the only thing that’s saving your life right now?!" Anthony asked while he grimaced. He pulled himself away from Franklin and then with the anger still in him but now also mixed with a state of confusion, he pushed a weakened Franklin to the ground. "Just what the hell do you want from me?!" Anthony yelled in an exasperated manner, looking down at Franklin who was holding on to his neck and trying to breathe in as much air as he possibly could. Contrary to being the one who had inflicted pain on everyone else, physically or otherwise, Anthony looked like he was in more agony than anyone else, huffing and trying to find a way to get calm. "Alright you fool, that's enough from you. Just take a look a
"You're the—" Franklin was cut short by Anthony "You're not seriously going to talk to me while you’re like that, groveling like a lost puppy, are you? It's overkill, so just stop!" he frowned. "Huh?" Franklin raised his head in surprise but seeing that Anthony was being serious, he nodded. He said, "As you wish, young master" standing up and so did Anthony. Franklin dusted his knees, carrying on "As I was saying, you Young Master are the long lost, thought to be deceased, real heir to the Midnight family fortune and I'm here to take you back home so that you can reclaim what rightfully belongs to you" Anthony tilted his head to the left, slowly "Midnight? Who and what's that supposed to be and how am I the rightful heir as you say?" He grimaced skeptically. "MIDNIGHT, that's the real name of your family lineage, young master. I know you’re confused but the truth is that you aren't a STAR— No, pardon my blunder because what I just said could have come off wrong and easily misund
("Franklin, I know this isn't much to make up for the heartaches I've caused, but if you'll accept it, let this gift grant you freedom") The unexpected question from Anthony forced a memory to pop into Franklin's head. This was a memory that from the looks on his face, he didn't understand the significance of it either. 'Why am I remembering this now?' He questioned himself before taking in a very deep breath with closed eyes and releasing it in a calm sigh. "Young Master, the truth is I have no idea why you can't read my thoughts either. The best I can do is remember a moment in my past, during my former master’s last moments, he bestowed on me a gift, with words hoping that I obtain freedom. Though I didn't understand what he meant by that at the time, my guess is that's the reason you can't access my mind. I've been freed from another's control" Anthony watched him, thinking to himself 'if what he says is true then does that mean I too can manipulate others’ minds beyond just r
