Nathan didn't know what he was supposed to do. He needed to save all the hostages. One moment of distraction had led to this painful predicament. For once, Nathan wanted to be successful in saving someone's life. He needed to defeat the Beast King and keep his promise to Rosie.
"King, what do you want us to do? I know we embarrassed you pretty badly out there but you're only making it worse by hiding behind a bunch of hostages," taunted Andrew.
The Beast King frowned, "You're just asking me to kill the hostages, aren't you?"
"No, we want to make a deal with you!" Interjected Nathan. "In exchange for letting these people go, you can do whatever you want with me. I'll throw down my life in exchange for theirs!"
Andrew couldn't believe what he had just heard. There was no way that he would allow Nathan to sacrifice himself.
However, on the other hand, the Beast King was quite pleased to hear this. It was the perfect opportunity to make Nathan suffer.
"I have to admit that the satisfaction I'd gain from that would make me explode with pleasure! At first, I was going to kill all these people like I did the last time but I doubt that would break your spirit again. So I'll accept your offer and break you physically instead!"
Andrew was frightened to hear this. He was hoping that Nathan had some sort of plan. This was when Nathan dropped his weapons before whispering something to him.
"Andrew, save the civilians," whispered Nathan.
Andrew had no idea how he would go about doing this. However, before he could even ask how, Nathan began walking towards the Beast King. As Nathan walked, his eyes met with each of the hostages. Each face gleamed with desperation, hoping that he would be able to save them.
Nathan was adamant that he had to save them. He wanted to give a whole new meaning to his title of The Mind Hero. Failure was not an option.
A second later, Nathan stood before the Beast King unarmed. He was surrounded by Demon Beasts just waiting for the order to kill him. This made the Beast King beam with joy.
"Yes!! I'm going to enjoy cutting you to pieces before making my getaway! Your death will leave those friends of yours with a broken spirit that will never heal! Ohhh, the sweet pain they'll suffer..! It's so... It's so... It's so wonderful!! Hahahahahhaaaa!!"
The Beast King then slowly raised his scythe in pain. His shoulders were far too damaged for him to move any faster. Taking advantage of this, Nathan placed his hand behind him before making an OK symbol with his fingers.
Andrew immediately realized that Nathan was giving him a signal to take action. He was uncertain what he needed to do but he knew he had to do something.
"Destruction Art: Destructive Anomaly!"
Andrew knew that by using this Art Style, his body would begin to deteriorate quickly. However, it would give him the needed speed boost to kill at least half the Demon Beasts present before they could harm the hostages.
Following this, Andrew threw Nathan's katana towards him before attacking the Demon Beasts with blinding speed. By this time, the Beast King realized what was happening and prepared to give the Demon Beasts the order to attack.
However, as soon as the Beast King opened his mouth, Nathan slammed his fist underneath his chin, forcing his mouth shut, preventing even a word from escaping.
Nathan had to think quickly before the Beast King recovered. He could kill the Beast King but he knew that wouldn't be enough to get rid of the Demon Beasts. Instead, there was a chance that the Demon Beasts would go wild and slaughter the hostages even without the order. He had to keep the Beast King alive until all the Demon Beasts were eliminated.
"Lightning Art: Fading Strike!"
Realizing that Andrew needed help, Nathan quickly picked up his katana before using Fading Strike. Thunder boomed and lightning arced around his body as he killed every remaining Demon Beast, saving the hostages.
"Kill the damned civilians!!" Shouted the Beast King who had just recovered from Nathan's punch.
To the Beast King's horrifying surprise, all his Demon Beasts had already been killed. Not a single one remained.
"Noo!!!!" He boomed.
Immediately, the civilians took this chance to escape. They rushed through the front door in a panic like an animal stampede.
On the other hand, Nathan and Andrew watched the Beast King with their faces bathed in sweat. They breathed heavily while taunting the Beast King with satisfied smirks.
"Damn it! Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!!!" Screamed the Beast King as he pulled a few strands of hair from his head in frustration. "I refuse to lose!! This is not ending in my defeat!! Ahhhhhhh!!! DEMON ART: DEVIL REBORN AND BEAST ART: MASS SUMMONING!!! ULTIMATE COMBINATION ART: DEVIL SUMMONING!!!"
Suddenly, a massive amount of Dark Spiritual Energy began pouring inside the building. The ground shook like an earthquake and the clouds above boomed with thunder almost as if reacting to the Beast King's Art. Nathan and Andrew didn't know what was happening but it was evident that it was nothing good.
A second later, a giant red deviled beast began to emerge from beneath the floor. It continued to grow until it was unable to even fit inside the building. The building creaked and groaned as it got ready to collapse.
Soon after, the building began breaking apart. Nathan and Andrew could only watch in horror as this happened. No Art Style in their arsenal could combat a disaster of such proportion. To make matters worse, the civilians had just exited the building. They were sure to be crushed by the falling debris if nothing was done.
Meanwhile, the Beast King laughed hysterically as he summoned a smaller Demon Beast with wings. Quickly, he then hopped onto its back before it flew him out of the collapsing building.
"What are you going to do now?" He laughed. "You're as good as dead!! Even if you manage to kill the devil I summoned, it will explode like a bomb due to the massive amounts of Spirit Energy it contains!! You're finished!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!"
Fun Fact: Some Art Styles require a weapon to be used at full power.
Nathan clenched his fist in rage. His back was against the wall and the lives of many people were at stake. He hated to admit it but he only had one option if he wished to save not only the civilians but Andrew as well. If nothing was done then they would all be crushed by the crumbling building. He then took a deep breath and closed his eyes as he made a painful decision."Death, lend me your power!" Shouted Nathan. "I'll accept another letter! Just lend me at least 5%!"Death was very pleased to hear this. Nathan could sense the sinister smile he made from within his graveyard."Very well!" Answered Death from within his mind.Just then, a vast amount of Death Energy engulfed Nathan's body. Black lightning sparked and thunder boomed. The air around him became filled with the presence of death. Soon after, his right eye burnt with cold black flames and a darkened wing emerged from his back. His transformation was complete.Following this, a
The heinous images of the destruction of Conscience City crashed into Sindy's mind. A beautiful city where she had once wished to spend a romantic date with Nathan was now nothing more than his grave. The pain rattled her like an aftershock. If given the choice, she would have surely chosen any other form of physical pain over the emotional trauma that now haunted herSindy laid in her bed covered with red blankets, Nathan's favorite color. Her eyes were painted pink from the excessive crying that they had been through over the past two days. She had cried so much that she was surprised her eyes weren't bleeding. They stung as if acid had fallen into them."You never keep your promises..." She muttered softly to herself.Suddenly, a knock came echoing through her room door. Naturally, due to how she was feeling, she did not answer."Sindy, it's Andrew... Let me in..."The silence continued. Sindy still refused to respond. In a sense, she reminded A
Arc 2: RevivalNathan found himself watching his life like a movie. His memories played one by one like an old cassette to its player. From the time he was a baby being held in his mother's gentle arms, to the times when he met Sindy and Andrew. The happiest moments of his life played out peacefully, filling him with a strong sense of nostalgia. Nathan wished for the feeling to last forever. He wanted the sweet moments of bliss to stick to him like glue. Sadly, that all changed as soon as the memories of his father, James Styles, entered his conscience. He was the man who had abused his family for countless years. This was the hidden part of Nathan's past that he had never shared with anyone apart from Sindy. The belt, the whips, the stones, the hammers, and the knife threats all poured into his mind. They corrupted his peaceful memories like a deadly poison and like a flood, they drowned his thoughts;"Nathan, you should know better than to disobey your father," said James in a calm
Nathan's memories continued to pour into his mind like rain. He was happily reliving the memories of his past without his evil father coming across his conscience. This was when he stumbled upon his memories of the Mind World. However, something was strange. His memories were beginning to fade as if they had never happened in the first place. For some reason, he was losing his memories. His memories of Sindy and Andrew were the first to go followed by some of the experiences he had gained at AA.Loneliness soon began to cripple Nathan's soul. He could feel his existence quickly fading. A teardrop then fell from his eye and hit the dark floor beneath him that somehow changed into a dark lake upon impact.Nathan then fell into the lake beneath him with a splash before he began to sink. He flailed his arms and feet wildly as he tried to escape but it was to no avail. However, just before he could drown, his eyes were flung open to see a beautiful white light hovering above the lake.Desp
Nathan's eyes slowly opened to a light-brown oak wood ceiling. The scent of garlic rice, hot peppers, and baked chicken stabbed him in his nostrils. His stomach growled and his body felt a bit weak. He then slowly sat up only to realize he was on a small bed in a dimly lit wooded building."Where am I?" He groaned.Nathan couldn't recall what had happened to him. It was as if parts of his life were missing from his memories. He had a mild headache and his thoughts were fuzzy. He remembered basic information like his name and how he had gotten to the Mind World but that was all.Carefully, he then slid from the bed onto his feet. The floor was cold and smooth underneath his bare feet. However, he had some difficulty keeping his balance almost as if he had never learned to walk."You're awake!" Suddenly squealed a sweet voice.Nathan then fixed his gaze to get a clear image of the person before him. It was a girl that looked around 16 years. She had lush orange-brownish hair and curious
A 16-year-old boy with short orange-brownish hair and lavender-colored eyes had appeared before Nathan and Ava. He looked a lot like Ava, almost as if they were twins."Evan, it's fine! He doesn't remember anything since he woke up. I've been with him the entire time and he hasn't done anything to harm me!" Comforted Ava."Who's he?" Asked Nathan curiously."He's my twin brother, Evan. He can be a little overprotective though so try not to mind him too much!"Evan stared at Nathan as if he was some kind of undercover criminal."I don't trust you despite what my sister says. If you try anything funny, you'll regret it!""Evan, enough... Give our guest a break," said another unfamiliar voice.Nathan looked up to see that the voice belonged to an old man. He had cool salt and pepper hair tied back into a small bun. The lower part of his face was covered with a neat mustache that dangled an inch from his face and a long neatly shaved beard hung from his chin. His face had a few wrinkles b
Nathan strolled through the small village of Youkatai Mountain as he headed towards Master Rikugan's home. As he walked, he observed the unique aesthetics of the area around him. Most of the terrain was slightly uneven and the buildings had an ancient design. The air was also quite cool as one would expect at the top of a mountain. Birds could be heard chirping all around which mixed in with the heavy chatter of nearby residents. It was relatively peaceful."So, Nathy!" Began Ava who was leading him to Master Rikugan's home. "You said you remember basic information about yourself, right? Do you mind telling me when you were born?""Sure, it's the 1st of July."Ava's eyes sparkled to life, "Wow, what a coincidence! I was born on the 2nd of July! That's just one day after you! And that also means we're both Cancers!""Oh, you're right... That is a coincidence.""I know right..? I'm starting to think what grandpa said is true. Maybe the gods sent you here for a reason.""Yeah... I think
Master Rikugan had been teaching Nathan about the fundamentals of Zen for the past two hours. However, they had finally decided to take a break as they allowed themselves to relax on the wooden floor."That was exhausting and it was only theory," sighed Nathan."Yes, Zen is quite difficult to grasp," replied Rikugan. "I think I even forgot the reason I invited you into my home in the first place. We still need to find a way to restore your memories!"Nathan scratched his head as he pondered."Well, earlier when you mentioned the Lady Of The Lake, my head started hurting. I felt like she influenced me to be here somehow...""Lady Vivienne? We did find you unconscious on a shrine dedicated to her so there's a possibility.""So what are we going to do then..?""Well, I can't say for sure but I believe your memories hold the key to what it is that you must do. I believe that the gods had more than one reason to send you here. If it were to simply regain your memories then they would have
