After leaving Headquarters, the four assassins had set out to start their mission. They were now flying in a jet, patiently waiting for their arrival in Central Town. Fortunately, the jet was on autopilot which meant that the assassins had some time to relax.
Sadly, relaxation was nowhere to be found. The tension between Sindy and Isabella was almost unbearable. It was now painfully evident that they thoroughly disliked one another.
Nathan had no choice but to watch the two closely just in case they started fighting again. Sadly, Andrew was alone at the back, fast asleep. This meant that if anything were to happen, Nathan would have to deal with it alone.
However, in truth, Andrew was upset. Despite how much Alondo had praised them for their efforts, he still felt useless. In both his previous missions, he had failed to defeat his enemies. Due to this, those around him had gotten hurt. This made him incredibly upset. He was only resting to get his mind off these things.
On the other hand, Nathan sat patiently looking through a small window. He still couldn't understand how Isabella was able to speak to him so casually despite what had happened between them.
"Izzy..." He called gently.
"Nathypoo?" She quickly replied with a smile.
"Could you come over here for a bit? I need to talk to you..."
Jealousy shredded the face of Sindy who was watching quietly. She hated how Isabella was continually getting closer to Nathan despite not knowing him for long.
"Is it so important that you have to speak to her in private..?" Asked Sindy in frustration.
"No... It's not like that... I just need to talk to her about something..."
Despite not agreeing with Nathan, Sindy decided to respect his decision. It did however trouble her quite a bit. Nathan had never once felt the need to keep anything hidden from her since they were children. So why was it that he now felt the need to hide something from her?
On the other hand, Isabella took a seat beside Nathan excitedly.
"Soo... What did you want to talk to me about, Nathypoo?"
"I'm just kinda curious why you're not upset with me after what happened between us..."
Isabella then placed her finger against her chin as she pondered.
"I don't know honestly. At first, I was stunned that I was rejected! Guys have always tried to get with me but none of them seemed worthy enough. But as soon as I saw you, I somehow felt like you were worthy. So I was left in disbelief when you rejected me. But then I figured that maybe you were just playing hard to get!"Nathan could hardly believe his ears. Did Isabella truly believe he was playing hard to get?
"Why would you think that? I meant what I said, Izzy."
"Hmm... Love... Marriage... So does that mean if I get you to fall in love with me and marry me then you'll finally accept me?"
Nathan facepalmed. This was the most awkward conversation that he had ever experienced.
"No! You have to be in love with me too. It's not a one-sided thing!."
"But I do think I'm in love with you, Nathypoo... You seem different from every other guy I've met so far! And whenever you're around, my heart beats faster and my skin tingles just a little bit!"
Nathan was stunned by Isabella's remark. She was very straightforward when it came to how she felt. She didn't try to cut corners or beat around the bush. She always went in for the kill, confident that she would attain her prey. However, Nathan knew it was more than that. He could tell that Isabella had narcissistic tendencies which weren't good traits to have.
"You know..." Continued Isabella. "...when you compared me to a pig, I felt upset! But after thinking about it, I somehow began to feel better. I realized that you were right! Why should I give my first time to just anyone? I should be with someone who loves me first! But I believe that you should be that person, Nathypoo! So, I'll do my best to earn your heart!"
Nathan was speechless. Isabella was the first girl he had ever heard acknowledge her feelings for him. However, despite this, he had already decided that he wouldn't date a narcissist.
"Hey, Izzy... Why are you like this..?" He asked calmly.
"Like what?"
"You never seem to hold yourself back... You always get to the point while wearing this innocent smile. Sometimes, it almost seems as if you're forcing yourself to be that way..."
Upon hearing Nathan's words, Isabella froze before her sweet smile disappeared from her lips. Nathan almost flinched upon seeing her reaction. The look across her face was a familiar one that brought back bad memories.
This look was one that he had seen many times on the face of his little sister, Liz. It was a look that was implanted on her face by their devilish father, James Styles. It was a look that was filled with terror, hatred, sadness, and anger. But why was this same look present on Isabella's face?
"Izzy..?" Called Nathan softly.
"Oh, my bad, Nathypoo!" She quickly responded with a smile. "I spaced out for a little bit!"
"Are you okay..?"
"I'm perfect! Hmmm... Let me know when you've fallen in love with me! I'll work hard to win your heart until then, okay?"
Before Nathan could even respond, Isabella got up before promptly returning to her original seat with a sweet smile. However, it was now difficult for Nathan to tell if her smile was genuine. She hadn't even answered his original question. However, he decided not to pursue it. There had to be a reason why Isabella had decided to keep quiet about it.
A few hours later, they were finally flying over Conscience City. The city was vast with many futuristic-type buildings. The streets were lined with cars and other never-before-seen vehicles with beautiful aesthetics.
This came as a surprise to everyone except Isabella. The Mind World was constantly battling Demon Beasts so how had a city like this come about under such conditions? There wasn't even a hint of distress. Instead, the city was filled with peace and joy. In some ways, it looked even better than many places in the Real World.
"Hey, Isabella," began Andrew who was now awake. "Aren't people from the Mind World supposed to be suffering?! So why are they living such a lavish life down there?!!"
"Well, that's because it's a major city!"
"A major city? I heard Alondo say something about this place being a major city but what does that have to do with anything?" Asked Sindy.
"Cities like this one are surrounded by an invisible barrier that's meant to keep out Demon Beasts! But only the rich and those in power can afford to live here. The city is under constant surveillance by powerful heroes too. The people here have nothing to worry about!"
"Only the rich, huh..?" Murmured Nathan.
"Mhmm!"
Isabella hadn't explained it to them in detail but they understood what she was trying to say. The wealthy were allowed to live safe lives within major cities while the poor were forced to fend for their lives elsewhere. It was a cruel reality. Sadly, none of them had time to think about such things.
A few minutes later, Central Town had finally come into view. The damage was very evident even from above. Stores had been vandalized, buildings had taken significant damage, and small flames were set ablaze in certain areas. It reminded Nathan of the village they had gone to on their first mission. Just with a lot more damage.
"Okay, everyone! We're finally here!" Declared Isabella with a playful twirl. "We don't know if these are just regular bandits so we should stick together when we exit the jet! That's all until we get some more information on who these guys are!"
Suddenly, the jet shook violently as if it had crashed into something. This almost resulted in the assassins crashing into one another. However, this was strange. The autopilot system was designed to avoid crashing into objects. So what could have caused the crash?
"What the hell was that?!" Panicked Andrew.
"I see... It seems that we've hit some type of barrier. No wonder no one's been able to get in or out of this town!" Explained Isabella.
"So what do we do?" Asked Sindy reluctantly.
"Hmm, we'll have to proceed on foot... I should be able to break this barrier if I'm able to touch it!"
Fun Fact: In the fight between Andrew and Sindy, Andrew could have used his Destruction Art to win the fight but he didn't wish to kill her.
After exiting the jet, the four assassins made their way towards the barrier. By this time, the sun had already begun to set and a cold chill was present in the air. There were damaged street signs, buildings, cars, and even broken bits of glass that crunched underneath their feet as they walked. In short, the area looked as if it was in the dawn of a zombie apocalypse. A few seconds later, the assassins arrived at the foot of the barrier. However, this was when they noticed something strange. The barrier was oozing with a strange purple aura. "Dang, this thing's huge!" Exclaimed Andrew as he reached out to touch it. "Wait, don't touch it!" Quickly warned Isabella. "Huh? Why?!" Before responding, Isabella moved closer to inspect the barrier. Following this, she withdrew two Tessen Fans (Japanese War Fans) from her waist. The fans were black with the patterns of electrical dragons on either side. The edges were also quite sharp as if it was mad
Nathan, Sindy, and Andrew had been forced into hiding behind a small building. There were simply too many enemies to fight. After Isabella had left to fight Scorpio, the Scorpion mercenaries had began a relentless attack. They attacked using their Art Styles, guns, grenades, and a few other weapons. If the assassins weren't careful, they would easily be killed. However, Andrew was determined to do whatever it took to complete the mission. He was frustrated with how terrible things had gone for him up until now. It was time for things to change. It was time for him to step up and prove his worth. He had enough. Suddenly, a grenade was tossed behind the building toward the three assassins. The Scorpion mercenaries had finally found their hiding spot. Sindy couldn't help but scream in fright upon seeing the grenade. It could explode at any moment, surely injuring them in the process. Nathan also panicked as he tried to get Sindy and Andrew to take cover. However
Shortly after the three assassins had defeated the Scorpion mercenaries, they turned their attention towards Isabella. However, to their surprise, Isabella had already defeated her opponents. Both bodyguards were left dead at her feet and the leader, Scorpio was down on his knees, bleeding from his head. "Izzy!" Called Nathan as he ran towards her. "Oh, hi, Nathypoo!" She replied sweetly. "What are you doing? Shouldn't you finish that guy off already?" "Yeah, but I was thinking that it might be a good idea to take him back to headquarters! He might have some intel on what the Cliques are after!" "Uh— then shouldn't you tie him up or something..?" Interjected Sindy. "Well, I would but I didn't come on this mission expecting to restrain anyone... So I don't have any equipment to do that..." "Then knock him out..?" "I'm not a blonde! I was planning on doing that but I was asking him some questions first!" Sindy the
Isabella fell face first in a pool of blood. As if to complement the horrific scene, the wind blew gently and the fires around them danced to the rhythm of her dying heartbeat. Finally, her hair was released from its bun, causing it to flow gently in the wind as it was stained by a few droplets of blood, turning its snow-white color to red.As if to keep his promise, Scorpio released Nathan before pushing him forward towards Isabella's body. Drowning in sorrow, Nathan ran towards her. However, he stumbled and fell before he could even get close. Slowly, he then stretched forth his hands towards her body not knowing what else to do. The pain he felt was unbearable."I kept my word," began Scorpio. "I didn't kill you. She can rest in peace knowing that I didn't harm you."Nathan was drowning in despair. Once again, he had failed to save anyone. The only thing that he had accomplished was slaughtering his enemies like a mad man. He felt undeserving of t
Sindy and Andrew were barely alive. It would only take a few more minutes for them to succumb to their injuries. Unfortunately, Andrew had already passed out from too much blood loss. However, Sindy was still barely conscious. Due to this, she had witnessed the horrific scene of Scorpio puncturing Nathan's stomach. Sadly, she was too weak to even stand.Nathan was now left unconscious in the dirt as Scorpio had left him to die. However, Sindy refused to let this happen. Despite being in danger of losing consciousness at any moment, Sindy gathered her remaining strength. Nathan was far too important for her to leave him to die. She had to at least heal him before she succumbed to her injuries.Utilizing her remaining strength, Sindy dug her fingers into the ground and pulled herself closer to Nathan. She groaned in discomfort as she did her best to endure the pain she felt. It felt as if someone was trying to rip her chest open."I can't let you die..!" Sh
After the deal had been made, the graveyard began to disappear in an abundance of black and white flashes. Slowly, Nathan then opened his eyes to find himself sprawled out on the ground. However, he also noticed that his appearance had changed significantly. He had a single dark flaming wing growing from his back, dark flaming eyes, and sharp black fingernails. It was as if he had turned into a mixture of both human and angel.Nathan was amazed that this was only 3% of Death's power. He could feel enormous amounts of Death Energy pulsating through his body. He had never felt such power in all his life. He was sure that with his current strength, he would be able to give even a Clique commander a run for their money."Hey, brat!" Suddenly called Death's voice from within him. "Be careful with how you use my power. It is not the strength of my power that you should be afraid of but the abundance of Spiritual Energy that it releases. With such a feeble body,
It had now been a total of three days since the mission to defeat the Scorpions had come to an end. Nathan had defeated Scorpio and saved his friends with the aid of Death's power. Unfortunately, this did not come without a cost. Nathan's right arm now had the letters DE engraved onto it. He was only one letter away from reaching the halfway point of the progress meter. Nathan sat quietly in his room as he pondered. He felt empty and confused. He had realized that his dream of becoming a hero was only a childish delusion. It had even become evident that his title of the Mind Hero was nothing more than a meaningless name. He was nothing more than an average teenager who had a difficult choice to make. Would he help to save the Mind World or the Real World? He couldn't see a way to save both. The Real World was the sole reason why the people of the Mind World were suffering. They were always at constant war with Demon Beasts and their only option was to destroy
SOMEWHERE FAR AWAY IN THE MIND WORLD SHROUDED IN DARKNESS...A lonely castle stood shrouded in the thickness of darkness. Inside, the flames of small candles flickered and the doors creaked from the ominous wind that teased them. The air was chilling cold and a strong sense of danger was lurking around every corner.Hollowed footsteps dared to march down a lonely hallway that led to a throne. On this throne sat an anonymous figure as its ruler. His bitter brown eyes radiated with so much evil intent that even the darkness chose to avoid his gaze.Promptly, the footsteps then came to a halt. Before the throne now stood a teenage girl with a dark-blue katana strapped by her side complemented by a red dragon tattoo located underneath her left eye. Quickly, she then kneeled before the throne with respect drawn from fear."Aria," calmly began the figure on the throne with a voice as smooth as butter. "...what news do you bring?""Lord JS!" She ans
