It wasn't much but Nathan had done his best to prepare for the upcoming mission. If he and his friends were able to complete this mission successfully then Alondo would allow them to join Team Assassin. They had to succeed.
Calmly, Nathan equipped his black uniform and sheathed his sword across his back. It had been a total of two days since Alondo had told them to prepare for the mission. It was finally time for it to get underway.
Finally, before he left his room, Nathan equipped a pair of dark gloves over his hands which covered the mysterious letter D that still refused to go away.
A few minutes later, Nathan arrived at the Transport Bay to await mission orders. Waiting for him there were Sindy, Andrew, and Alondo. However, Nathan found himself slightly confused upon seeing this. He already knew that Alondo would not be taking part in the mission, so who was their team captain?
"Alondo, where is Instructor Brady..?" Asked Nathan.
"Ah, Nathan, you're here!" Exclaimed Alondo. "And Brady is on probation, remember? He was only allowed to participate in the last mission because we were short on assassins. He won't be joining you for this one."
A wave of disappointment then quickly came over the three friends. They couldn't quite understand why Instructor Brady was being punished. It seemed quite unfair that he was still on probation.
"Alondo, I understand that the Instructor failed in his duty to protect us on the first mission but I think it's a little harsh to keep him on probation... He had his hands full with a powerful enemy when we were attacked! It's not fair..!" Argued Sindy.
"Yeah! Justice for Brady!" Supported Andrew.
Despite Sindy's words, Alondo refused to listen. He had already made up his mind and he was not about to change it. Instead, a serious look made itself known in his eyes before he replied.
"I know that it seems harsh but things should be much worse for Brady. I know you don't understand my reason for doing this but I know what I'm doing. Trust me."
"I see..." Sighed Nathan. "I guess you'd know more than us since you're the leader of such a huge organization..."
Andrew and Sindy also nodded in approval. Though they didn't understand what Alondo was hinting at, they decided to accept his request and trust him.
Just then, the sound of heavy footsteps interrupted their conversation. They turned around in astonishment to see Instructor Brady approaching them. He had his usual cigar braced against his lips and sunglasses covering his eyes. He wore a blue floral shirt, black shorts, and blue sandals. It almost seemed as if he was preparing to go on a beach trip.
"Instructor Brady! So you are coming on the mission after all!" Suddenly Squealed Andrew before hugging him awkwardly.
The Instructor then grabbed Andrew by his head before shoving him away.
"No, you twit! I'm just here to see you off on the mission. Besides, you have someone even stronger than me accommodating you this time."This confused the three friends. They weren't aware of many individuals in AA who were stronger than the Instructor.
"Wait, who?" Queried Sindy.
Alondo then calmly pointed over to a figure who was slowly approaching them. The figure had snow-white hair which was tied back in a bun, beautiful scarlet red eyes, and was dressed in a body-fit black female combat suit and tall black high-heeled boots. To everyone's surprise, it was none other than Isabella.
"Izzy..." Muttered Nathan to himself.
"Wait, Isabella was stronger than the Instructor!?" Exclaimed Andrew.
"Of course! She is the #4 ranked assassin in the entire organization. She's in the SS-Class while Instructor Brady is only in the SA-Class," explained Alondo.
"Why her though?!" Complained Sindy quietly. "I'm sure there were a lot more options to choose from! Doesn't she have some super hard mission to do or something..?"
Isabella then gave a sarcastic frown as she walked over to Nathan.
"I wonder what makes Sindy hate me so much, Nathypoo. I did nothing to her..."As if to annoy Sindy even more, Isabella then latched herself around Nathan's arm affectionately.
"How did you even hear me..? I'm beginning to really hate your personality..." Replied Sindy.
"Why? I am only trying to claim that which is mine. It has nothing to do with you! Sigh, I always heard that blondes were stupid but I never believed it until I met you..."
"Hey, that's hurtful!" Shouted Andrew taking offense.
Sindy then marched over to Alondo. She refused to go on a mission with Isabella.
"Alondo, with all due respect, I do not want to go on a mission with Snow White's evil grandma!"
Upon hearing Sindy's words, Isabella closed her eyes before giving a malignant smile. It was quite evident that she had taken offense.
"Grandma? Who are you calling a grandma? Do you have a death wish?"
"Who were you calling stupid then?!"
"Andrew, go grab us some popcorn! I haven't seen drama this good in ages!" Laughed Instructor Brady in amusement.
"No way, sir! I don't want to miss a second of this!"
On the other hand, Nathan could only watch in bewilderment. Sindy and Isabella seemed as if they were about to get into a fight. Nathan didn't know what he was supposed to do.
"I swear!" Suddenly shouted Alondo. "...If you two start fighting, you'll be eating rocks for breakfast for the next week! LITERALLY!"
Almost immediately, both Isabella and Sindy turned away from one another with a bright smile across their faces. The last thing either of them wanted was to make Alondo upset.
"Now, everyone quiet!" He continued. "I don't want to hear another peep! Sometimes, being an assassin requires you to work with those you don't like. This is an experience that all of you can learn from. The team is final with Nathan, Andrew, Sindy, and Isabella. Am I clear?"
Everyone then quickly nodded in acceptance of Alondo's orders before he continued.
"The mission is simple. It's an A-Classed mission which shouldn't be too difficult since you have Isabella with you. A report came in that a small town called Central Town has been taken over by a team of bandits. The town is located just east of a major city called Conscience City. Your mission is to infiltrate Central Town and get rid of the bandits using any methods deemed necessary. Any questions?"
"Hmm... A team of bandits? That sounds like a BD-Classed mission at most," interjected Isabella.
"Well, the thing is that for some reason, no one has been able to get in or out of the town ever since the bandits captured it. To make it worse, the bandits refuse to leave the town."
"Then, if they're just mere bandits, why don't the police deal with it? Or does the Mind World not have police?"
"Well, we do. But the report says that the bandits have overwhelmed the town's police force. Due to this, they request that a team of powerful heroes is- sent in."
"Heroes..?" Asked Andrew.
"Yes, you may not be aware of this but AA is the only hero organization that doesn't utilize the title of Hero in its name. However, all agencies that fight against Demon Beasts and corrupt organizations are all referred to as hero organizations including AA. So don't be surprised if a civilian refers to you as a hero. You may be called assassins here but society refers to you as heroes."
"Is there a reason why AA's heroes are referred to as assassins then?" Asked Sindy.
"Yes, but that's a long story that I can't get into right now. Any other questions?"
The assassins then shook their head in denial. The only thing that was left for them to do was to complete their mission.
"Alright," continued Alondo. "It took me three days to get this mission approved for AA. So you should know that it's been a while since the complaint was sent. You should head out immediately. Isabella, you're the most experienced, so you're team captain. Also, the town's pretty far away so you should get there just before sunset if you leave now. Good luck! I'm counting on the four of you."
Fun Fact: Nathan and Sindy were friends before Andrew met.
After leaving Headquarters, the four assassins had set out to start their mission. They were now flying in a jet, patiently waiting for their arrival in Central Town. Fortunately, the jet was on autopilot which meant that the assassins had some time to relax. Sadly, relaxation was nowhere to be found. The tension between Sindy and Isabella was almost unbearable. It was now painfully evident that they thoroughly disliked one another. Nathan had no choice but to watch the two closely just in case they started fighting again. Sadly, Andrew was alone at the back, fast asleep. This meant that if anything were to happen, Nathan would have to deal with it alone. However, in truth, Andrew was upset. Despite how much Alondo had praised them for their efforts, he still felt useless. In both his previous missions, he had failed to defeat his enemies. Due to this, those around him had gotten hurt. This made him incredibly upset. He was only resting to get his mind off th
After exiting the jet, the four assassins made their way towards the barrier. By this time, the sun had already begun to set and a cold chill was present in the air. There were damaged street signs, buildings, cars, and even broken bits of glass that crunched underneath their feet as they walked. In short, the area looked as if it was in the dawn of a zombie apocalypse. A few seconds later, the assassins arrived at the foot of the barrier. However, this was when they noticed something strange. The barrier was oozing with a strange purple aura. "Dang, this thing's huge!" Exclaimed Andrew as he reached out to touch it. "Wait, don't touch it!" Quickly warned Isabella. "Huh? Why?!" Before responding, Isabella moved closer to inspect the barrier. Following this, she withdrew two Tessen Fans (Japanese War Fans) from her waist. The fans were black with the patterns of electrical dragons on either side. The edges were also quite sharp as if it was mad
Nathan, Sindy, and Andrew had been forced into hiding behind a small building. There were simply too many enemies to fight. After Isabella had left to fight Scorpio, the Scorpion mercenaries had began a relentless attack. They attacked using their Art Styles, guns, grenades, and a few other weapons. If the assassins weren't careful, they would easily be killed. However, Andrew was determined to do whatever it took to complete the mission. He was frustrated with how terrible things had gone for him up until now. It was time for things to change. It was time for him to step up and prove his worth. He had enough. Suddenly, a grenade was tossed behind the building toward the three assassins. The Scorpion mercenaries had finally found their hiding spot. Sindy couldn't help but scream in fright upon seeing the grenade. It could explode at any moment, surely injuring them in the process. Nathan also panicked as he tried to get Sindy and Andrew to take cover. However
Shortly after the three assassins had defeated the Scorpion mercenaries, they turned their attention towards Isabella. However, to their surprise, Isabella had already defeated her opponents. Both bodyguards were left dead at her feet and the leader, Scorpio was down on his knees, bleeding from his head. "Izzy!" Called Nathan as he ran towards her. "Oh, hi, Nathypoo!" She replied sweetly. "What are you doing? Shouldn't you finish that guy off already?" "Yeah, but I was thinking that it might be a good idea to take him back to headquarters! He might have some intel on what the Cliques are after!" "Uh— then shouldn't you tie him up or something..?" Interjected Sindy. "Well, I would but I didn't come on this mission expecting to restrain anyone... So I don't have any equipment to do that..." "Then knock him out..?" "I'm not a blonde! I was planning on doing that but I was asking him some questions first!" Sindy the
Isabella fell face first in a pool of blood. As if to complement the horrific scene, the wind blew gently and the fires around them danced to the rhythm of her dying heartbeat. Finally, her hair was released from its bun, causing it to flow gently in the wind as it was stained by a few droplets of blood, turning its snow-white color to red.As if to keep his promise, Scorpio released Nathan before pushing him forward towards Isabella's body. Drowning in sorrow, Nathan ran towards her. However, he stumbled and fell before he could even get close. Slowly, he then stretched forth his hands towards her body not knowing what else to do. The pain he felt was unbearable."I kept my word," began Scorpio. "I didn't kill you. She can rest in peace knowing that I didn't harm you."Nathan was drowning in despair. Once again, he had failed to save anyone. The only thing that he had accomplished was slaughtering his enemies like a mad man. He felt undeserving of t
Sindy and Andrew were barely alive. It would only take a few more minutes for them to succumb to their injuries. Unfortunately, Andrew had already passed out from too much blood loss. However, Sindy was still barely conscious. Due to this, she had witnessed the horrific scene of Scorpio puncturing Nathan's stomach. Sadly, she was too weak to even stand.Nathan was now left unconscious in the dirt as Scorpio had left him to die. However, Sindy refused to let this happen. Despite being in danger of losing consciousness at any moment, Sindy gathered her remaining strength. Nathan was far too important for her to leave him to die. She had to at least heal him before she succumbed to her injuries.Utilizing her remaining strength, Sindy dug her fingers into the ground and pulled herself closer to Nathan. She groaned in discomfort as she did her best to endure the pain she felt. It felt as if someone was trying to rip her chest open."I can't let you die..!" Sh
After the deal had been made, the graveyard began to disappear in an abundance of black and white flashes. Slowly, Nathan then opened his eyes to find himself sprawled out on the ground. However, he also noticed that his appearance had changed significantly. He had a single dark flaming wing growing from his back, dark flaming eyes, and sharp black fingernails. It was as if he had turned into a mixture of both human and angel.Nathan was amazed that this was only 3% of Death's power. He could feel enormous amounts of Death Energy pulsating through his body. He had never felt such power in all his life. He was sure that with his current strength, he would be able to give even a Clique commander a run for their money."Hey, brat!" Suddenly called Death's voice from within him. "Be careful with how you use my power. It is not the strength of my power that you should be afraid of but the abundance of Spiritual Energy that it releases. With such a feeble body,
It had now been a total of three days since the mission to defeat the Scorpions had come to an end. Nathan had defeated Scorpio and saved his friends with the aid of Death's power. Unfortunately, this did not come without a cost. Nathan's right arm now had the letters DE engraved onto it. He was only one letter away from reaching the halfway point of the progress meter. Nathan sat quietly in his room as he pondered. He felt empty and confused. He had realized that his dream of becoming a hero was only a childish delusion. It had even become evident that his title of the Mind Hero was nothing more than a meaningless name. He was nothing more than an average teenager who had a difficult choice to make. Would he help to save the Mind World or the Real World? He couldn't see a way to save both. The Real World was the sole reason why the people of the Mind World were suffering. They were always at constant war with Demon Beasts and their only option was to destroy
