7. Saving a Girl

Bruk! Bruk!

His fist hit one of the street thugs and he fell. What Brian did surprised them. One by one they started to attack but Brian had the upper hand, he kicked, threw punches, and even slammed the big bodies of the thugs and they fell in an instant.

Brian trains in self-defense and takes advantage when the men are off guard. But that only knocked them out, it didn't make them faint at all. There was no time left, Brian grabbed the girl's hand and ran from there and two thugs got up to chase him.

Brian took advantage of that little time. He realized that thugs like them wouldn't be easily defeated, that's why he just knocked them out and then took the girl to escape.

“That way. Chase them!” One of the thugs shouted in a loud voice.

Brian continued to run while pulling the girl's hand who kept looking behind her in fear. Brian then changed his running direction, turned, and continued to pull the girl. There was a small alley, Brian brought the girl closer to him. They caught their breath, but the girl's voice was still scared, so Brian had to cover her mouth while his eyes watched.

The alley was small, two bodies were pressed against the wall, and there was no distance between them, tightly pressed against each other.

“Shut up. They're coming," Brian whispered to the girl who was shifting uncomfortably.

Hearing the commanding tone of voice, the girl obeyed Brian who was still watching her surroundings.

“Damn! Where do they go? Come on, hurry up and find that girl again!” The thugs who were chasing them gathered near the alley and then scattered to search.

After a few moments, Brian checked his surroundings and took a deep breath.

"Congratulations," he breathed then his eyes moved down to where she was looking at his face.

Realizing his , Brian removed his hand from the girl's mouth and immediately left the alley. He glanced right and left to make sure there was no one. That street is often quiet whether morning, afternoon- or even night, it's always the same because there are a bunch of thugs hanging out there, that's why people are reluctant to go down that street, only stupid people walk there, like Brian earlier.

"Thank you, sir," said the girl. Brian turned her head and found him hunched over.

“Oh No problem," replied Brian.

“I thought you wouldn't save you Earlier I had given up, but it turns out that you still has a heart too," her said clearly sarcastically.

"I saved you, you're still sarcastic," replied Brian, looking away.

Brian walked to his left to get the items he had saved so he could come back and beat up the thugs to save the girl from danger. In the end, it was his body that acted.

Putting his backpack back on, Brian saw the girl following him. He frowned in confusion.

"Why are you following me?" he asked.

“I didn't have a goal, so I followed you. But you don't seem to have a goal either, sir?” The girl glanced at the suitcase with the box on it and the backpack and packages.

Brian doesn't care. He pulled up his suitcase and left there but the girl still followed him.

"Go. It's not safe here," he said gently.

"No. "Going far from you is more dangerous," her answered.

“You said I don't have a goal either. Would you mind if  slept on the street?" Brian asked.

The girl was silent for a moment then looked back at him.

"Of course not," his smile widened artificially and Brian chuckled.

Brian looked at the girl, her clothes were dirty and worn, as was the bag that the girl had been holding. The long black hair tied in a ponytail was also dirty, who knows how many days the girl hadn't showered. Brian looked at her even more, the girl's face was beautiful even though it was the same as her clothes, she had a dimple on her right cheek, a pair of thin black eyebrows, and curly eyelashes. Brian was fixated on the girl's pair of light brown irises and her sharp nose. Brian's attention was now focused on her thin, pale lips curled into a smile.

Realizing what he was doing, Brian exhaled and turned back to pull his suitcase with difficulty and the girl was still following him.

“Sir, need help?” offered the girl.

"No need," Brian answered as he walked away but the girl continued to follow.

When they finally reached a fairly busy street, Brian turned around again. He thought the girl would be safe now secured in a crowded place.

"Go. Why are you following me?” Brian asked, a little irritated. “Here you are safe,” he said.

The girl answered Brian who frowned.

“I told you that I have no purpose, sir I'll just follow you," said the girl.

"Follow me?"

"Yes. Who knew you might need a friend.”

"No-" Brian answered firmly and returned to continue somewhere.

Brian's mind is still busy looking for his destination, where will he stop? Finding the house took quite a long time. Brian looked left and right, looking for something. Some kind of real estate or something that markets houses. However, he felt uncomfortable when he felt that the attention of people passing by was on him.

Brian finally glanced behind him where the girl was still following. the impression of people who think the girl is like a stalker, beggar, or something no better than that.

Once again Brian stopped in his tracks- and turned back to face the girl who also stopped and raised her face. Brian exhaled.

“Did you bring a change of clothes or something?” he asked.

However, the girl looked at Brian confused until the man sighed again and said to change his clothes or wash himself so he wouldn't be the center of many people's attention.

"You can come with me if you're better than you look," said Brian finally.

The girl was happy to hear that and asked where the toilet was to change into better clothes. Seeing the girl leave made Brian a little regretful for allowing her to follow him wherever he went now.

“I don't have a choice. Can I just run away?” Brian thought but he couldn't leave the girl because he had promised to let her come with him.

While waiting, Brian's attention was diverted in various directions, who knows what he was looking for. That place is the economic center of Neophi city. People will usually gather there to enjoy themselves by shopping, or just hanging out in cafes, restaurants, and bars. On either side of the main road, there are shops with various merchandise displayed in window cases ranging from clothes, goods, food, accessories, and much more.

People were busy with their business, some didn't care, and some were interested in Brian who was staying where he was with suitcases, boxes, and packages in hand. How could he not notice with his disheveled face that was slightly pale due to a cold?

“Sorry to keep you waiting, sir You kept your promise," said the girl who had just returned.

Brian turned his head and watched him for a moment then coughed softly.

"Good grief. You have to rest," the girl said as if she was worried but Brian brushed it off.

"Let's go," he said and pulled the buyer back.

The girl offered to carry one of the items but Brian refused and continued along the ledge but was stopped again when a strange sound caught his attention again. The girl grinned as Brian watched sharply, her voice sounded very loud.

“Sorry, I'm hungry,” he admitted sheepishly as he stroked the flat layer.

Hearing the word hungry, Brian suddenly became hungry too. He glanced at the clock, apparently, it was time for lunch. Brian just realized that he hadn't had breakfast and last night he only ate bread.

"Come on." Brian looked away after inviting the girl to follow him.

Entering a restaurant that was not too quiet, Brian sat at one of the tables. Very busy with things. The girl followed and sat in front of Brian.

Brian raised his hand to order but the waiter took so long to approach him that he raised his hand several times. Brian realized that the waiters were also scolding him for just his ordinary appearance, in contrast to the other visitors who looked luxurious, glamorous, or even branded.

A waiter approached them reluctantly and took down the order that Brian had mentioned. For a moment the waiter stopped taking notes just to insult Brian's appearance and his order which was considered expensive.

“You have that much money, sir?” whispered the girl when the servant had left.

Brian looked at him. "You don't need to worry and eat as soon as the order comes," he said.

It seemed that the girl doubted this. Brian didn't care and chose to look around the restaurant to assess and remember it. He recorded the name of the restaurant in his brain memory, he had a feeling he would return to this restaurant.

As soon as Brian turned his gaze back to the girl, it turned out that he was looking at the package that Brian had put on the table. What's wrong with that? Compared to Brian, the girl was more curious. What do you think it contains?
