6. Suddenly Rich

But Brian didn't immediately open the package. His attention was focused on the contents of his house. He looked over his belongings, considering which to throw away or not. There are not many things, sofas, shelves and everything else except a small TV are part of the rental house.

Brian went into his room, the contents were the same, he didn't bring much apart from books and clothes. He decided to clean it first, then take a shower, then think about other things like calculating how much he had to spend from the money he put into the account. His feelings were still mixed, between joy and fear. What if after the money is used, someone comes to take it. What he spends will be more.

Brian packed all his books and dirty clothes, put them in the moving boxes he had, only one box and one suitcase of clothes, the rest he would leave at home.

“Tomorrow I have to look for a new house,” he thought under the warm shower.

His body was almost shivering with cold, he was stupid for not taking a shower immediately. Tomorrow maybe Brian will catch a cold after the rain.

After cleaning and showering, Brian looked for food in his refrigerator, there was nothing except two packs of bread and a bottle of mineral water.

"It's okay, that's enough for now, tomorrow we'll be gone from here," he said as if convincing himself to accept what was there. Besides, Brian hadn't thought about shopping at all.

After making sure the money was sent to his uncle, Brian went home. Now he is sitting on the sofa without turning on the TV. Calculating the money he withdrew earlier to pay for everything, house rent, loan sharks, and college, as well as to pay for his uncle's medical expenses. He now entrusts his uncle's life to money, which he believes can give him life. He doesn't care how much money he has to spend so that his uncle can survive until he succeeds in achieving his dream.

Brian fell asleep exhausted after dividing the money according to needs. He thought he would need it for a down payment on a house. Falling asleep as the night wore on, Brian had no idea what was inside the package waiting for him to open. He just kept it on the table near the kitchen. If only Brian had opened it first, would he have considered everything?

Night turned to morning slowly to evening. Before Brian even opened his eyes, there was a knock on the door, then it turned into impatient banging with a woman's voice.

"Open the door!" the woman exclaimed impatiently.

With unsteady steps, Brian opened the door. The woman waited with an angry look.

"What took you so long? Did you just wake up?” His eyes bulged but Brian didn't care.

"I know what I have to do. You don't need to make a fuss like that," Brian commented.

"I don't care. Hurry up and pay the rent and leave,” he said matter-of-factly.

"Wait a moment. I'll get ready," replied Brian, not wanting to face it any longer.

Even though he had just woken up and felt bad, Brian thought he had the flu. He went into the room to get the bags, suitcases and other items that had been packed in boxes. As he was about to leave, Brian looked at the package again and took it beside him.

The woman was surprised to see Brian who was ready to leave.

"This is the rent for four months that I haven't paid, including this month," said Brian, shoving a brown envelope into the woman's hand. "And here are the keys," Brian dropped the house door key onto the envelope then took out the suitcase with the box. "Goodbye. Hopefully we never meet again. Thank you," he said then left.

Just descending the stairs, Brian was confronted by several men with large bodies and fierce faces.

"Even though it's still early," he complained, sighing.

The short, stocky man stood in front of him, Brian looked lazy to face him. Brian coughed, the man avoided him.

“Back off or I'll give you a cold?” he says.

"Fuck!" Despite swearing, the man also backed away.

While keeping the package under his left armpit, Brian took an envelope to give to the loan shark, but before he gave it, Brian held the envelope.

"What do you want?" asked the loan shark

"Give me proof of guarantee, I will give you this money," he said.

"You bastard," cursed the man but obeyed Brian's words.

The loan shark's men gave him a piece of paper proving his debt and Brian gave him the money to count. Seeing the envelope containing the money, the man's smile brightened, his gaze sparkled.

They signed the agreement without wasting any more time. Brian didn't want to stay with them any longer, and when he was done, he immediately left there, not caring about the people who had tortured him just because he had no money. But once the money was in their hands, they immediately became lenient.

“Cash is king,” he said.

I don't know where Brian will take shelter from the rain and heat today. Leaving without knowing the destination, only solving problems and threats, now he is confused about where to put his things. Maybe in a hotel or temporary storage area? Looking for a house was not an easy matter, he just acted without thinking about what would happen later.

For almost an hour he walked aimlessly, joining the crowd, just staring at the hotels or motels he passed. The hotel traumatized him, reminded him of Clarissa making out with another man and betraying him, it's really sad, isn't it?

Having trouble with his luggage, Brian stopped in the middle of the road, he glanced to the right, left, front and back, there was no one. His mind was so busy with something that he didn't know where he was now other than the deserted street. Suddenly his ears caught someone's groan.

"That's where it came from," he said to himself as he directed his gaze forward.

Brian hurried over, his voice becoming clearer. Brian turned around, and saw what happened. A girl is surrounded by several men.

"Please do not hurt me. "I don't have anything," said the girl in fear, hugging her shabby bag tightly as if it contained something valuable.

“Don't worry, beautiful. We won't take anything from you as long as you make us satisfied with yours, how about it?” said one of the men and they laughed happily

The girl became increasingly frightened which actually made the male bullies happy, her moans of fear were like moans calling them.

Brian sighed. He couldn't just leave it like that, especially since she was a helpless girl.

"Do not interfere." His heart whispered as Brian was about to step forward.

"Help."

Brian saw the girl's gaze penetrate the gap in the crowd of street thugs who trapped the girl's petite body against the wall. Her pitiful eyes and trembling lips called for Brian to save her.

“That's none of his business. Let's go." His heart held him back again, making Brian's steps hesitate.

In between the thugs' satisfied laughter, the girl's tears fell but Brian was confused, whether to follow his heart or save the girl? Clarissa's betrayal traumatized Brian's heart, and he doubted women, that's why he remained silent while looking at the girl with a look of pity. Then Brian turned around and left the place and ignored the girl.
