The House Deed

Dennis sneered. He was tired of talking with Sasha. It was apparent she was done with him, but he didn't mind, it didn't bother him anymore.

He might have loved her once, but those feelings were no longer there. He reached and grabbed the divorce papers, sliding it towards himself and picked up the pen on the table and signed it.

As Margaret watched Dennis finally sign the papers, she felt elated. Finally her plans were in motion, and she would never have to entertain such a loser as her son-in-law again.

Her daughter could go ahead and marry someone of her class and bring honor to their family.

However, Sasha had a different expression; she had loved Dennis for a long time and felt uncomfortable, bothered by the fact that she was letting go of someone who held a meaningful and deep part in her life.

She stopped by the door and turned, facing Dennis, and her eyes revealed a sadness within it, but she took a long-suffering sigh, comforting herself that they were not in the same world anymore and she had to let him go.

Dennis slid the paper over to his mother-in-law and walked towards the door without uttering a word.

But Sasha extended her arm and blocked him just before he walked out,

"Wait," she said and walked towards a drawer in the office, pulled out a document and handed it to Dennis.

"What is this?" Dennis asked as he stared at the brown paper bag, and Sasha heaved a sigh

"This is a housing contract. This bag contains all the deeds of our first house in Glendale. You should have it," she said as Dennis opened the seal and brought out a few documents going over it.

Everything was there, the deeds to their first house before Sasha became a CEO and they moved out.

"Please take it," Sasha said

"It's the least I can do for you. Consider it a compensation for everything," she added, gazing at him.

Dennis stared at her unbelievably and gave her a wry smile. He could tell this was merely an effort for her to let go of her guilt. That it wasn't a genuine act. Still, it was pointless to say no.

He shoved the papers back into the paper bag and carried it,

"Okay," he said and walked towards the door, leaving Sasha and her mother at a loss for words.

"You don't just listen, do you?" Margaret said sharply as soon as Dennis walked out

"Not now, Mom", Sasha said and started walking towards the door. Margaret quickly stepped in front of her

"How could you give that loser the house? He doesn't deserve a single penny from us, and you give him the house?!" She exclaimed, unhappy with her daughter's decisions,

"Mom, I said not now," Sasha bellowed, walking around her mother

"Oh, I get it. You're now the top-shot CEO, and so you won't listen to your mother. Well, we'll see",

"That worthless scum should not be getting that house!" She yelled at her daughter

"He shouldn't be getting anything from us! And I'll make sure he doesn't when I get those documents back from him," Margaret raged, pulled out her phone and swiftly made a call.

As he got to the street, Dennis boarded a taxi and gave the driver the location of the house in Glendale.

When he arrived at the house, he walked around it, flooded with emotions and memories of him and Sasha in this place and the promises they made to build a small family together and so, he decided to keep it.

Suddenly he heard footsteps lightly threading the hardwood floors

"Who's there?" He said, actively becoming vigilant.

The small figure carefully entered the room, raising her hands to surrender herself from an attack,

"Forgive me for intruding, Mr Apollo," she said respectfully, slowly approaching him.

Dennis had trouble recognising her, but her face looked faintly familiar,

"Who are you? And what are you doing in my home?", He asked sternly,

"My name is Yura, and I need your help to save my grandfather," she said, articulating her words carefully

"Your grandfather?" Dennis asked, puzzled. It seemed like a rather strange request as he had no knowledge of who she was talking about, especially after he had left his old life behind. Suddenly, he came to the realization. Whoever this person was, she knew of his past

"Who exactly are you?" He asked, intrigued, staring at her. The lady walked closer to him and stood before him, trying hard to maintain her composure

"I'm Yura Hughes",

At the mention of the name, Dennis finally recognized where he had seen her face.

He realized he was standing face to face with the granddaughter of the richest man in the city - Duncan Hughes

"I'm sorry to bother you, Mr Apollo, but my grandfather is not doing so well, and he needs your help", Yura said, this time more confidently.

Dennis frowned; he didn't want to be a part of that world anymore, at least not yet,

"Didn't I just save your grandfather last year. He seemed to be doing better and recovering. He looked healthier last time I saw him," He said and turned, walking towards the refrigerator and grabbing a cold beer

"What happened?" He asked, twisting open the bottle cap with his hand as he took a swig and stared at Yura.

Just as he was thinking, trying to fit the pieces together, whilst awaiting an explanation from Yura, he heard a voice and could immediately recognize the annoying sound of it,

"Hand over the house contract," The man said, walking into view.
