When the doctor had gotten halfway through his story Timothy came in and asked immediately, "John, is Arwin at the condition to walk now, or do I have to wait?"
"She's fine to walk; she just finished eating also, but take it slowly first and no fights or anything, okay?" The doctor replied curiously. It was interesting to see Timothy act urgently.
“I can’t promise that, but I’ll make sure Arwin won’t be back here getting treatment from you today.” Timothy smiled mischievously
The doctors smiled as he shook his head in disappointment.
"Okay. Arwin, I think I found your pistol, but they refused to sell it to me, saying that you are the only one who can buy it directly. They were snickering and clearly looking down on you. They said you have this week to buy it before the auction as per rules. I have your papers here, and we can go there and demand your pistol. They even dare to laugh at my face when I said your name. They said I am a friend of wannabe female mechanic, among other things that I don't want you to hear." Timothy said furiously. Despite that, he secretly wanted to believe in Arwin's skills.
"They dare say that?! Very good. I wanted to pay back to those people anyway, and now is a good time for it," Arwin said confidently, her eyes glinted sharply as she looked forward to how to deal with the people who dared look down on her. She got up from the hospital bed, a little wobbly at first, but soon found her balance.
She started to walk towards the door and managed to get out with great effort. Behind her was Timothy; he was confirming that she won't fall down.
Arwin says, “Don’t worry too much. I learned something from my previous defeat.”
Timothy was shocked. It wasn’t simply overconfidence nor pride. It was sincere. Arwin was determined to prove her worth.
It did not take long for her to reach her destination. She finally stood in front of the same stairs, where she was thrown out before and lost consciousness. Arwin could still see the small spot of dried blood at the steps, precisely her blood.
Arwin was already fuming inside, furthermore when she realized that they haven't even cleaned it out! As If they were waiting for her to come back and see her failures for herself. Arwin was used to being belittled or underestimated because of her small frame and gender, which is why hiding it seemed like a better option.
But Arwin smirked; she thought to herself, ‘Nothing beats an opponent’s expression just as they experience defeat BEFORE the hands of the person they underestimate.’
Without waiting for Timothy, Arwin walked towards the entrance and opened the doors once again.
When she got inside, the buzzing stopped, and some who recognized her started to whisper while some were loudly talking and pointing at her. They were calling her the rumored wannabe mechanic was back even when she was thrown out already once.
'She really dared to show her face here again?'
'That's her, the female mechanic… Really, shameless…'
'Oh? What does she want now?'
The murmurs and whispered continued, but Arwin ignored them and strode towards the counter, where the weapons or items they had lost were placed.
When the clerk saw her, "Oh, the one who said she is a mechanic and an airship captain is here! The clerk said and then laughed.
Arwin glared at the clerk and said, "How much? I want my weapon back." She demanded.
Arwin was furious, but she knows it Will get her nowhere; they were clearly at a disadvantage here- they were outnumbered.
"Really? It costs ten gold coins. But… I know it is impossible for you to have that much money. I have an offer. If you pass the mechanic test. I will give it to you for free. You can also have other weapon or an item of your choice. Luckily for you, I'm an elder here. I can bring you there immediately if you want. I am really curious and want to see your rumored amazing skills in repairing ships. However, we cannot test the flying skills, at least not now, so you only have to show your skills in one field. Do you dare accept this offer?" The clerk offered without sincerity, clearly mocking her. Just with the way the clerk was trying to hold out his laughter, it proved enough.
The clerk was waiting to see a good show, just like everyone else in the guilt. They all wanted to see Arwin turn down the offer so that they could start to laugh out loud finally.
However, no one expected her response, "Is that it? Wonderful! You won't go back to your word, right? You are the elder and should have something that is called dignity." Arwin said with a mocking smirk.
"Of course! Everyone here is a witness to this promise. I will also call the other elders to judge. So let's proceed. The task is to repair a small version of an airship; it's only for test use." The elder said with confidence. He then walked towards a room.
“That’s great.” Arwin remarks
Arwin followed the elder; when she entered the room, she saw a small airship. Some parts of the engine were missing, and all of the missing pieces were neatly placed next to the airship.
"As you can see, we need you to build this airship. There is also a list of problems that you have to solve relating to it. We have provided every tool you need and every item you also need next to it. You have four hours to finish this. As for the judges, your friend can confirm that they are our guilds top mechanics so that the judging will be fair. So are you ready, or do you want to give up immediately?" The clerk asked with a smirk after explaining the rules.
"I'm ready. You can start the time." Arwin said with indifference as she looked at the airship.
Timothy, who was watching, was both thrilled and nervous about how the situation suddenly developed. This is the best opportunity for him to see if Arwin was a hoax or not. He was really anticipating this test like a small child in a candy shop wanting his favorite candy.
At the same time, he also feared that Arwin really didn't know what she would be doing. In the end, he planned to put his trust in her.
"Your time starts now! Remember, you can give up at any time you want." The clerk said, and Arwin went towards the ship and started first to inspect it.
Everyone was laughing at what she was doing, waiting for her to fail horribly. Some of them even had the audacity to bring their own snacks and drink, while some also started to sell food and drinks as it turned into a public event now.
Arwin found herself smiling from excitement. She felt at home the most when she’s presented with an airship. She looks at it like a kid looks at a new toy- with such excitement and joy.
After Arwin finished her inspection, she then looked at the tools and all of the things stacked next to the ship with a deep frown. Seeing this, someone from the audience shouted out, "Do you just plan to stare at it." "Stop pretending and give up already." Another one from the crowd yelled. The elder snickered at the rest of the crowd was booing and laughing at her. Arwin didn't care about the constant noise of ridicule around her. At that moment, she was in a world of her own. She was listing all the problems on the ship, noting them all inside her head. After looking it through, she took a pencil and wrote the answers to those questions that needed it. Some of the problems had to demonstrate and fix on the ship, and they were marked with a star, which could be dealt with later on. As soon as Arwin was done with the paper, the shouting began again. "What nonsense did you write there for you to finish that quickly?" th
"Hmmm… Tom… That is really interesting." The guild master muttered out while thinking something before he shouted out, "Tom, I know you are here! Come forward now." Tom, who was just about to leave, suddenly stiffened like a statue, gulped out nervously before turning around and walked towards the Guild Master. "Tom, I want the records from the examination. Where is the memory crystal? Do not tell me that some unfortunate thing happened to the memory crystal as well." The Guild Master asked out while sizing Tom up. He was clearly disappointed. Tom stammers, “I uh…uh.” But before Tom could even construct his sentence to answer the question, the other elder came forward and said, "Here are the records, Guild Master. I was interested in her since she should at least get some points. Yet, she got full zero, so I wanted to see the records myself." After saying that, the elder gave the records to the Guild Master. "Sir, we inspected the ship and the
Arwin was happily whistling while following the guild master. She completely forgot Timothy for now, who was having the worst crisis in his life now. He had finally found out a genuine mechanic, maybe even an airship captain, but she went and offended his boss child, and Silas was still an essential part of his plan like Arwin was. So what if Arwin would join the guild now where he would get another mechanic? Timothy’s fears are now being realized as he didn't even notice that Arwin had already left as he was pondering what he should do next. Arwin was clever, and Timothy knew that if he were in Arwin’s shoes, he’d immediately dismiss Silas’ offer- the guild can offer her twice as much. And here, she wouldn’t have to pretend she’s a guy. Timothy’s heart was racing as he was thinking what he should do. "So, as I said, you will randomly draw three of the items and two you can choose, but firstly let's see where your pistol is." The guild
The only way for me to survive the heist is by escaping from the city to the wilderness. They wouldn't be happy that their warehouse was looted, after all. I guess I still need Timothy to at least how know the outside world is looking like.' Arwin silently thought about her plan to rob the place. She also knew that she wouldn't be able to do it on her own and that she needed help from someone who is trustworthy enough. Arwin was still in deep thought when she noticed the Guild Master come out. "Your luck really is extraordinary. All of the items you got are in this backpack, that is also your third item, and it's another failed experience of a spatial space. Despite that, it still can store nearly seventy liters while the toolbox can only store near to ten liters." He explained. "As I said before, it's an experiment and could be unstable, so I won't guarantee that they won't explode later on. For the other two items, I guess I will let you check them
Arwin couldn't get the image of the ship out of head for even a second. Because of this, she aimlessly walked out of the guild. She also failed to remember what the Guild Master had told her after introducing the airship. Add to the fact that she didn't realize how the people who once were mocking her now were whispering her name in an excited manner as well. She didn’t care about anything else. When she also got outside, she just walked past the nervous Timothy, who was waiting for her patiently. Earlier, when he realized that he didn't know where Arwin went, he decided to wait for her outside of the main exit. Finally, when he saw Arwin, he waved at her and tried to call her name. After so much effort, he just ran towards her and stopped her. "Don't you recognize your first friend anymore? I tried to call you, but you just kept walking." Timothy said while trying to sound sorrowful; he looks away, “What? Just because they have a better offer, you’d
"Timothy, we would need some brute force if things go wrong or once the docking and the fuel are placed at the airship. So you would be really needed. Please, think this through." Arwin said while watching Timothy. “I agree.” Mark added, “This plan has less risks than yours, Timothy, and as much as I don’t want to admit it, we will need you aboard.” "I have to talk with my wife about this as well as with Marie. I need to know what they think about this first. I cannot promise anything for now," Timothy said as he nervously fidgeted his thumbs around, “It’s just… it’s too soon.” Arwin nodded, "Okay, we do understand. However, the offer will close after three days. Hopefully, by then, we are out of here," she said before drinking water again and continuing, "So, Timothy, can you tell me about the outside world, at least?" She asked cutely. Everyone was surprised at this sudden shift in her mood; Timothy asked, “Hey, what’s wrong with you? You’re like a
Arwin and Mark had agreed to scout ahead tonight since she was feeling so much better. Aside from that, scouting was critical and could not be delayed. Arwin was to look and act like a man, which isn’t new to her nor difficult for her. She’s been doing it for as long as she can remember. However, when Mark saw Arwin, he almost couldn't believe his eyes. He was so shocked. Mark‘s unusually expressionless face was shocked to see Arwin like that. In front of him was now an elegantly dressed young man who didn't seem to be female at all. He was more likely looking at a frail young master from some noble family who had come to seek mischievous adventure. All traces of Arwin’s girl's side were gone. No one would suspect Arwin in this case. "What do you think, Mark? Is this good enough to flirt with women and fight with drunkards in the city?" Arwin asked with a smirk while placing the pistol inside her jacket. She had borrowed a rapier from the doctor, leaving her
'So the shift changes in half an hour it seems and always three people at the patrol. The patrols will stop for five minutes and search the area before meeting in the middle of the road and continuing, and one patrol takes one hour.' Arwin was noting things out silently while drinking water still. Suddenly, she saw a familiar figure coming out from the guild. "Hey, beautiful flowers, can you do me a favor and go and bring that man out here for a drink for extra service, or if he touches any of you, I will pay extra," Arwin said before tossing a coin purse to the prostitutes that were waiting for their turn to earn money. "Okay young master, wait for a moment, and we will bring your esteemed friend here." One of the girls winked out, and they took their leave. Arwin winced internally. The money she loaned from Mark and the doctor was almost entirely spent. However, if this were successful, she would earn it back at least tenfold. "Back of your
