Chapter Six

The manager remained on the floor, his head bowed respectfully. The receptionist noticed what her boss was doing and quickly joined in too, not even knowing why.

"How could you delay the young master?" The manager snapped at her and that was the first time she saw the token. Immediately, she prostrated and asked for pardon.

"I'll forgive you both if you send them out of the hotel," Alexander, gesturing to Fiona and Sam.

Fiona scoffed, she folded her hands without moving, she knew how important she was. How important the Tudor family was to the growth and success of the Continental hotel. She believed they would never dream of sending her away just because of Alexander.

But to her absolute surprise, she saw the manager quickly nod and then got on his feet, walking to her with an apologetic look on his face. "I'm sorry, but I have no choice," he said.

Sam sneered at the man, "How dare you address the president of the Tudor family in such a manner? Do you have any idea who we are?"

The manager nodded, but he was truly helpless and he told them to leave. Sam was about to slap him for his insolence but Fiona held him back. "I'll make sure the Tudor family no longer partners with you! This city will be too unbearable for you!" She snapped and stumped out of the place, Sam trailing just behind her.

The manager sighed and once again apologized to Alex for any misunderstanding, gave him his keycard and took him to the grand master's suite himself. "If there's anything you need, our men will attend to you and make sure you're comfortable," he said and then Alex waved at him to leave.

Power, that was what Alex could taste right at the tip of his tongue.

And it didn't feel strange, no, he felt like he'd been made for it and he was just living the life he was ordained for, the life he could remember as a child, the life of power.

"Young master, we have received information that the Tudor family is trying to sign another deal, should we stop them?" One of the guards asked. Alexander shook his head, "We can't give ourselves away so quickly, we have to lay low and make sure no one finds out too soon," he warned.

The guard did not quite understand why he wanted to live in the shadows again after so many years of being cheated, having his right taken from him. He couldn't wait for the young master to reclaim everything and become the grand master of the entire city, just like his father had been.

"Sir, we have all the resources to take them down, they are like flies before us now," the man said through clenched teeth.

"No, don't interfere, I will try to remain undercover as long as I can, I have to find out who is loyal to the Sean family and who isn't," he replied.

The guard frowned and asked him how he would do that without getting in danger. "The boss, Pa Harry took a great deal of risk looking for you, if we could find you then that means someone else might have, we must tighten security," the guard replied humbly.

Alexander refused, "I have been away from this life for most of my life, I'm sure I can manage a few more days to get what I need," he insisted and the guard knew better than to argue so he kept shut and allowed him to have his way.

It was not going to be an easy ride - but he was braced up for the new life and responsibilities that would come. Alexander was still pondering on what the old butler was trying to keep from. He wondered how bad the incident from his early life had been. Somehow, his mind had blocked out the incident and he barely had blurry images of his childhood and life with his family.

"I want some time alone, I'll call you if I need you," Alexander said to the guard who looked a little uncertain but he finally nodded and left. Alexander was about to undress and get under the shower for a brother to clean off after a hectic day. Unbuttoning his shirt, he was about to pull off his shoes when he heard a gasp from across the hall of the hotel just before he closed the door.

Alexander was sure of what he heard, intrigued, he listened carefully and sure enough, the

the same sound came from the same direction again. He pulled on his shirt and laced up his shoe as he went to investigate it. It sounded oddly like a female, a muffled tone.

As he turned to the corner of the hallway, he saw where it was all coming from. There was a girl trying to get out of the pool. She was flailing her arms wildly but all that could be heard through the thick soundproof glass was a muffled scream that sounded like a soft gasp. It was clear that she couldn't swim and had strayed from the shallow end of the pool.

Alexander didn't waste a second, he quickly jumped into the pool and swimmed to her, she was at the deep end of the pool and clearly didn't know how to swim. He was able to call her down as he swam with her to the edge and laid her down on the edge of the pool. At once, he made sure she coughed up the water and was able to breath before he left her to call for the hotel security.

It was his guards that arrived first and then the hotel doctor arrived to take care of the situation. Alexander looked at her pitifully as she was being taken away - thankfully conscious.

As the paramedics left, he noticed that the girl had forgotten something right by the side of the pool, it was a locket hanging off a lovely gold necklace.
