The Golden snail

Fear paralyzed the fox family. They had never been in such a tight position before.

“Please, don't kill him,” a member of the Fox family cried out. “He's the most important member of our family. His existence matters to us. Take my life instead.”

Moses could tell even without a prophet that this woman was the child's mother.

“That depends on him,” Moses responded to her. “You people claimed the life of an innocent man. How do you account for that?”

The masked woman gulped. “We can pay for damages and—”

“Bullshit!” Moses barked. “Don't treat human lives like they're commodities to be bought and sold. If that's how little you value the life of someone, then I have no problems with slaughtering the child.”

“The reason we chose not to kill you in the first place was because we don't know the extent of your wealth or powers,” the tall man said breathlessly. “We are truly sorry for murdering the slave dealer. Please, spare our patriarch.”
