Chapter 8

Maxwell ran to the old woman and quickly helped her up. She resisted but he managed to drag her up.

"Grandma, how could you do this?" His voice trembled.

John and Vicky burst into laughter. They held their stomachs while they tried to contain their happiness, "Serves her right for having an insolent son. I can see it runs in your family's blood".

Maxwell felt his heart racing. His breathing became heavy.

"How dare you insult my grandmother like that?!".

John nodded but before he got the chance to speak, Maxwell grabbed him by the collar. He glared into his eyes, "I dare you to say another word".

A small crowd had gathered, watching and murmuring. They held their breaths waiting for the next action.

His grandmother tried to pull him away. "Maxwell, you're going to end your life in prison if you continue this way, please, stop!" Tears rolled down her eyes.

His friend, Alvin, emerged from behind the crowd too. He ran up to his friend, pulling him backward, "There is no need to fight, man. You know he isn't worth it. Think about school".

Maxwell tightened his grip on John's collar, barely letting him breathe.

"Even your dumb friend and insolent grandmother knows you'd be done for if you touched me. I'd make sure you'd get more than suspension this time. How does being expelled sound?", John continued to mock him. He and Vicky laughed while they watched Maxwell struggle to hold back.

"Come on, do it. I dare you!".

Maxwell clenched his hand into a fist and wanted to punch when he saw his grandmother fall. She grunted in pain when her bottom suddenly hit the floor. Maxwell pushed John and ran to his Grandma. "Are you alright?".

John continued to mock him, "That's what the old brat gets for having a grandson like you". Maxwell raised his eyes to John. He had had enough and was about to pounce on him when his grandmother pulled him back to herself.

"Leave him alone. Let's go home please. My back is hurting". Her words brought him back to his senses. He and his friends managed to help his grandmother up and were about to leave when Vicky threw a shoe at him.

"And where do you think you're going?".

Maxwell stopped and said coldly. "You should count yourself lucky that my grandmother was here today".

John stepped forward but Vicky held him back.

"He doesn't deserve it. There's no need to get upset".

John took a deep breath. He pushed Vicky aside.

"You can leave once you pay for my medical bills".

"What medical bills?"

Maxwell stood upright as he watched John approach him. They stood facing each other. John looked over at his grandmother, "Your grandson here beat me up last time. Tell him to pay for my medical bills and I will gladly let you go".

His grandmother tore away from Alvin's grasp and got in between them. Her limping leg moved fast as she quickly pulled out her purse from her bag and took out some dollar bills from it.

She squeezed them into John's hands and begged for him to manage whatever it was.

John smirked and threw the change directly in her face.

"You think some chicken chain is going to be enough for the beating your son did to me?"

The crowd gasped.

That didn't stop John Reider. He spat on her face and proceeded to push her. Maxwell grit his teeth, pulled his grandmother to his side and grabbed John again.

"You dare do that to my grandma?!", He could kill John in an instant if those deadly glares he gave were lethal.

John pushed back. "I'll do that and even more if you don't step back. Fucking dickhead!"

Maxwell's grandmother was still bawling her eyes out while his friend held her when John pushed him off to walk away. He has no hint of remorse in his eyes. Maxwell felt his heart race against his chest.

Unable to hold back, he pushed John to the ground.

"You think you're the only one who can be rude right?"

John tried to get up but Maxwell held him down on the ground firmly. "You think you are the only one allowed to be a brat? Huh?!"

John pushed further to stand but he was weak and powerless. Maxwell was much stronger than him and was taller than he was.

He stood over John and bent to pull his collar, "I'll teach you a good lesson today! I promise".

“Max! Don’t be silly. You’ll get expelled…” Maxwell paused as he heard grandma’s pleading,

but John's smiling face brought him back. His eyes were on Vicky who was making a call while he laughed.

"You think it's funny?" He questioned, his eyes narrowed and something scary flashed in his eyes.

For too long,he had been putting up with all the bullying from people like John silently, but now,he wasn’t what he had been any more. He would never be that weak and pathetic man!

Maxwell grabbed John by the throat and gave a little squeeze, John yelled in pain immediately.

"Maxwell!".

Someone called his name loudly.

It was the school's deputy director.
