Chapter 9

"Maxwell Reed, stop it!!!!" The director's voice was one breath away from being a gong. Everyone trembled at it as they watched him walking towards them.

“Mr Amos, you can see what he had done to me. I, in the name of my father, ask you to expel him from here!”

John glared at Maxwell,said arrogantly.

Mr Amos. The man who had placed Maxwell on suspension trotted over to him and helped him get up,looked over at Maxwell. "You used to behave yourself. I wonder what has gotten into you. I guess maybe a suspension was not enough".

Maxwell’s grandmother's eyes shot up the moment she heard her grandson would be expelled. She ran to the direction and fell on her feet.

"Please, sir. Have mercy! Please. Maxwell is a good kid. Please, let them settle this as kids, there is no reason to be this harsh. His future is on the line."

"Yes sir. You barely asked what had happened here before you jumped to a conclusion. Everyone knows John Reider has been having it out for Maxwell for the past few days. You know Maxwell is not the kind to—

"That's okay!", Maxwell ordered. His commanding voice thrilled the Director. Mr Amis' jaw fell.

Maxwell didn't mind. He walked to his mother and dragged her hand away. "There is no need to beg them, Grandma. Let the director do whatever he wants to do".

He smiled at his friend, "Thanks but you don't need to defend me anymore".

Everyone was shocked at his display. He didn't seem the slightest remorseful at what he did and the Director could see it.

"It's all about money to them", he mumbled.

"How much does his father pay you?" He turned to Mr Amos and asked.

"Excuse me?!".

"I heard his father is the sponsor of our school and I want to know how much he had to buy his son's director's silence, that's all". He interjected.

“Hare dare you talk to me like that!”Mr Amos raised his voice with furious eyes.

"Tell me so I can know the price of what you're willing to side with him for!!", Maxwell demanded.

Mr Amos had had enough. "You want to know what we got from the governor don't you?"

"Tell me!".

"10 million dollars worth of sponsorship!". Everyone gasped when they heard that. It seemed like a lot of money.

"Only?". Maxwell rolled his eyes and scoffed. "Is that the amount of money his father, who is the governor, found only to spare for our school? Is that why you're on his side?!".

The director ignored him. "Is there something important you have to say, Mr Reed? If you don't. Please leave. "

Maxwell sneered, "Because his father handed you eight million dollars. You’ll just ruin another student’s future randomly? ".

He drew closer to the direction, looked him in the eyes for some seconds, and said, "I have an offer!".

John thought it would be something stupid. "Let's hear it, Mr- soon-to-be- expelled student. What are your last words? Do you wish to beg?! Who knows, if you do it or maybe your grandma, I might be gracious enough to show mercy".

He dusted his shoulder and went to flash Maxwell a wry smile.

"How about I triple the amount of sponsorship Mr Reider's father is giving to you?".

Everyone gasped. Maxwell's grandmother looked at him funny. His friend, Alvin thought he was drunk and ran to him, "Man, stop it. What are you doing?!" He grabbed his friend's wrist and tried to pull him away.

Maxwell was much stronger. He resisted and eventually won. Mr Amos looked at him still stunned at his utterance.

"As I was saying. What if I gave you triple that money?"

"Would you stop this?"

Amos raised his brows "And what would be your request if you gave me such an amount?"

Maxwell smiled, "Let's turn the tables around now. How about you expel John instead?".
