Chapter 10 - Besieged

Riko walked along the path because the small way was the closest route to his apartment.

 "Hey! Idiot!"

Riko suddenly stopped when Edward and his gang blocked the road. Even his enemy brought more friends than before.

"Why are you guys here? Isn't the way to your house not this?" Riko asked coldly.

Edward grinned evilly as he played with his baseball bat. "You think we came to these slum streets to go home?"

Riko's furrowed.

Edward chuckled evilly. "Too bad. You're mistaken. Because I'm not as poor as you."

 Riko's fists clenched tightly.

Edward is happy that Riko is provoked. "Why? Are you offended? You intend to kick me like at campus earlier?"

Riko glared at Edward. "I don't know what I did wrong all this time. But if you guys go back to acting out of bounds, then I—"

"What?!" Edward demanded, defiant. "Do you intend to kill us all? Are you sure?"

Laughter instantly resounded in the hallway.

Riko gets even more emotional. He seemed to be burning with surging anger.

'Calm down, Riko. You will be in big trouble if you fight with them. They're just a bunch of mama's kids who constantly use their power on campus to kick me out!'

"Move. I'm going through." Riko just walked away.

Edward reflexively pushed Riko as he was about to leave.

"You idiot! Even though I openly invited you to fight to avenge my defeat earlier!"

"I don't have time. Just find a kid you can play with because I have a lot to do," Riko sneered coldly.

Edward growled angrily. "Don't act too busy! What business?! Business to solve that stupid opinion of yours?!"

The laughter exploded again.

Riko was silent while cursing in his heart.

"That's what happens if you're an orphan. So, you don't have parents who can educate you!"

"You are a Bastard!" Riko lands a fist on Edward's jaw. As a result, the young man immediately bounced away and ended up in the trash.

Edward's friends gaped in shock.

"Do you guys want too, huh?!"  Riko glared at Edward's gang in anger.  He lost his former self.

"No!" They shook their heads quickly and ran away screaming.

"Argh!" Riko suddenly groaned. Slowly mysterious scales appear on Riko's arm. He was wide-eyed.

"What is this?" Riko was stunned. His arms were covered in strange black scales.

"You …!" Edward gaped in horror as he saw strange snake-like scales running down his enemy's arm.

"Do you know this?" Riko gave Edward a frightened look. From Edward's expression, iiq seemed to know the origin of the scales.

"You are monsters!" Edward cursed before running off, catching up with his friends.

"Hey! Wait! Don't run … argh!" Riko groaned in pain as the scales spread even wider. He felt hot; the pain was like being stung by a venomous snake.

Riko fell to his knees, clutching his hand.

However, a blue light suddenly burst out of nowhere and covered Riko.

Riko is shocked when he finds a blue wall covering him. "What's this-"

Bruk!

Riko suddenly loses consciousness and faints.

 ***

"Argh…" Riko grimaced while opening his eyes slowly.

"Where am I?" Riko tried to recognize where he was now. The hot sun shining in from the trees dazzled his eyes. The first thing Riko saw were dense trees.

Riko tried to sit up. "Where am I?!"

The green-eyed youth was both shocked and confused to find himself moving dimensions.

"What forest is this? How did I get here? Wasn't I arguing with Edward?" The question immediately filled Riko's brain. The forest was different from the forest he had once explored in search of the mythological creature's whereabouts.

With great difficulty, Riko stood up and walked limping, looking for help.

'This is really weird. Since I found that strange box, I always experience events beyond reason,' Riko wonders.

"Hello! Is anyone here?!"  Riko's screamed echoed through the wilderness, but no one answered.

Only the sound of birds chirping and the sounds of other forest dwellers could be heard.

After half an hour of exploring the forest, Riko found a trail. He walked following the pathway. The road leads Rikp to a magnificent and fantastic city.

Riko was lost for words with that sight. Many strange animals, such as giant dragons and winged humans, that fly adorn the blue sky.

"Isn't that the country I often watch in movies?"

Riko edged closer to a pile of hay and hid behind it. Secretly he peered at the activities of the creatures that he had always believed existed with a twinkle.

'Finally, I can find them! I have to take a photo of it and send it to my college friends, so they believe what I'm saying is true! Riko scrambled to get his cell phone out of his trouser pocket, but it wasn't there.

"Where's my cellphone? Did it fall over when I fought with Edward earlier? Argh! Damn it!" Riko cursed.

"Who is there?!"

Riko flinched in surprise when the terrible voice called out to him. He immediately hid behind a pile of hay.

'Shit! I know—'

"Argh!" Riko groaned in pain when a mysterious giant snake suddenly wrapped around his body along with the haystack. As a result, he was trapped and unable to escape.

"Who are you!?" The question came out of the mouth of a human centipede. His voice was as scary as a monster. "You must be one of the royal gang of Verosham!"

Riko shook his head quickly. "N-no!"

"Do not lie!" The man was genuinely terrible. His height and size exceed Riko's.

"Really!"

"How dare a bastard like you enter our territory?! Is your king not satisfied with destroying our people?! Even though we have repeatedly said that the Cube is ours!" snapped the half-horse demon.

 "Cube?" Riko frowned. "What's that?"

"Don't lie! You must be an intruder! There's no way you'd come here without the intention of snatching the God's Cube!"

Riko was stunned. 'God Cube? What does that box mean….' he remembered the box he met in the forest then.

"Answer me!"
