78. The Dark Plan

Chapter Seventy Seven

As the woman in black disappeared into the shadows, Vincent's mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and questions. He couldn't just let her slip away without knowing more.

"Wait," he called out, his voice trembling with a mix of curiosity and trepidation. "I never got your name."

She paused and turned back to him, her dark figure outlined by the faint light filtering in from the corridor. "Names don't matter in this world," she replied cryptically.

Vincent hesitated, then pressed further. "But still, I'd like to know who saved my life tonight."

The woman hesitated for a moment, as if contemplating whether to reveal any part of herself. Then she spoke in that same soft voice, "Call me Elena."

"Elena," Vincent repeated, the name rolling off his tongue. It sounded familiar, though he couldn't quite place it. "Thank you for sparing me."

A hint of sadness seemed to touch Elena's voice as she replied, "Don't thank me yet. You have a message to deliver, Vincent."
