Chapter Ten

Rhys could tell that his father was angry by the way he clenched the steering wheel tightly, he thought that it might break. Few moments later, the car was parked in the VIP area of a restaurant.

Alcatraz.

At first glance, Rhys could tell that it was one of those luxurious and expensive restaurant where no one without an invitation or a proper identity could get in. He glanced at his father with a questioning gaze. “Why are we here?”

“So you can get a proper meal.” Alessandro replied with a matter of fact tone before stepping out of the car.

Rhys also stepped out and walked to his side, cautiously staring at the stern looking guards at the entrance. “Are you sure we should be here?”

Alessandro simply stared at the restaurant in disdain, he took out a card from his pocket. It looked like a random black card but had the an insignia of a phoenix in flight and the word FERNANDEZ written in bold letters on the other side. “This is one of the Topaz family’s establishment. Who dares to stop me?”

Such bold words. Not everyone was capable of uttering them.

They started walking towards the entrance, but midway, Alessandro’s phone rang, as he glanced at it, his brows furrowed a little. He handed the card to Rhys. “Just give this to one of the attendants, they’ll lead you to an exclusive room. Just order anything you fancy, I’ll catch up with you.”

Rhys nodded once, he was tempted to ask the reason why his father was worried but soon discarded the thought. With the card in hand, he strolled towards the entrance.

“Speak.” Alessandro’s tone and aura grew colder, nothing compared to when he spoke to Rhys. The only source of warmth could be found in his eyes, as he watched his son stroll through the entrance of Alcatraz.

As Rhys entered the restaurant, a pair of couple fell on his line of sight. Malia and Rafael. His wife and her most fervent admirer.

A frown appeared on his face, he chose to look away but his eyes unfortunately locked with Malia. She stood up, Rafael followed suit and they both walked towards him. Rhys rubbed his forehead, he could feel an headache coming with every step they took towards him.

Malia’s jaw dropped as she was standing face to face with Rhys. With her eyes wide open and mouth agape. “Oh… my.. gosh” She had to admit, she has never seen any man so handsome with exquisite facial features, skin as fair and smooth as a woman’s , long lashes, straight nose and thin lips.

“Oh, look who’s here? Ha! A wretched fool.” Rafael’s loud voice and boisterous laughter drew the attention of almost everyone in the restaurant. “I didn’t know that one had to depend on looks to be able to enter Alcatraz.”

“Loser, why are you here?” Her previously surprised expression changes to that of annoyance, even if her heart was racing thanks to his new appearance, she couldn’t forget that he has nothing to his name.

Rhys face was devoid of any affectionate emotions such as friendliness, there was only coldness and indifference. “I don’t think I’m obliged to let you know.” He clenched the card in his hand.

“You don’t have any right to be here.” She stated clearly.

“Would you, a pauper be able to afford even a glass of water here, or did you suddenly become a boy toy to a rich lady?” Rafael said. Malia gasped loudly, she looked like she was thoroughly surprised but then there was mockery in her eyes.

“Mind your words.” Rhys noticed that some of the people in the restaurant were looking at him like he was a joke. From his outfit alone, it could be said that he had no penny to his name.

Rafael called one of the attendants who showed up with a smile. “How can I help you sir?”

“You should ask this beggar to live, I’m doing you a favor by letting you know that he wouldn’t be able to pay for the cheapest meal here.” Rafael had a smirk on his face.

The attendant only took a glance at Rhys, most precisely, his outfit that came from a thrift store. She made her assumption and forced a smile on her face. “I believe you might be in a wrong place, sir.”

“Wrong place ha! You should throw him out of here.” Rafael laughed. There were hushed whispers in the restaurant, everyone was looking forward to a good show.

“Don’t you dare embarrass my family name.” Malia warned.

“I would like an exclusive room please.”

Some people were already laughing, Malia was no exception. The attendant has a queasy smile on her face, she started blaming her luck. “Sir please don’t make it hard for us. The exclusive room is- it’s called exclusive for a reason.”

“Do you think I can’t afford to get it?”

“I bet you wouldn’t be able to and if you can, We would walk out of this place naked!” Rafael pulled Malia closer to him, his arm around her waist.

“Are you sure?”

“ Yes! I never go back on my words.”

He boasted. Seeing the calm expression on Rhys face, Malia was worried. ‘Could it be that- no’

“Be sure to remember them,” Rhys raised the black card. The attendant froze. Everyone froze. The attendant could see the insignia on the card, she instantly knew what it represented. Everyone knew what a black card represented. “Now can I get an exclusive room.”

The attendant quickly regained her composure, her smile was no longer forced. “Come with me sir.”

Rhys took a step forward, then he halted and turned to looked at Malia and Rafael. The pair had an infuriated expression, Malia’s face darkened and twisted with malevolence. Rafael wanted a place to hide, gone was his boldness, he felt utterly shamed as he thought of the statements he had made before everyone. “I think you guys should start stripping.”

“Rhys-”

“We don’t have all day, do we?” The smirk on his face was devilish, his eyes cold and unfeeling. Malia felt cold shivers on her back.
