Chapter 7. Control Center: That's Six General Manager?

[WELCOME TO CONTROL CENTER, PLAYERS! WE WELCOME YOUR ARRIVAL WITH A LOT OF LOVE]

Lucius didn't understand what was going on.

After he was forced to agree to the army men's invitation, Lucius and Kaylee were taken to a magnificent building. The shape of the building from the outside is like a stadium. The difference is that this building is not open like a stadium, but is closed but with a soaring roof.

From the lobby floor, anyone can see the second floor to the fourth floor. While the fifth floor onwards was closed off, it couldn't be seen from below.

Lucius and Kaylee were just passing through the lobby floor. The elevator they took moved to the twelfth floor. Then came the view of the wide room. When going inside, this room has two open floors.

The second floor divider of this room is hip-high glass for an adult. On the right Lucius could see about five people in predominantly black suits with a bit of white trim at some points.

On the left Lucius saw about six people in suits predominately white with a slight tint of red at several points.

Everyone standing on the second floor on the right and left watched intently. Lucius didn't feel intimidated at all, whereas Kaylee was a little awkward the whole time she was walking in.

'Who are they?' Lucius asked himself inwardly. 'Are they high level players?'

Lucius had no time to find an answer in his own mind. But his attention was distracted by the sound of an announcement from the speaker.

"Welcome, dear players!"

Lucius looked for where the sound was coming from. Suddenly the big screen in the middle of the room lit up, showing the figure of a man with a circular hat that almost covered his upper face.

"Who's he?" asked Lucius, muttering.

"Someone you should respect." John Attreas suddenly answered.

Slightly surprised, Lucius looked questioningly at John.

"Which should I respect?"

"Our leader. He is the one who provides sophisticated facilities and gives you training," John explained.

Lucius frowned. His curiosity did not go unanswered. John's answer raises new questions.

"Giving what training?"

Before John could give an answer, someone on the screen spoke again.

"You should be proud because you are the people chosen by God who will be the superheroes for the city!"

Seriously, Lucius didn't really understand why that man was talking about 'superhero'?

What did the superhero mean he said?

"Superhero? Are we going to experience life like in the movies?" one of them shouted.

"Woah! Great! So, among the people who weren't brought here, we are the chosen superheroes?"

Lucius and Kaylee looked at each other uncomprehendingly. They were astonished because, instead of worrying that something bad might happen, the people here were enthusiastic.

Why are these people proud after being sad because they parted with their families?

Do they not think about what will happen to their family members or other people?

Lucius had an uneasy feeling. Moreover, the smile full of meaning on the face of the man on the screen seemed to be hiding something.

"Yes, that's right! You are the chosen ones who are very lucky because you will receive training to become a superhero!"

The next second, enthusiastic voices and whispers were heard among each other. Indeed, not all look excited by the man's words. But Lucius saw more enthusiastic than unenthusiastic people.

Lucius and Kaylee were not enthusiastic.

"Lucius," whispered Kaylee, calling, leaning close to Lucius' ear.

Looking straight at the screen and observing the man's gestures, Lucius cleared his throat in response.

Kaylee made sure the two army men accompanying her and Lucius paid no attention to the two of them.

After making sure the two army men wouldn't listen as they were busy calming the crowd, Kaylee continued.

"Do you feel something strange?" she asked.

Lucius was silent. It turned out that Kaylee felt the same way as he did.

'Everything since I woke up on the pavement has felt strange,' Lucius answered inside.

"Yes," Lucius answered Kaylee curtly, "everything is strange, including the people who feel enthusiastic here."

"I wonder about them too, but I wonder more about the guy," Kaylee said honestly.

Lucius's eyes glanced at the man on the screen who was giving instructions for everyone to be quiet. Lucius paid attention to every detail of the man's gestures.

"Yeah. Me too," Lucius said.

"He won't do anything bad, will he?" Kaylee's voice sounded squeaky worried.

"I can't vouch for that." Lucius tried to stay calm despite all the confusion in his head.

Lucius tried to jog his memory as he went through the first round. Too bad, when he first joined this game, Lucius was only preoccupied with fear. Lucius had not noticed the oddities of anything here.

Now, Lucius couldn't tell if there was any implicit meaning in what the man on the screen said.

Super hero? What kind of superheroes?

"After this, you will have more pleasant perks than the people who weren't chosen. The people you should leave behind... don't think about them."

Oh, right. The people who were left in the city, what happened to them?

Lucius looked around. Several people immediately looked relieved and proud when they found out that they would be getting such fun facilities.

Wait. Why didn't any of them think about their family, friends, or maybe their siblings?

"You may ask anything, as long as—"

Lucius raised his hands while clapping three times.

As a result, the whole room fell silent. Their attention turned to Lucius.

"What happened to the people left in the city?!" Lucius' voice was loud enough for everyone to hear.

The wide smile of the man on the screen instantly faded. No more enthusiasm. For some reason, Lucius noticed the annoyance from the man's furrowed brow.

"—as long as it's not a question about that," continued the mysterious man who ended his talks with a heavy sigh.

Lucius still had a curious expression, he didn't care that everyone in the room was now looking at him strangely.

"Okay, Young Man. I tell you those people, who don't get the same chance as you, are going to living fine if they trying how to survive. They through the same way as you now."

"Through the same way?" Lucius speak so low to himself.

"Next question!"

Lucius know that he can't find the answer, but still, he will do anything to get the answer of everything.
