Chapter 6. Lucius & Some Selected People

Lucius had not yet had time to digest the events that were unfolding.

Before Lucius really understood the meaning of the quest sentence that had just appeared, suddenly someone knocked on his desk twice.

Lucius and Kaylee's attention was raised. Both of them looked up, realizing that someone who had come to their table was the waiter who had delivered their order earlier.

The waiter's face had turned flat, much different than when delivering food. He immediately grabbed Lucius' hand to make Lucius stand up.

"Hey, why are you grabbing my hand?" asked Lucius. Not harsh but firm.

The maid removed the apron she was wearing, showing a name tag.

Lucius read the description of the name tag on the maid's body.

[Colonel John Attreas]

"Colonel?" asked Lucius between surprise and confusion.

John Attreas nodded his head. "You got the message?" he asked.

Lucius was even more confused. He saw another man whose body was more robust approaching Kaylee. The man was wearing army clothes, had a serious face.

"Are you Kaylee? Follow me and our team now," said the man whose name is unknown.

After this man in army uniform entered, six other army men also entered the tavern. The army men did the same: approached some visitors, identified them, chatted for a while, then pulled their hands away.

Lucius froze at the sight in front of him. He heard the voices of family members who didn't want to let go. But the army men were very firm, not wanting to be lured in by the pitiful faces of other family members.

"No! My son! Don't take him away!" an old woman tried to hold the hand of a soldier who was about to pull her child's hand.

"Hey, am I not brought too?" Then a man asked a soldier who pulled his male friend's hand.

"You don't qualify for the people we have to bring in!"

"Sorry, I'll just take people as ordered!" One of the army men answered affirmatively after many people asked.

Lucius watched the crowd in front of his face. The men to whom the army men approached finally gave up. They followed the soldiers away despite the question 'where are they going?' got no answer.

"Lucius," called the man beside Lucius. "Please follow the procedures that have been applied. You must come with us."

Lucius' gaze shifted to Colonel John Attreas. The two of them gave each other a sharp and intense look. Lucius was not intimidated in the least by John Attreas' gaze.

"Where are you going?" This time it was Lucius who asked John Attreas.

John Attreas was silent for a count of five seconds. From his face, it was clear that John didn't want to answer Lucius' question.

"No questions. Come along—"

"I can't go to a place that is not clear," interrupted Lucius replied.

Lucius' firmness made the soldier who was holding Kaylee's hand disturbed. The army man approached Lucius and whispered in his ear.

"You come or you die with the others here?"

Lucius frowned. He asked what the question meant through his confused eyes.

But the army man holding Kaylee's hand didn't answer. He just pulled Kaylee's hand. Because Lucius didn't answer, Kaylee spontaneously held her feet so she wouldn't follow the army men.

"I don't want to come if he doesn't come!" said Kaylee who tried to let go of his hand.

The army man in front of Kaylee tightened his grip even more.

"Follow us," the army man insisted. "There's no other choice. You can't depend on—"

"Indifferent!" Kaylee snapped loudly. "I don't know you, I want it here!"

Because he was furious with Kaylee, the soldier instead used his two hands to force Kaylee. His violent action made Kaylee almost topple forward.

"Hey! What do you mean?!" Lucius automatically raised an irritated voice.

The army man in front of Kaylee gave Lucius a sharp look. "You don't need to interfere. This woman is fighting back and breaking procedure. I would have no qualms about being rude if she wanted to be treated that way."

Lucius gritted his teeth, he was furious. Not only because he saw the soldier's treatment of Kaylee, but also because he was confused about the soldier's question not being answered.

"There's no need to be rude," Lucius insisted. "I'll come. Then he will too."

Kaylee stopped struggling and looked at Lucius in bewilderment.

"Lucius..."

Lucius understood what was on Kaylee's mind. She must have wanted him to refuse, then the two of them would run away.

But Lucius realized, from the incident of the army men who entered, there was something secret that might be related to this game. Lucius gets the chance to repeat the round of the game for a reason.

When running the game the first time, Lucius tries to run. Lucius didn't feel curious to find out if there was a hidden secret or not.

Then he must know the secret by now. Lucius needs to find out, and the only way is to join these army men.

"I'll come Kaylee," Lucius replied firmly.

Kaylee looked lethargic and disappointed. Remain silent for a few minutes, then nod in agreement.

What else she can do?

Then Lucius and Kaylee stepped out with a sense of urgency, following several soldiers who had picked them up. Lucius didn't really remember this incident, when they were forced to pick them up by the soldiers.

During the first half of the game, Lucius was too busy looking for a safe zone. He couldn't fight monsters, so he ended up sneaking into the soldiers' high-tech cars.

Now, Lucius wants to try running a different plot compared to before. He needed to know what would have happened had he not sneaked out.

"You know how my name is Lucius?" Lucius asked John a question—rrr, actually Lucius still didn't expect that the waiter who had placed food and drink for himself was a soldier in disguise—next to him.

With cold eyes, which seemed not interested in answering or talking about anything, John replied, "Some information about the townspeople who have to be picked up has been given by the General Manager of the game."

"General game manager?" Confused, Lucius tried to remember.

Was there any General Manager he had met during the first half?

"General manager, the person in charge of managing everything. There are five General Managers, but one person is the chairman. He is the one who gives the opportunity for selected townspeople to come with us."

John's explanation did nothing to clear Lucius' confusion. But Lucius chose not to say anything more. Because now Lucius just wants to digest everything that happened and recover all his memories.

It seems that Lucius still doesn't have any memories of the past game rounds.
