Chapter 4 Suicide

"Doctor, how is he doing?" The old man's voice trembled as he spoke, his hands gripping the wooden walking stick tightly. He was standing next to the doctor, who was dressed in a crisp white coat, his expression somber as he looked at the young man lying on the hospital bed. The young man's face was ashen, his skin pale and drawn. The beeping of the heart monitor filled the room, the only sound breaking the silence.

"Don't worry old master, he will be fine. Luckily for him, he was saved early, if not…" the doctor didn't continue further but the old man knew what he meant. He clutched his walking stick, if not that he wanted his grandson to avenge himself, he would have taught those stupid people a lesson they would live to tell their generation.

"It's alright doctor, thank God he will be fine." He sighed in relief and turned to the butler, " Butler, please escort the doctor out." The old man instructed his butler. He stared at his long-lost grandson for a while, his was filled with mixed emotions. Pain, regret, happiness…. He sighed in relief and left him.

Shortly after the old man left, Jerome opened his eyes, looked around the unfamiliar room, and became scared. "What is happening? Where am I? Oh, I am in heaven." He mumbled to himself, stood up, and decided to look around.

"Wow, this place is really beautiful. Wow, heaven is amazing. I should have come early. " He said in awe.

" Young master, you are awake." The butler entered and said happily.

"Young master? Wait, have I been given a position in heaven?" He asked naively.

The butler held his mouth to avoid laughing out. Does the young master think he is dead? Such a lovely man. Sorry, this is earth." The butler said with a smile.

"Wait, you mean I am not dead? How come I am still alive?" He said with his mouth wide open.

"No young master, you are still alive." The butler smiled.

"Oh I see, wait and where am I? Why call me a young master?" His face was full of confusion.

"Because you are our young master." He gave him a short answer.

"Huh! I am your young master? Wait, are you sure you have not gotten the wrong person?" He chuckled. He thought of it as a joke because there was no way he was the young master this old man was talking about.

"I am a very sure young master. You can even ask your grandfather."

"My grandfather. I even have a grandfather. Isn't it ridiculous? I became a young master and have gotten a grandfather all of a sudden. I see." He scoffed.

"Please follow me, the old man wants to see you." The butler said and led the way.

Jerome was surprised, looking at how the butler was respectfully speaking to him, he hoped this wouldn't be a dream.

"Please.." the butler said and pointed to the study room where the old master was.

Jerome knocked on the door and he heard the voice of an old man who told him to come in. He was a bit nervous and thought of how to face him. Jerome's heart sank as he saw the old man sitting there, his mind racing to find the right words to say. He couldn't help but feel a sense of awkwardness in the silence that hung in the air between them. His eyes darted around the room, looking for something to say, but everything felt inadequate. Finally, he managed to stammer out, "Hello... sir."

The old man stopped what he was doing and seized him up. His grandson looked exactly like his father. It has been years since his son died, he has always missed him and has always thought of his grandson who suddenly went missing after his mother died.

"My grandson," the old master, after coming back to his senses rushed to him and hugged him happily.

His reaction stunned the surprised Jerome. What is wrong with this man, I am suffocating." He mumbled softly. He didn't want to spoil the old man's mood but since he was suffocating, he had no choice but to tell the old man. "Emm, old man, please you have hugged me tightly.

"Mmm, sorry," the old man who was embarrassedly cleared his throat and let go of him. He was overjoyed and hugged him without any thoughts.

The study room became silent. The old man was feeling awkward and didn't know what to say further.

"So please, how did I become your grandson all of a sudden?" He broke the silence. And can I know more about this family?" Johnson inquired.

"I am old master Cadell, the head of the Cadell family…"

"Wait, you mean you are the old master of the Cadell family? Old man, this isn't funny. The Cadell family is the strongest in America." Out of surprise, Jerome cut him off. Wow, he didn't see this coming.

"My boy, you can satisfy your curiosity by Googling the old master of the Cadell family." He suggested.

"Alright," Jerome nodded. There is no way he is from the Cadell family. "Oh shit." He cursed.

"What is wrong?" The old master asked.

"I don't have a phone." He scratched his head embarrassedly. The Cambridge family took everything away from him when they drove him outside.

"Don't worry. Use this." The old man handed him his phone.

He took the phone and searched. Truly, the old master wasn't lying. He held the phone with his mouth wide open. "The Cadell family? How could this be possible?" He had this thought in his head.

His reaction amused the old master. He tapped his hands on his face to pull him out of his thoughts. "Can you stop dreaming young man?"

"Oh sorry, but I find it hard to believe." He said.

"I gave birth to three children and your father was the youngest and only male. He got married to your mother, but they had miscarriages and finally conceived you. Your father died the day you were born. Your mother had an accident on her way to Canada, and you suddenly went missing. We searched everywhere but couldn't find you. At first, we thought you were dead but we saw no sign of you so we didn't give up and continued to search for you."

"So it doesn't mean my family abandoned me like what happens in novels but they couldn't find me. I see." Jerome had this thought in his mind. He nodded trying to process what had just happened. He was beyond the word surprised.

"But how did they find me? Especially at the moment?"

"We found you a week before you almost committed suicide but we wanted to be sure. After we confirmed you were truly the grandson of the Cadell family, we investigated and learned you were driven out of the family. Luckily for us, we found you early.

"I see." Jerome nodded his head. So it means I am now the young master of this family. Oh, what a miracle." He said with a bright smile. His heart was filled with happiness. This was unexpected.

"Yeah, you are. But my child, no matter what happens, don't take your life . Nobody knows tomorrow. If we hadn't arrived early and had been a step behind, we would have lost you and wouldn't have found your family. If you want to be a hero, then you should be bold and fight a good battle. Just do your best and let God do the rest. Never in your life, must you think of such a thing. Don't see the darkness to be an obstacle to you but it should be an opportunity to see the stars.
