Chapter 43 The evidence
An hour later, the doctor came to inform Jerome that Eleanor was awake. He went to her ward and saw her staring at the ceiling.

"Thank God, you are finally awake." He sat beside her bed and held her hands happily.

"Jerome," Eleanor called out. Her complexion was better, and her tone wasn't that weak.

"Yes," Jerome responded in a gentle tone.

"Even after leaving that house, they still wouldn't let me be. Because I was sold to them, they don't think of me as human. Why is it that way?" Tears welled up in her eyes as she complained bitterly. To them, she was nothing but an object that could be bought with money.

"Don't worry, I wouldn't let anyone hurt you again. They will pay for it. And who said you belong to them? You are on your own. You belong to only God and nothing else, okay." Jerome's tone made her feel better.

"Thank you very much. Thank you for always saving me." She held his hands and said sincerely.

"Don't thank me. This is nothing. All thanks be to God."
