Chapter Four

Cassie's anger simmered as she left her house, feeling undervalued by her husband. What the hell does he think he is? He's just a useless live in son in law. What right does he have to make her feel that way?

However, she refused to let his negativity get the better of her. Living with him all this while, Cassie was growing immune to his antics.

With a deep breath, she drove to the Plaza hotel to meet Brandon, as previously arranged. That should be her objective now, not that annoying husband o hers.

As she parked her car and handed the keys to the valet, Cassie gazed up at the hotel's imposing structure and the bustling crowd. Indeed, it was built for wealthy people.

She let out a sigh, hoping Brandon would be able to help her resolve the issues plaguing her father's company. The last thing she wanted was for her grandfather to take control away from her and hand it over to her cousin Thomas, who would stop at nothing to sabotage her success.

"What a bunch of crazy people I have in my famn family!" Cassie lamented inwardly.

Under normal circumstances, Cassie would never have considered meeting someone outside of her marriage at a hotel. But desperate times called for desperate measures. And she had no choice but to meet with Brandon.

As she entered the hotel, Cassie couldn't help but think of her useless husband, and a low groan escaped her lips.

"I hope he won't cause trouble in my absence." She thought.

After obtaining Brandon's room number, she made her way to the door, her nerves on edge. Was it wise to meet Brandon here? Why had he chosen a hotel room instead of a more public venue?

Nevertheless, she cast away her worry and

knocked on the door. She waiting for what felt like an eternity for it to open.

But to her surprise, it wasn't Brandon who greeted her. Instead, it was John, one of Brandon's friends, with a girl clinging to his arm. The situation couldt be more obvious than it seemed.

Cassie's shock was palpable - she wondered if she had mistakenly knocked on the wrong door.

John's gaze roamed over Cassie's body, making her feel uneasy and exposed. She forced a greeting, trying to hide her discomfort frm the pervert in front of her.

"Hello, John. I think I must have gotten the wrong room. Excuse me." Cassie with a forced smile and tried to leave.

But before she could make a quick exit, John blocked her path, his smile and lingering gaze making her skin crawl. "Oh, don't worry, Cassie. This is the right room. You did come here to meet someone, didn't you? Come on, he's in!"

With a flourish, John ushered Cassie into the room, his fake bow only adding to her growing unease.

Despite her reservations, she nodded curtly and clutched her handbag tightly before entering. Her guts told her to make a run for it and leave there. However, what will happen to hr father's company then?

As she stepped inside, Cassie was taken aback to find not only Brandon, but two other men and two women as well, sitting in a comprised position.

"Uhm... hi Brandon," she said, her tone polite but firm. "I'm not sure this is the best place to discuss business. Would it be possible to go to the nearby restaurant? I think we could have a more productive conversation there."

But Brandon was unmoved, inviting her to sit beside him instead. "Come now, Cassie, trust me. This room is perfect for our discussion. Let me show you some designs I have in mind. You'll find it quite...enlightening." He smiled, his hand extended in a gesture of hospitality.

Cassie's discomfort was palpable, but she knew she had to push through. Her father's company depended on this meeting, after all. So, she took a deep breath and sat down beside Brandon, pulling out the documents she had prepared earlier. She just wanted to get it done with.

But before they could begin, Brandon handed her a wine glass, suggesting they take a moment to relax and toast to their meeting.

"Come on, Cassie! Relax... let's enjoy the food and wine first before we get to business. We can't disrespect food, right?" Brandon said with a smile which made goosebumps appeared on Cassie's skin.

Cassie hesitated, but the others were already cheering and clinking their glasses together. She reluctantly took a sip, feeling a sense of unease wash over her.

As soon as she'd finished her glass, Cassie pressed on, eager to get the meeting underway.

However, Brandon refused all her attempts to talk about business. Cassie became fed up when she realized Brandon wasn't ready to help.

She felt angry and stupid. But she still maintained her composure and decided to leave.

"I really have to get going," she said, glancing at her watch. "It's getting late, and I'm married. It wouldn't be wise for me to be seen in a hotel with someone other than my husband. Shall we please just review the documents and finalize everything sme other day?" She said as she started putting the documents back into her hand bag.

The room fell silent after her words, and then, without warning, everyone erupted into laughter.

Cassie's face burned with embarrassment, knowing they were mocking her husband, a man known for his uselessness.

It's common knowledge that Cassie's husband is considered a complete failure among everyone who knows him.

Joshua, a friend of Brandon's, sneered, "Cassie, you're a stunning woman, and you don't deserve to be tied down to a nobody like him. I'm surprised you even mention him in front of Brandon. Are you that clueless or pretending to be a fool?"

Rider, another friend, chimed in, his tone dripping with sarcasm, "Yeah, Cassie, you shouldn't be talking about your useless husband here, especially when your company is going through a crisis. What has he done for you, anyway? Nothing, right? Brandon is the only one who can help you now, so you're just making him jealous by bringing up your husband. Don't pretend that you don't know his feelings for you?"
