After Alex finished his usual kitchen chores, he left the house. The constant nagging from his mother in law was driving him to insane and he nothing but to be far away from the chaotic dynamics in the home.
He went to a nearby store and bought cigarettes before heading back home, but rather than entering the house, he chose to sit beneath a large tree just right outside th house. He lit his cigarette and exhaled clouds of smoke. Memories that he had desperately attempted to suppress began flooding his thoughts. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't push them away. The pain was so intense that it made his heart ache. Looking up at the starlit sky, he muttered the names of his fallen companions—names he had buried deep within his heart. No one was aware of his true identity, and he wasn’t prepared to expose it. The only other person who knew who he really was, aside from him, was that old doctor who had saved him when he was on the brink of death. Alex then began listing the names of all his deceased comrades. "I promise you all, soon, very soon, I shall avenge your deaths with the blood of our enemies," he vowed. "They stole your lives, and I shall exact revenge upon them in the most agonizing manner possible. Just hold on a bit longer; after I finish everything, I swear I will join you. In the end, we can continue our mission in the underworld." He felt a deep sorrow as he spoke to the sky. Suddenly, his phone rang. He opted to ignore it, as he was overwhelmed with emotions, lost in thoughts of his fallen friends and painful memories. He wanted to hold onto those memories, for the anguish fueled his quest for vengeance. However, the persistent ringing eventually compelled him to answer the call. "Hello, who is this?" he said, his voice steady. "Hello... Alex! Save me!" Upon hearing his wife's frantic tone on the other end, filled with worry and exhaustion, Alex felt a frown form as he struggled to find the right words. Just as he was about to respond to her plea, he heard a loud crash as someone stumbled. "Can you hear me? Hello, Cassie? Are you there? Please talk to me, Cassie!" Alex continued to call out to his wife, hoping for a reply, even though he knew the call had ended. Realizing the gravity of the situation, he swiftly dashed inside to search for his sister-in-law Janet and mother-in-law Gloria. Alex immediately found them in the hall as they watched television. In a panicked tone, he turned to Gloria and asked, "Where is Cassie? What happened to her? Where in the world did she go? Janet, seated higher up from the TV, shot him a frosty glance. "Why do you care?" she replied coldly. "You’re questioning us now after she's gone? I thought you didn't care!" She said sarcastically. Gloria chose to dismiss Alex entirely and turned her face back to the screen. The TV show was more important to her than her useless son in law. Frustrated, Alex confronted his sister-in-law Janet with the more intensity now. "Janet, please tell me, where did your sister go? Did she tell you any details about where she as going? Just spill it out!" he insisted, his frustration increasing. If anything happens to Cassie, he would never be able to forgive himself. He owe that to the old man who aved him. "Let me ask you, Alex, do you have a wife who would rather seek help from someone because her husband is a piece of trash?," Janet responded disrespectfully. "What do you expect? You used to say she wasn't beautiful and that you didn't care about her. So, what is it now that has you searching for her? What’s your angle? Why look for my sister when she’s finally trying to better herself?" Realizing he wouldn't gain any information from them, Alex glanced around desperately until his gaze fell upon a vibrant flower vase. Without hesitation, he rushed over to it and, after picking it up, smashed it onto the floor, shattering it into pieces. "What the hell is wrong with you, Alex? Have you lost your mind? Why would you do something like that? That was an expensive gift that a friend bought for me. Do you think you can afford such a vase? You can’t even take care of your own needs, and yet you want to destroy my belongings? How dare you!" Gloria shouted, furiously pointing a finger at him. "Save it, Gloria! I’m not interested in your insults now," Alex retorted, glaring back at her. If there was thing everyone was aware of, then it's Alex unyielding nature. "Cassie just called me and said she’s in danger. I have no clue where she went or how to reach her. But before I could ask her more information, the call ended abruptly, and now I’m here asking for you where the fuck she went to. It’s not my life at stake; it’s your daughter’s life, Gloria, not mine," Alex said angrily. He had reached his limit with both his mother-in-law and sister-in-law. Had it not been for the promise he made to the old doctor to marry Cassie and protect his family for a period of time, he would have left this household long ago. "Oh, stop with the lies, Alex. Do you think we're fools? My sister called you for help you say? Why should she reach out to you instead of calling me or mom? Enough with the theatrics. Do you need money for something? Is that why you're putting on this show for us?" Janet replied rudely as she crossed her arms defensively. Alex tried to hold in his anger and frustration as he pointed... "Check if she called you on your phone, and here's the number she used to reach out to me. Compare it to the number you might see on your phone and fucking see if they match" Alex told her and unlock his phone before he threw it down at their feet in frustration. Janet and Gloria exchanged glances before both picked up their phones. They checked and noticed several missed calls, which made them feel slightly anxious. They retrieved Alex's phone from the floor and compared the numbers against the one that called them, confirming it was indeed the same. Without wasting any time, Gloria rushed over to Alex. "What did my daughter tell you? She's in danger! From whom?" Alex could see the fear in Gloria's eyes and chose not to dwell on the harsh words she had thrown at him earlier. Alex rubbed his forehead in frustration as he recounted what had happened with the phone call from Cassie. "I truly don't know what's happening, but when I heard her voice, I sensed something was off. That’s not how Cassie usually sounds. She seemed incoherent or dizzy, or something along those lines. I’m uncertain about the situation, but the fact that she called all of us for help suggests something significant is wrong. That’s why I came to ask you guys where she went. We need to reach her immediately; it could be a matter of life or death." Alx said exasperated. "Plaza hotel... that's where went to meet Brandon to help our company." Janet said with a trembling voice. "Please, bring my daughter home safely," Michael suddenly appeared and pleaded with Alex. Out of the blue, Michael handed his car keys to Alex, who took them and dashed out of the house. There was no time to linger and hear what his mother-in-law had to say about the urgency. He was determined to save Cassie regardless, a promise he made to the old doctor to safeguard his family. Driving at full speed while skillfully avoiding traffic, Alex soon arrived at the Plaza Hotel. After handing over his car keys to the valet, he faced a challenge entering the hotel. He couldn't simply walk in and demand to see Brandon; it was unlikely they would comply. In that moment, an idea struck him. He approached the reception and, adopting an expression he hoped conveyed urgency, began to speak. "Good evening, ma'am. My name is Alex, and I'm here to see Brandon Winifred. He's a friend of my wife and invited both of us here. I was occupied outside, so I sent my wife in first. Could you please let me know his room number? I believe I may have arrived a bit late. Also, before you ask, my phone is dead since I couldn't charge it." Alex flashed the receptionist a warm smile, making her heart skip a beat. Let’s set aside the old clothes that he wore and the beard that almost obscured his face. Despite his current appearance, it was clear to everyone that Alex was indeed quite handsome. Enchanted by Alex's charm, the receptionist didn't pause to call Brandon’s room for verification. She quickly found Brandon's information and gave it to Alex. "He's in room 209 on the top floor," the receptionist informed him. Alex responded with a grin and even winked at her, causing her to blush. However, as Alex walked away from the young receptionist, his smile vanished, replaced by a stern frown that made him look like a soldier heading into battle. Before long, after taking the elevator to Brandon's floor, he approached the room only to find four bodyguards stationed at the entrance. As he attempted to walk past them, they blocked his path. Yet Alex didn’t engage in conversation; he raised his gaze, and in an instant, all four sturdy bodyguards were on the ground, groaning in pain from his swift actions. They didn't even know when he started to move. All the felt was pain after the landed on the floor. Having easily dealt with the bodyguards, Alex knocked on the door though he badly wanted to break it down. Lacking a key card, he can only relied on someone inside to let him in, knowing that even an attempt to break the door wouldn’t work. "Who's there? Can't you see we're busy? Didn't we tell you not to disturb us?" a voice inside barked.Without responding, Alex continued to knock quietly. It wasn’t long before the irritation of those inside escalated, prompting one of them to come forward and open the door."I instructed you not to..." the person began, but was abruptly cut off as Alex dealt a swift blow to his face, sending him stumbling backward as blood gushed out from his nose. Then, the door swung wide open, allowing Alex to enter freely. Once inside, Alex’s demeanor hardened, and he clenched his fists as he surveyed the unfolding scene, a deep scowl etched on his face.Alex observed his wife clutching a shattered bottle, her hands directed toward Brandon and his friends. Her palms were smeared with blood from her wounds, and blood trickled from the corners of her lips, while her face appeared puffed, suggesting she had endured multiple slaps. The dress on her shoulders also bore cuts, slightly exposing her cleavage. Her gaze seemed disoriented as she gestured wildly with the bottle, lacking any precise target
Alex and Cassie descended from the top floor, relief washing over them as they reached the reception area. Both of them were grateful that a horrible calamity had been avoided. Cassie wouldn't have been able to live with her self if her innocence was violated. Thus, she was immensely grateful to her so called useless husband for his timely intervention. However, their ordeal was far from over, though. The plush carpets and polished marble seemed to fade into the background as they faced a new challenge. Alex carried Cassie in his arms as he came out of the elevator. Some of the people enterng and leaving screamed when they saw how bloody Cassie's hands and and shrieked away. The receptionist who helped Alex to find Brandon's room was mortified. Jus what the hell happened on the last floor. Did she do wrong by sending the strange man up there? Will she be fired? Just as Alex was about to exit the hotel, a number of large bodyguards entered the premises and blocked his
Alex took Cassie home, the silence between them palpable. It seemd they were both lost in their own thoughts, not bothering with each other. As they drove home, no one spoke to each other. They just silently in the car.Alex seemed completely unbothered by the silence, his eyes fixed on the road ahead as he drove. But Cassie had a lot going on inside her head. She stole glances at Alex from time to time, trying to read his expression. But Alex completely ignored her, his face a mask of indifference. It seemed that he didn't care about her presence in the car with him.Cassie felt a bit sad inwardly that Alex was ignoring her. She had grown accustomed to his aloofness, but it still stung. It wasn't like their relationship was great as husband and wife. No! On the contrary, they've never been close. In fact, it seemed they didn't care about each other. They were only married couple in the eyes of the public. But privately, they are more like strangers.... No! They are like enemies bec
PROLOGUE:It was a stormy day. The heavy raindrops were back music for a scene of utter devastation. The air was thick with the heavy smell of dust and blood, an unpleasant mix that hung heavy over the battlefield.Bodies lay scattered, battered by the relentless rain, the majority belonging to their enemies, but a significant number were their own comrades, fallen members of the Falcon Team. Two survivors, Alexander and Cassandra, huddled behind a broken pole, using it as a protective shield to protect themselves from the onslaught of guns. Both were badly injured, but Alexander's wounds were more severe, a testament to his selfless act of shielding Cassandra from harm. What was meant to be a routine mission had turned into a bloodbath, with most of their team members cut down before they could even begin their operation. It was clear that their hideout had been betrayed, allowing their enemies to launch a surprise attack that killed almost all of their comrades. But who was respon
Alex was jolted awake by a sudden splash of water on his face."What the fuck!" he cursed.Groggily, he opened his eyes to find his mother-in-law, Gloria, standing beside his bed, her face twisted in anger."What's gotten into you, Gloria?" Alex demanded, wiping the water from his face. "You could've woken me up without resorting to this."Gloria shot back, her sarcasm dripping like venom, "Oh, good evening to you too, Your Highness. It's almost midnight, in case you didn't know."Alex's eyes narrowed, his anger simmering just below the surface.Gloria, however, remained unimpressed. She thought to herself that her son-in-law was nothing like the charming, obedient men she'd seen in novels and on TV.No, Alex was a force to be reckoned with, his pride and ego was like a mountain.Despite his face full of unshaven beard, Gloria had to admit that Alex was a handsome man if only he'd shave and present himself properly. But that was beside the point. The real issue was that he'd somehow
"Why is everyone so angry? I just told the truth. Cassie is a natural beauty. But with all that makeup, well, that isn't what I call beauty," Alex said, still maintaining his innocent face. It wasn't until then that the women realized the reason behind his hurtful comment about Cassie's appearance. It wasn't because Cassie wasn't beautiful, but rather due to the excessive makeup she had applied, making her look 'Ugly' according to Alex. This revelation brought a sense of relief that it wasn't a personal attack from Alex, yet Cassie still felt discomfort at the harsh words. Just then, Michael spoke up, "I think Alex is right, Cassie. You might have overdone it with the makeup. I prefer your natural look, it's more beautiful that way." Cassie lowered her head and didn't say anything to her father. Gloria shot her husband a cold glance, but he seemed oblivious. She couldn't understand why he always supported Alex, even when the rest of the family disagreed with his marriage to
Cassie's anger simmered as she left her house, feeling undervalued by her husband. What the hell does he think he is? He's just a useless live in son in law. What right does he have to make her feel that way? However, she refused to let his negativity get the better of her. Living with him all this while, Cassie was growing immune to his antics. With a deep breath, she drove to the Plaza hotel to meet Brandon, as previously arranged. That should be her objective now, not that annoying husband o hers.As she parked her car and handed the keys to the valet, Cassie gazed up at the hotel's imposing structure and the bustling crowd. Indeed, it was built for wealthy people. She let out a sigh, hoping Brandon would be able to help her resolve the issues plaguing her father's company. The last thing she wanted was for her grandfather to take control away from her and hand it over to her cousin Thomas, who would stop at nothing to sabotage her success."What a bunch of crazy people I have in
Cassie felt a surge of anxiety as she glanced at Brandon, aware that her friends were trying to provoke him. She knew they wanted to belittle her husband in front of Brandon, making her realize that Brandon was the better choice for her.Brandon intervened, "You guys should stop. Cassie came here for business, so let's not bring her husband into this. I used to have feelings for Cassie in college, and I still do, but she's married now, and I have to respect that." He said somehow a bit annoyed with his friends. Cassie looked at Brandon with gratitude, surprised by his wise words. But suddenly, she felt a wave of dizziness wash over her. Her body began to feel light, and everything around her became blurry. She tried to shake off the fogginess, but it was no use. She decided to excuse herself to use the bathroom, hoping a splash of water on her face would help."Excuse me, I'm not feeling well. May I use the bathroom?" she asked Brandon politely.Brandon's response was laced with conc
