Everyone in the street and the neighbors around the Golds mansion had all come out, staring at the convoy that just drove out of there.

This was the first time such a sophisticated convoy had driven up here to the estate.

Most of them were forced to believe that it was Mr. Jake who was handed such a convoy in honor of his new promotion in the military.

There was an awkward silence that swept through the car. Alex, who was seated next to him, was unsure what to say, but he knew that Kyle was definitely dealing with a lot of emotions at the moment.

Kyle had his gaze fixed on the scenery outside the car, his cold gaze that seemed to follow every tree that passed by like it held the answer he was searching for.

“How did it go?” He suddenly asked, seeing that Kyle wasn't ready to speak. Kyle had his gaze staring outside the car, a blank expression on his face.

“Just as expected, Mr. Hales was right all this while”

“So what are you going to do now?”

“We are going to start the investigation properly and find out what happened to my sister And father, but first I need some information regarding her husband”

His voice was cold, laced with danger and a mixture of anger. Although he had been informed beforehand regarding Anna's marriage, it was so difficult for him to believe any of it.

Rewinding the scene that had occurred, his heart was fuming with rage; no doubt that he wanted his revenge, but he knew it had to be slow and sink through their heart properly.

“I already worked on that, he is the son of a high-rank military officer, surgery Jonathan Clifford, his son Jake just got promoted to the third military rank and it will be official by tomorrow with the seal handed to him”

Alex explained, his fingers scrolling through the iPad he held as he explained.

“Get me a seat at that event, Mr. Paul thinks he knows how this game is played, well let's show him who owns the game”

He ordered, and after that, there was an intense silence that swept through all the way back.

The convoy finally came to a halt in front of a large estate, Kyle had spent four years building this place and Planning his return, now he was back and he was back for revenge, with all the powers he had gained, he was ready to put all those that hurt his family back to where they belong.

The next morning, Kyle was woken by a light ray of sunshine that reflected on his eyes, he struggled to shield himself away from the sunlight with his hands as a voice finally pulled him over.

“Good morning boss! Today is the promotion event of Mr. Jake Clifford, I don't think you have much time to sleep”

Alex reminded him; Kyle felt like he was right; he stretched out himself as he pulled away from the bed, walking over to the window before Alex went ahead and offered him his usual black and bitter coffee void of any form of sugar.

“How is the investigation going?” Kyle asked, staring blankly at the view from his window. He could see most parts of Harper City, but most especially, he was able to get his gaze on the Gold family empire; they were his number one target, and Kyle wanted to be reminded of that at all times.

“There is something that you need to see.” Alex pulled out a picture from the file he was holding and drifted closer to Kyle; that way, he was able to view the picture vividly.

“This picture was taken the same day your father died, he had met with Mr. Paul on that same day”

Alex explained, Kyle quickly grabbed the picture, staring intensely at him.

“Why would Mr. Paul meet with my father, what business could they have?”

“I am still working on that, but according to the witness that had taken the picture, they had a heated conversation before Mr. Paul left”

He explained, This time, Kyle was finally getting his theory piece by piece.

“Alright, find out more about this, for now, I need to get dressed and grace the Gold family with my presence on this special day”

A devious smirk spread through Kyle's lips while he thought about his plans.

On the bed was a luxurious suit Alex had prepared for him; Kyle glanced briefly at it before heading for the shower.

But once he was done having his bath, he totally ignored the suit on the bed, going for a more casual shirt and plain trousers, his ID card tucked inside his pocket, and with that, he was ready to leave.

Kyle had gone to the promotion ceremony with just one car; at the door to the event were some junior officers guiding the place; the moment he presented his ID card to them, their gaze went wild.

“Shade….. shade….” They gasped, their lips unable to shut as they trembled in fear.

Shade was a famous name in the military, known for his brutal way of handling issues; although many officers were famous with the name, very few were the only ones who had been able to put a face on it.

As the door swung open with the junior officers bowing their heads nervously at him, His gaze went straight to Anna; she stood in the middle of the hall, entertaining her guests.

Next to her was Jake, who was meant to receive the promotion today; his hand was wrapped fully around her waist, and both had a wide smile on their face.

Seeing this scenario before him, Kyle clenched his fist hard; it was difficult for him to believe that this was the woman that he had gone to jail for and went through all the pain he had to endure.

The warm smile on her face had instantly disappeared the moment her gaze locked with Kyle.

Without wasting much time, she ignores the guest she was chatting with and hurriedly stride towards Kyle.

“What the hell are you doing here and how the hell did you get in here?” She asked furiously, yet he could tell she was tensed as her gaze was darting around like she was afraid to be seen with a man like him.

“I am here to witness the promotion of a lieutenant, or am I not allowed to be here?”

“What would you even know about being a lieutenant, you are just a low-life ex-convict, I don't know what kind of tricks you played to be able to get in here, but you need to leave right now or I will have to send the guards to do that”

She sneered as she said those words, yet she was barely audible; that way, she couldn't be heard by others.

Her words had sunk deeply into his heart, yet Kyle was forced to endure the pain; this was the same woman who had made so many promises to him, yet he could not believe that it was going to be easy for her to let go like that.

“Anna! How dare you speak to me in such a manner, or are you so quick to forget everything that I did for you?”

He asked but she waved her hands dismissively at him as she rolled her eyes.

“I know what you are doing here, Kyle; this is some sort of a trick to get a huge amount of money from my family, so just go ahead and make your price; how much do I need to give you to have you out of my life for good?”

“You have nothing to give me”

He expressed calmly; just then, Jake hurriedly walked over to them, his face scrunched up in an impatient frown.

“What the hell is he doing here, are you both trying to ruin this important day for me?”

He asked anxiously the moment he was standing next to Anna.

Kyle had a disdainful, smug on his lips. He knew how important this day was for any military man, and he seemed to be enjoying the moment, putting them in a compromising situation.

“I have no idea, he just got in here”

“Then get rid of him, we can't afford your ex-convict ex coming here and ruining this day for me”

“I know and I will get rid of him right now!” He assured him, and as soon as Jake walked away from there, hurrying to go pay some compliments to his guest, Anna turned her attention to Kyle again.

“This is your last chance; get out of here, or I will be forced to call the security!”

She threatened, but her words seemed to have no effect on him; rather, he strides over to the other side of the hall, taking a seat with his legs crossed.

Anna clenched her jaws furiously. It felt like she was about to explode, especially knowing what was on the line, so she immediately called for the assistant of the securities.

“Have this man thrown out right away!” She ordered but as they walked towards him, they froze right there, drifting back on their steps.
