Chapter 145
Derrick stepped into the sleek, glass-walled conference room, his eyes scanning the gathering of suits and ties. His manager, Tom, nodded in greeting, handing him a steaming cup of coffee.

"Morning, sir. Are you ready for this?" Tom asked, his voice low and smooth.

Derrick took a sip of the coffee, feeling the caffeine kick in. "As ready as I'll ever be, Tom. Let's get this show on the road."

The meeting was a blur of PowerPoint presentations and financial reports, Derrick's mind wandering as the speakers droned on. But when the board president took the stage, Derrick's attention snapped back into focus.

"...and that's why we need to finalize the Johnson account by the end of the quarter, Derrick," the board president said, his eyes locked onto Derrick's. "Can you make that happen?"

Derrick nodded, his mind racing with the implications. "Absolutely, sir. I'll make sure it's done."

Tom whispered in his ear as they left the conference room. "You okay, sir? You look a little pale."
