Chapter 29

Derrick went into his room, trying to compose himself before he had to face the day. He took a shower, got dressed, and then sat down to eat breakfast. He tried to focus on the present moment, to clear his mind of all the negative thoughts that were swirling around. He knew that he needed to be focused and alert for work, and he couldn't afford to let his personal life interfere. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't stop thinking about Ruby and their argument.

Ruby entered the kitchen, and Derrick tried to pretend that everything was fine. She sat down across from him, and they ate their breakfast in silence. The tension was thick, and neither of them knew what to say. They were both running late, so they quickly finished their food and got ready to leave.

"Have a good day at work," Ruby said as they headed out the door.

"You too," Derrick replied, his voice sounding strained.

They both knew that this wasn't the end of the conversation, but they couldn't deal with it right
