Chapter 5

Derrick stood in the hallway, his mind reeling from the revelation he had just heard. He couldn't believe that Michael, the man who had been his ex-wife's husband, was also the brother of his contracted wife, Ruby.

It was a bizarre twist of fate, and he couldn't help but feel like it was somehow connected to the curse that had been placed on him.

But how could that be? He tried to make sense of it all, but it was like trying to untangle a knot of string. Nothing seemed to make sense, and he felt like he was being pulled in a million different directions. Derrick lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling.

The situation with Ruby and Michael was like a puzzle that he couldn't solve. But one thing was clear - he had to help Ruby. Not only because she had been kind to him, but because he knew that Michael was bad news. If he got control of the company, who knew what he would do? Derrick couldn't let that happen.

He closed his eyes, trying to clear his head. But sleep evaded him, and he tossed and turned, his mind racing. Finally, he sat up, his resolve hardened. Derrick got out of bed and went to his desk. He pulled out a pen and paper and began to make a plan.

He would start by digging up as much information as he could about Michael and the company. He would do whatever it took to help Ruby and make sure that her brother didn't get control of the company.

He wasn't sure how long it would take or what obstacles he would face, but he was determined to see it through. This was his chance to make things right, and he wasn't going to waste it.

The next morning, Derrick pulled up to the impressive glass and steel building that housed Ruby's company. He took a deep breath and walked through the doors.

The reception area was sleek and modern, with a large marble desk and a bank of elevators behind it. A uniformed woman sat behind the desk, and she looked up as he approached.

"Can I help you?" she asked, her voice polite but firm.

Derrick cleared his throat and held out the contract. "I'm here to submit this."

The receptionist took the contract from Derrick's hand and examined it. She raised an eyebrow, then looked up at him.

"I'm afraid I'll need to see some identification," she demanded.

Derrick pulled out his driver's license and handed it to her. The receptionist looked at it, then back at him, clearly puzzled.

"I'm sorry, but I don't see your name on the approved list," she said, frowning.

"Probably it'll be at the special list, check it out" Derrick replied.

The receptionist's eyes widened as she looked at the list again. Sure enough, there was Derrick's name, at the very top of the list. It was clear that he was someone very important to the company. The receptionist quickly handed the contract and driver's license back to Derrick.

"I'm so sorry for the confusion," she apologized, bowing her head slightly. "Please, take the elevator to the top floor."

Derrick nodded and headed to the elevator, a sense of excitement and anticipation growing within him. He had a feeling that this was going to be the beginning of something big.

The elevator doors opened onto a spacious, high-ceilinged lobby, with a sweeping view of the city below. A uniformed man stood behind a desk, and he nodded at Derrick as he stepped out of the elevator.

"Welcome," he greeted, his voice deep and resonant. "Please, follow me."

Derrick followed the man through the lobby and down a hallway, their footsteps echoing on the marble floor. The walls were lined with photographs of the company's founders and current executives. At the end of the hallway was a set of double doors, and the man stopped in front of them.

The man knocked on the door, and a voice from within called, "Come in."

The man opened the door, revealing a large, airy office with a wall of windows. A woman sat behind a desk, and she looked up as they entered.

She had a commanding presence, and Derrick felt a bit intimidated. But she smiled warmly at him and motioned for him to sit in the chair across from her.

"Hello, Mr. Derrick," she said, her voice warm and welcoming. "It's a pleasure to meet you and I'm sorry if that startled you," the woman said, sensing his confusion. Ms. Ruby was very impressed by your credentials, and she spoke very highly of you. She was eager for you to join our team."

Derrick felt a sense of pride well up within him. He had worked hard to get where he was, and it was gratifying to know that his efforts had paid off. He sat up straighter in his chair, determined to make a good impression.

"Thank you, Ms....?" he paused, realizing that he didn't know her name.

"My name is Veronica," the woman said, her smile widening. "I'm the chief operating officer of this company, and I'm delighted to have you join us. I'm sure you'll be a valuable asset."

Veronica's words filled Derrick with a sense of purpose and determination. He was determined to prove himself, to show that he was more than just a name on a piece of paper. He was here to make a difference, to leave his mark on the world.

"Thank you, Veronica," he replied, his voice steady and confident.

After submitting the contract, he went over to the court. He needed to sign the last papers and formalize the divorce.

Derrick walked down the hallway, his mind racing. He was relieved to be finally putting his divorce behind him. It had been a long and difficult process, but he knew it was for the best. He was ready to move on, to start a new chapter in his life.

He arrived at the court, and the clerk greeted him with a smile. He signed the paperwork, officially ending his marriage. He felt a weight lifted off his shoulders, and he couldn't help but feel a sense of freedom and hope for the future. He left the court and stepped out into the sunlight, a new man.

Derrick walked through the front doors of the company's headquarters, his heart pounding in his chest. He was nervous, but also excited. He was ready to begin his work for the day. Today marked his two weeks at work and the past few days have being a really nice experience working at the E&T company.

He walked up to the receptionist's desk, to take his pass. She greeted him warmly, and showed him the pass. Derrick took his pass and went over to his office, wearing a bright smile on his face. He sat down at his desk, taking in the view of the city below. He took a deep breath, and turned on his computer.

He was ready to begin. Derrick's first day had been a whirlwind of activity. He met his co-workers, learned about the company's mission, and got up to speed on the projects he would be working on. But now, all he just had to do was work.

Closing hour had come, and all worker's of E&T had to go back to their various homes. As Derrick left the office, he felt a sense of accomplishment. He had survived his hetic day, and he felt like he had found his place.

He looked forward to coming back the next day, ready to dive in and make a difference. As he drove home, he thought about his journey.

Derrick walked into the office the next day, feeling confident and ready to go. But as he made his way to his desk, he noticed that something was off. People were whispering and looking at him oddly. He tried to ignore it, but he couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.

Finally, one of his co-workers pulled him aside. "Hey, Derrick," she whispered to him, her voice low. "I don't know how to tell you this, but... there's something you should know."

Derrick felt his heart sink. What could it be?

"Derrick, we traced the IP address of the computer that was used to access the company's financial system," the co-worker paused, her voice hesitant. "And it led to your computer."

Derrick felt like the ground had been pulled out from under him. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. There was no way he could have done this - he had nothing to do with the missing money. But he knew that proving his innocence would be an uphill battle.

"You're wrong," he replied, his voice cracking. "I didn't do this. You have to believe me." He pleaded.

Ruby stepped in in front of Derrick, her voice was cold and businesslike, the exact opposite of the warmth he had experienced when he first met her.

"Derrick, I'm afraid we're going to have to let you go," she said, her expression hard. "I'm sorry, but this is company policy. We take any sign of financial misconduct very seriously. Your contract have been terminated."

Derrick couldn't believe what was happening. He had been set up, and he had no way to prove his innocence. He felt like his world was crashing down around him.

"Please," Derrick's voice came pleading. "I didn't do this. I swear."

Ruby Immediately turned and left, leaving Derrick there. Derrick watched Ruby walk away, he knew there was nothing he could do. He felt helpless and alone, and he had no idea what to do next.

Ruby's personal secretary came over to him and informed him that his credit cards have been cut out. His credit card was cut off, and he was left with nothing. He had lost his job, his peace, and everything he had worked for. He felt like a failure, like he had let everyone down.

As he stood there, lost and alone, he heard a voice from behind him.

"This is why one should never trust low class people"

"He likes leeching off people" A young lady commented.

"What a disgrace" A young man spat.

People were whispering and pointing at him as he walked out of the building. He felt their stares burning into his skin, and he wished he could just disappear. But there was no escape. He was being accused of something he didn't do, and everyone believed it.

He got into his car and drove away, tears streaming down his face. He felt like his life was over. He had no job, no money, and no future. He didn't know how he would ever recover from this.As he drove, he thought about all the people who had believed the worst of him.

Derrick was still reeling from the day's events when he got a call from an unknown number. His heart skipped a beat as he listened to the caller announce that there had been a gruesome accident at a construction site. A man had fallen from the roof of a building, and the caller identified the victim as Derrick's father.

Derrick pulled over to the side of the road, feeling numb. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. His father had an accident, how!. He felt like he had hit rock bottom.

"But sir, The issue is tha........." The caller stuttered.

"Stop the suspense and talk to me!" Derrick yelled over the phone.

"Your father died from the fall" the caller reported.

"What! My father died?"
