Chapter 4

It was early morning, and the first rays of sunlight were beginning to creep through the curtains of the luxurious bedroom. Derrick slowly opened his eyes, not quite sure where he was.

The previous day was a blur. He remembered being in his rundown apartment, and then... a flash of white light. And now, he was here, in this beautiful room.

As he sat up in bed, he noticed a figure standing in the corner of the room. It was the mysterious woman who had saved him from his life of misery, Ruby. She was staring at him, a look of concern on her face.

"Good morning," ruby greeted."Please, make yourself at home. You can ask any of the servants for anything you need. They are here to serve you."

Derrick was still a bit stunned by his new surroundings. He had never been in a home like this before, with servants at his beck and call. It felt strange, almost surreal. But he knew that Ruby was right - he should make himself comfortable. After all, this was his new life.

"Thank you," Derrick appreciated, his voice still a bit hesitant. "I... I'm not used to this" he muttered.

After the conversation, Ruby left the room, leaving Derrick alone with his thoughts. He looked around the room, taking in the rich fabrics and the expensive furniture. He felt a mix of emotions - excitement, trepidation, and a bit of fear. This was all so new to him, and he wasn't sure what to make of it.

But he also knew that this was an opportunity he couldn't pass up. He had been given a chance to start over, to have a new life. And he was determined to make the most of it. He explored the house, he was struck by the sheer opulence of it all.

There were marble floors, chandeliers, and artwork that looked like it belonged in a museum. The furniture was exquisite, and the kitchen was a chef's dream. Even the bathrooms were luxurious, with heated floors and rainfall showers.

It was all so different from the life he had led before. He had been used to living in a cramped apartment away from his former in-laws, with barely enough money to make ends meet. And now, he was living in a mansion, with more than he could ever imagine. It was hard to believe.

As he continued to explore, he came across a library, filled with books from floor to ceiling. There were classics and modern works, biographies and fiction. And in the center of the room was a large, comfortable-looking leather chair. It was almost as if it was calling to him, inviting him to sit down and get lost in a book.

Derrick sat down in the chair, picking up a book at random. He found himself drawn into the story, completely immersed in the world of the characters. He lost track of time, reading until his eyes began to feel heavy and his body ached with fatigue.

Derrick became hungry and he went over to the kitchen to prepare a meal for himself.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Derrick," one of the servants said, bowing slightly. "But we cannot allow you to cook in the kitchen. It is our job to take care of everything for you. Please, go and relax, and let us do our work."

Derrick was a bit taken aback, but he realized that they were just trying to do their job. He nodded, and walked back to the living room, where he could hear the servants bustling around in the kitchen.

He still couldn't believe this was his life now, but he was beginning to get used to the idea.

Derrick sat down on a couch and thought about his life before, he felt a pang of sadness. He had been little more than a servant to his ex-wife, expected to do all of the housework while she lived a life of luxury.

He had never felt truly appreciated, and he knew that he had deserved better. But now, he had a chance to start over, to have a life that was his own.

He felt a spark of hope, and he knew that he would make the most of this second chance. He would never let himself be taken advantage of again. Derrick made his way to the bathroom, a luxurious oasis with a spacious shower and a deep tub.

He turned on the water, letting it warm up until it was just right. Then, he stepped into the shower, letting the hot water cascade over his body. He closed his eyes, and let the tension and stress of the day wash away.

As he stood there, he couldn't help but think about how different his life was now. Just a few weeks ago, he had been living a life of servitude, feeling trapped and unappreciated.

Derrick came out of the bathroom, the aroma of foods struck his nose. The table was set with fine china and crystal glasses, and a delicious-looking meal was laid out. There was a bowl of steaming soup, a plate of roasted chicken, and a side of vegetables.

Everything looked and smelled amazing, and Derrick's stomach growled in anticipation and he immediately knew that the servants had brought the meal into his bedroom while he was taking a shower. He sat down at the table, feeling a sense of gratitude for this new life he had been given.

He reached for the soup spoon, ready to enjoy the meal that had been prepared for him. Derrick finished his meal, and as the evening wore on, he began to wonder where Ruby was.

She had been gone all day, and he hadn't seen or heard from her since the morning. He began to worry, his mind racing with possibilities. What if something had happened to her? What if she had been in an accident?

As he was lost in his thoughts, he heard the sound of the front door opening. He ran to the entryway, relief flooding through him as he saw Ruby walk through the door. She smiled at him, her eyes bright and her cheeks flushed from the cold air outside.

Ruby went into her bedroom without uttering a word, and Derrick waited in the living room, wondering what she was doing. He didn't want to intrude, but he also couldn't help but feel curious.

After what felt like an eternity, Ruby emerged from her room, her hair in a simple updo and her face free of makeup. She looked stunning, and she smiled at Derrick.

"How was your day?" she asked.

"Great, a thanks to you" Derrick replied.

Ruby streched forth her hand and gave a brown envelope to Derrick. He took the envelope and began to wonder what could possibly be there.

Derrick's eyes widened as he read the letter. He had been expecting a simple note, or perhaps a small gift. But this was something else entirely. He felt a mix of emotions - excitement, trepidation, and a bit of fear.

Working as an assistant director would be a big step up from his previous job, and he wasn't sure he was ready for it. But at the same time, he knew that this was an opportunity he couldn't pass up.

"I don't know what to say," he stutterd, his voice shaking slightly. "This is so unexpected."

"I know it's a lot to take in," Ruby replied, her voice gentle. "But I believe in you, Derrick. I know you have what it takes to be a great assistant director. And I'm willing to give you the chance to prove yourself. My company is known for it's hard work and good work and I would want you to work in line with it's policy. You are expected to fill in the contract, submit it tomorrow and resume work next week"

Derrick took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing heart. "Thank you," he commented, his voice stronger now. "I won't let you down." He reassured.

"I know you won't," Ruby acknowledged, smiling. "Now, let's get you started with some training. I want you to be prepared for your first day. I'll send you some files via Email, containing all you need to know as a newbie."

With that, Ruby disappeared into her room, and Derrick was left all alone with his happinesss. He was equal parts nervous and excited about his new job. But more than anything, he was grateful for the chance that Ruby had given him.

He vowed to himself that he would work hard and prove himself worthy of her faith in him. He glanced at the envelope in his hand, feeling its weight and the possibilities it represented. He was ready to start this new chapter of his life.

As Derrick was walking down the hall, he heard a muffled voice coming from Ruby's room. He stopped, listening closely. Was she on the phone again? Or was she talking to someone else? He couldn't quite make out the words, but the tone of the voice was unmistakably Ruby's.

He hesitated, unsure whether he should go in and interrupt her. But his curiosity got the better of him, and he found himself walking towards the door. He put his hand on the doorknob, his heart beating a little faster.

He leaned forward and discovered that she was on a phone call.

"I'm not meat to be lurking around her door and listening to her phone call conversation" Derrick muttered to himself as he turned to leave, but Ruby made a stricken statement.

"I know that Micheal is mischievous, but why would he accept the marriage and become a second husband while he should be working to better our father's company. Anyways, I'm not so sad that my only brother decided to get married to her because his foolish decision made me have her ex husband Derrick, as my contracted husband.

Micheal can have Anna to himself mum, I no longer care about his life anymore. From the period he made up his mind to fight against me for dad's shares he stopped being my brother. So i'ld appreciate it mum if you stop telling me about him."

Derrick was shocked and confused, he couldn't take in the fact that Micheal, his ex-wife new husband is the brother to his contracted wife.

"How could all these be happening" Was all he could mutter to himself.

"Is this some kind of setup?" He wondered.
