Chapter 7.

When Owen passed the message down to Doris, she couldn't believe her eyes. Her mother was a proud woman and the thought of her having to give up the position of the family CEO must have absolutely displeased her. The family was truly in trouble.

No matter how arrogant and pompous Evelyn could be, she was still her mother. Doris will always remain a Castiel.

Nathan had been starting from over the room's entrance, the petrified face on his wife's face. He also overheard their conversation, and that was when it suddenly hit him.

He was going to make his wife the CEO of her family.

"Doris?" He said, finally announcing his presence.

Her weary face lifted up to face him. "Nathan." Then it all streamed down. She had been a strong woman for so long she was tired. Besides, Nathan was her husband. He had the right to see her ugly face when she cried. She wouldn't pretend she was not hurt. She wouldn't have to be strong this time, because he was here with her.

Nathan rushed forward and brought his wife into his arms, saying soothing words to calm her down. He didn't think he'd seen her break down like that. After the incident that happened three years ago, Doris had been oddly calm and relaxed. She told him crying was for the weak.

For her to have broken down now, she was truly in pain.

"You know I'm working now. It'll be fine, I promise."

"I know." She sniffed. "I know. But, Owen just called now that mother is giving up the CEO's position for anyone that can win the contract. She's desperate, Nathan. And that's only resulting to one solution."

Nathan knew too well. "That you marry stinking Pedro." He chuckled, squinting his eyes and pouting his lips.

Doris was forced to let out a soft laughter, her brown eyes glinting bright under the moon's light. The curtains were up, and the light had been switched off to enjoy the soothing view. Nathan was that kind of man. He hated the bright lustrous light the bulbs produced, plus, he was a lover of the moon. It comforts him, and after their long fight about leaving the curtains open, Nathan had finally won. On the condition that he did so only when the moon was out.

"Yea, stinking Pedro." She agreed, although Pedro wasn't stinking in that way. Stinkin rich, maybe. "And I'll have to give up our baby," there it was. Again with the sorrowful tears.

Nathan didn't like it.

"Here, let me tell you this."Nathan said, clearing his throat. He already knew the contract she had been talking about. After all, it was his company that was offering it to the market. "Let's surprise her. Let's surprise the whole family."

Doris's eyes widened, and her shaped brows furrowed. "What's that?"

Nathan shifted comfortably on the bed, his hands not leaving his wife's. "What company is offering the contract?"

A brow arched in uncertainty. "I dunno. Owen didn't say."

"You need to ask him then. Maybe chat him up,"

"Hmm, I can do that then. Or better still, we can go over there tomorrow. Do you have work on Saturdays?"

Nathan nodded. "Nah."

"Cool then." She said with brightened up eyes, then they slowly dissolved into a perplexed one again. "Why are we, um," she didn't know how to ask. They'd been poor for many years. How are they suddenly going to successfully afford the contract? "Why are you interested? We don't have money." She reminded, and Nathan only smirked.

"Doris, I'll need you to do one thing for me." He said calmly. It hurt his heart like a sharp sword pierced it and remained inside, but he had to. For his sake, for her sake and their baby's sake especially. He couldn't tell her the truth. Yet. "You have to trust me. At all times."

Doris smiled. "Sure."

"No matter how uncomfortable it might get, you have to trust me always. That's all I can say for now."

A frown of worry appeared on her face, and stayed. "Is everything alright? You're scaring me, Nathan."

"It's alright. I promise." He lied. It wasn't alright. But alas, he had to be strong for his family. Then he plastered on his face what looked like a smile. "How about we go to La Bellevue tomorrow night? For dinner."

Doris rolled her eyes. "Nathan, all of our family's fortune combined can not buy us a bottle of water at La Bellevue."

"What?" He was laughing and she wasn't. She probably thought he'd run mad suggesting that they went to get dinner at the most expensive restaurant in Ettavile. "Dude, we're rich now."

"You've worked just one week. Cool, Mr. rich man." She teased, but made no effort to hide the tone of seriousness that hinted in a corner. Where would they ever get that much money to visit the restaurant? It was new in town, no more than five months old.

"I promise you. You, me and our baby girl."

"Says who? It's a boy, love."

"I want them both then."

"No, I don't want twins! Are you kidding me?"

"Twins are cool." Protested Doris.

"How about three?"

"Three what? How about we exchange. I go to work, you carry this baby." She roared into laughter, not because it was so much funny, but because of the high level of impossibility that stood in that sentence.

"I would gladly do that. If not for the force of nature rebuking it." Nathan said through a face of wild grinning.

That night, they laughed, joked, cried and it was truly a divine moment. What could possibly go wrong again? As long as his identity was kept a secret, he would go over to his in-laws, hear from them, then win that position for his wife. He would have his revenge on the Castiels and avenge the death of his parents.

He decided he owed Fernando another visit. What had truly happened to his family? And why was he the only survivor?

There were so many questions to ask, and Nathan Anakin wanted answers to every one of them.

The next morning, Doris and her husband were already at the Castiel's home, and it was so obvious that Evelyn never wanted them over. Owen as well.

"I can't remember the name of the company --" Evelyn was still saying when her son cut her off.

"TMN insurance firm." He announced confidently, and instantly, Nathan's doubt was settled. That was all he needed to hear.

"Why would you even want to know about it?" Evelyn asked, a furrowed brow shot at him.

"It is quite normal for me to find out about it, mother--"

"Oh for the love of God, stop calling me that."

She was right, wasn't she? Evelyn was nothing but a pain in the ass all these while. She was a devil incarnate.

"I'm sorry about that." Nathan said slowly enough, then waited for two seconds, "mother." The taunting look on her face was so interesting to watch that even his wife tried hard to suppress a laugh.
