THE JOHNSON'S FAMILY MEETING 1

The following morning, the members of the Johnson family were in a frenzied rush to gather at their ancestral home. The patriarch of the family, Grandpa Johnson, had urgently summoned them for a meeting.

The tone and manner in which the message was conveyed made it evident that this was a matter of great significance.

Last night, after Emily had made a proposal for the divorce with Alexander, the atmosphere in the house became tensed and silent, there were no further discussions about it until this morning when Emily informed everyone of the meeting at the ancestral home stating it was also mandatory for Alexander to attend.

Of course, the happiest in the house after hearing Emily's proposal of divorce was her mother, Esther. The only comment she made after that was, "Oh! Good riddance,"

In the past, Alexander wasn't usually allowed to the meetings of the members of the Johnson family. The Johnson's saw him as an eyesore and did not view him as a part of their family, hence why they referred to it as a "family meeting."

"It's grandpa's order," Emily said with a cold expression.

Alexander took a deep breath and spoke in a low voice, "Did you really mean what you said last night?"

Emily responded mercilessly, confirming with a "Yes."

"I have a very special opportunity. Very soon, we will have a chance to improve our lives and change our status. I'll take care of you and your family, ensuring you live the best life possible. Even your extended family members will hold you in high esteem," Alexander explained optimistically.

However, Emily's hand met his cheek with a swift slap, and her voice was icy as she interrupted him.

"Wake up, Alex. Are you still a child, daydreaming about a future that may never come? I suppose I've been foolish all this time, thinking you would improve with time. I really regret marrying you."

Alexander's heart was wrenched and his emotions were stirred by the words spoken by her, causing his heartstrings to tighten.

In a dazed state, he remained standing as Emily, her mother, and sister proceeded to the meeting without him. Since they had invited him on their own for the first time and his presence was required at the meeting, he made the decision to postpone his other tasks and prioritize attending the meeting.

He stepped outside a few minutes later, hopped onto his scooter, and headed towards the Johnson family's ancestral home.

The Johnson family's ancestral home was an impressive structure that accommodated multiple members of the family. However, in comparison to the extravagant residences of the elite families in Fairview, it fell short in terms of luxury.

Nevertheless, it still reflected the family's social standing, which was considered to be at the lower end of the third-rate hierarchy.

Emily had the privilege of residing in the ancestral home with her family, which provided them with comfortable living conditions. Unfortunately, after she married Alexander, the family was forced to leave the property, which became a point of contention for her mother, Esther. The mere thought of this eviction served as a trigger for her anger towards Alexander, and it caused a rift between them that was difficult to bridge.

As Alexander entered the meeting hall of his ancestral home, he was met with a hostile atmosphere. Every set of eyes in the room seemed to be fixated on him with expressions of anger, disdain, and hatred, this excluded Joyce.

Tommy Johnson, a cousin of Emily's, was one of the first to voice his displeasure. He sneered at Alexander and berated him for his tardiness. "You're really something, Alexander. Making Grandpa and all of us wait like this. Do you think you're some sort of big shot?"

Tommy's arrogance and entitlement were well-known in the family. Despite his lack of contributions to the family business or any other worthwhile pursuits, he had been raised to believe that he was destined to become the next head of the family. He spent most of his time indulging in his own pleasures, flaunting his wealth and status, and pursuing fleeting romances with various women.

Alexander couldn't help but feel a twinge of annoyance at Tommy's words. After all, he had always tried to be a dutiful member of the family, working hard to make a name for himself unlike Tommy who was handed wealth on a silver platter.

"Enough!!"

The discussion in the meeting hall was suddenly stopped by a loud and deep voice that reverberated throughout the room. All heads turned in unison to the source of the sound, which was none other than Grandpa Johnson. Seeing Alexander had arrived, he decided to make his presence known.

Grandpa Johnson took a seat on the most prominent chair in the hall, and his eyes scanned the room, taking in the faces of everyone present. When his gaze finally rested on Alexander, he paused for a moment before shaking his head in disappointment.

"Alexander," he said with a deep sigh. "You have proven to be a great disappointment. This family has no place for failures."

Everyone held their breath, waiting to see what Grandpa Johnson would do next.

"If, however, you are willing to redeem yourself," Grandpa Johnson continued, his voice firm and unwavering. "I can give you an opportunity to prove your worth."

The room fell silent, and everyone leaned in, eager to hear what Grandpa Johnson had in mind. They knew that his words carried weight, and no one dared to challenge his authority. Even those who wished for Alexander's downfall knew better than to voice their thoughts.

Alexander had a feeling that the opportunity Grandpa Johnson was going to present him with wouldn't be favorable, but he decided listen to what he had to say. "What is it, Grandpa?" he inquired.

Before Grandpa Johnson could utter another word, he was interrupted by a loud voice from outside the meeting hall.

"Ethan of the Blackwell family is here to propose to Emily Johnson,"
