Sophia regarded Adam with her lips pinched together, frustration and scepticism written all over her face,

She had devoted almost a year to caring for her mother and exhausting their resources, pursuing every possible treatment.

To have this stranger question the diagnosis was more than she could bear, and she pursed her lips in thought, shaking her head as she did.

Adam smiled a little, and kept his gaze on her, his eyes twinkling as he did,

"I understand this is difficult to hear," he said gently,

"But as one who has experience, I've seen similar cases being misdiagnosed.” he paused and expelled a breath before he looked at her intently

“Might I examine your mother, with your permission, to be certain? It could mean the difference between life and death."

Sophia hesitated. Some small, desperate part of her wanted to believe help was possible. She nodded reluctantly.
