Chapter 5 I'll Call Him to Clarify
"What?" Florence and Howard thought they heard it wrong. Letting them sink to the bottom of the Edren River? Was she joking? Did she want to kill them?

It was not until the few bodyguards began tying heavy objects around them that they realized the woman was not joking. The insane woman intended to murder them both!

"It's a misunderstanding. This is all a misunderstanding. If you let us go, my family will surely reward you with a handsome sum to thank you!" Florence panicked, so she begged to be spared and apologized

When Howard regained his senses, his legs could not help but shake, and fluid flowed down his thighs. The pungent odor of urine filled the air in an instant.

Kendra walked upstairs, pinching her nose. She approached Ashton, smiling and extending her hand. "Good day, Doctor Levin. I am Kendra. I've come to pick you up on my father's orders."

Ashton did not shake her hand and just nodded.

Kendra frowned as she felt a little upset. She thought that Ashton was very arrogant. As the eldest daughter of the Royal Sealift Group, countless men adored her, and numerous outstanding talents from prominent families had gone to great lengths to meet her and shake hands with her. Ashton, however, ignored her when she took the initiative to shake hands with him.

"Release them, and let's go." Ashton went downstairs. Without even looking at Howard and Florence, he walked straight to the silver van parked across the street.

Kendra followed him down the stairs. Glancing at Florence and Howard, she said, "If Doctor Levin wasn't so kind and tolerant, both of you would have died today! Get the fuck out of here!"

Both Florence and Howard felt incredibly relieved when they were untied. Not daring to stay even a second longer, they fled the neighborhood frantically. They lost their shoes and purse on the way, feeling afraid that the people would catch up to them if they were not fast enough.

Florence began to run her mouth again after they did not pursue them. She turned around and cursed, saying, "Ashton, you ungrateful son of a bitch. How dare you show off with that vixen? This is something I will never forget. I will make you pay as long as you are in Edren County! Also, I doubt you have the guts to kill people, you vixen! You just hired some actors to scare me with fake guns. I will take my time and settle this score with you in the future!"

"Stop shouting, Mom. Hurry up and take me to the hospital. I can't hold on any longer," Howard said, looking and sounding weak.

"Alright, alright. You have to hang on, Howard. I'll call your sister now!" Florence fumbled around, looking for her phone. However, she realized her phone was in her purse, and she had dropped it when they ran out of the neighborhood earlier.

They then supported each other by holding arms while turning around to look for the phone. A silver Bentley appeared out of nowhere at that precise moment. It was followed by two silver vans and four modified Mercedes-Benz G-Class vehicles driven by bodyguards who appeared to be special forces personnel.

Howard's jaw dropped. "Holy crap, what's with this lineup? This is nuts."

"Hold on." He rubbed his eyes and stared at one of the vans. "Am I seeing this right? Is that Ashton riding in that van?"

Tears immediately streamed down Florence's face when she heard that. Sobbing helplessly, she said, "My poor Howard. You've been slapped silly. How would a loser like Ashton afford to ride in cars like these? A convoy like this doesn't even escort Alora, so what makes him worthy of this? Howard, I know you're angry, and you hate that bitch and Ashton, but be patient. I promise you that I'll avenge you!"

Howard stood in place, looking dazed. He rubbed his temple and wondered if he had truly mistaken someone else for Ashton.

After a while, he spat on the ground and said, "Fuck. That son of a bitch hit me so much that I almost lost my mind. I'm even mistaking people for someone else now."

Ashton was resting with his eyes closed in the van, so he did not know what Florence and Howard were thinking. Even if he did, he would not care either.

Kendra was organizing some documents next to him before handing them to him.

"Please have a look at this, Doctor Levin. This is the information of our staff at Bayside Port who suddenly got critically ill in this period. We've hired many local and international specialists to treat them, but it's ineffective. A few of the staff even passed away because they were so severely ill. The Royal Sealift Group can still keep this under wraps for now, and we've handled the aftermath quite well. However, if this persists and we just let the situation worsen, we will have no control over this matter. Therefore, you have to save us, Doctor Levin."

Ashton accepted the documents, giving them a quick scan. "I can't promise that I'll be able to resolve your problem."

"Doctor Levin …" Kendra leaned against him, touching him with her soft, supple skin. Her voice was so gentle and seductive that nobody could resist her. "Doctor Levin, as long as you can handle this trouble for the Royal Sealift Group, I'll do whatever you want me to do."

Ashton pushed her away. "I'll do my best. I won't guarantee that I'll be able to resolve it, but I'm very confident, so please don't worry."

Kendra was stunned. She was not shocked that he was confident but by the fact that he pushed her away. Was he a man, or had Kendra lost the charm she was born with?

Aside from her stunning figure, flawless complexion, and seductive face, her status and bearing were enough to make any man want to embrace, dominate, and adore her. She had the ability to completely satisfy a man's desire to feel superior and dominant.

After all, she was the eldest daughter of the family who owned the Royal Sealift Group. She was not a person an ordinary man could approach.

Kendra could not help but feel strange when she thought about it.

He must be extraordinary! He had the calm composure of a highly experienced person at such a young age, and he never let his emotions show. What else could he be if not an extraordinary man? It seemed that her father was right. Doctor Levin might be able to help resolve the Royal Sealift Group's problem.

Meanwhile, Howard was howling on the bed at Edren Hospital. His face was completely bandaged, with only his eyes, nose, and mouth visible.

Alora arrived quickly, accompanied by a handsome man.

As soon as she opened the door, she was frozen in place. "What happened? How did Howard get so badly hurt?"

Sitting by the bed, Florence angrily said, "It's Ashton. That bastard almost killed your brother. He's such a nasty person. He pretended to be harmless when he was with you, but he immediately let his true colors show after the divorce, stopping at nothing for money. If Howard and I ran any slower, you would be holding a funeral for us now."

"You mean Ashton was the one who did this?" Alora's eyes widened in disbelief.

They were divorced, but she felt she knew him very well. Ashton was a well-educated and pleasant man. He was meticulous, always making compromises, and had never fought with her in all these years. How could he beat up someone who was the epitome of a good man?

"Who else could it be? Alora, you've been fooled by him. He's not a good person at all. He had a mistress behind your back. That vixen was the one who beat us up. She even wanted to tie us to a rock and sink us in the Edren River. She's a vicious bitch!"

Alora furrowed her eyebrows even tighter. He had another woman? Had he been lying to her?

Alora did not believe it.

On the one hand, she was confident in how she judged others. Ashton was not that kind of person. Otherwise, she would not have felt so terrible and guilty after the divorce. On the other hand, she knew her mother's character very well. She was selfish, snobbish, and harsh. Therefore, her words could not be fully trusted. She could say anything to slander Ashton.

"Mom, how did you bump into Ashton? You guys showed up at his door, looking for trouble with him, didn't you?" Alora stared at her mother with suspicion.

Florence's expression darkened. "What are you trying to say, Alora? Do you think I went looking for trouble because I had nothing better to do?" She bent over the bed and started to howl in sorrow. "Howard, both of us are so pitiful. If I had known this would happen, I would have let them kill us."

"Mom!" Alora felt deeply troubled.

The tall and handsome man beside her comforted her. "Alora, you can't tell a person's true colors by appearance. You've known Ashton for some time, but are you confident you truly know everything about him? Men are good at pretending. To be with you, a beautiful woman who's the boss of your own company, he would stop at nothing to leave the best impression on you. Now that both of you are divorced, he knew he would lose everything, so he didn't have to keep pretending. He may be taking out his resentment on your family."

Florence's eyes lit up, and she quickly said, "Mister Cox is right. That's the truth. Thank God my soon-to-be son-in-law understands and is a million times better than the jerk, Ashton."

Tyson smiled. "Missus Latham, you and Howard can just recuperate in peace. I'll deal with this, and I'll make him pay. As long as Ashton's still in Edren County, he won't be able to run away. I'll bring him to you and break every bone in his body. I'll make him understand that a loser like him is nothing, and he's completely worthless after Alora left him."

Florence was so touched that she was almost in tears. She beamed and said, "Alright. I believe in you."

Alora was bewildered. Was Ashton the one who did it? Had she always been wrong about him? Was he a two-faced, vicious jerk?

She massaged her temples for a while, and then she called Ashton. "I'll call him to clarify. If he truly has gone overboard, I'll seek justice for the both of you."
