Chapter 8 Have Your Way With Me
"I've been a doctor for 50 years. I have my pride. Since your family has asked me to treat these patients, it's only natural that they all should be in my charge. If I let a nobody like him take over my patients, it'll be a blot in my career that I can never eliminate. I hope you'll understand, Miss Lockwood." Morgan blocked the door. He would not allow Ashton to enter, no matter what.

The old man's strange behavior amused Ashton, and he said, "Sir, I have a question for you. You feel that letting someone else take over the patients you can't help is a great humiliation. However, as a doctor, don't you think letting the patients you can't cure suffer to death is also humiliating?"

Morgan was taken aback. He did not expect Ashton to be cunning and that his question would rob him of his words. "You are a bastard with a sharp tongue. Who are you to comment on the way I do things? Miss Lockwood, I need you to kick this shameless scammer out now. If not, I'll leave immediately, and I won't treat these patients anymore!"

Kendra's expression darkened. She was still thinking of a way to save Morgan from the embarrassment. However, he left the ball in her court. Clearly, he was trying to put her in a difficult spot.

Her father had explicitly asked her to look for Ashton to save them.

Ashton was the person her father specifically asked her to find to save them. Who would treat the patients if she were to kick him out?

"You talk as if you can cure the illness if you wanted to." Ashton laughed. "Who was the one who said he couldn't do it just now?"

"How dare you—"

"You can't do it, yet you're stopping others from saving lives. Your ability is just as bad as your temper. If I were you, I'd cover my face, get out of there, and stop saying these embarrassing things," said Ashton.

"I—"

"I won't be like you, flaunting my incompetence like it's my strength."

Morgan glared at him, finding it hard to breathe.

He was the top visiting professor from Edren Hospital, the 28th owner of the Heartland Corp, and a doctor who had been practicing medicine for about six decades. However, an inexperienced young man had the audacity to say that he was incompetent!

"Doctor Cook, just let Mister Levin take a look. We have no other choice now, right?" Kendra stifled a smile, then she put herself between them and tried to smooth things over.

"Alright. Fine. Let's see what a kid like you got that you can act so cocky in front of me!" Morgan turned to his side, letting Ashton enter the room. Just as Morgan was about to enter, Ashton shut the door in his face.

Morgan was so furious that he stomped his feet. "You son of a bitch! I'll be waiting here. Let's see how cocky you can be when you let your true colors show later!"

Ashton entered the ward and saw more than 30 patients. All of them were connected to vital signs monitors. Some had such weak vital signs that the monitors kept beeping occasionally. However, many doctors were helpless when they faced a situation like that. That included the insufferably arrogant Morgan.

Ashton walked forward, taking a few simple glances.

"Mister Levin, the Royal Sealift Group mainly does international trades. I'm guessing the reason the crew got ill this time might be related to our newly developed aerospace materials. I suspect that these new materials are radioactive. I've already sent the batch of materials for an examination, but the results are not out yet," Kendra said.

However, she realized Ashton was ignoring her, and he put his fingers on a patient's neck instead. That was an ancient technique used for treating patients.

"I've invited many famous doctors to check on the patients, and nothing was unusual. But you've seen the data on the monitors as well." Kendra pointed at the modern medical devices in their surroundings that were measuring the patients' pulses and vital signs. "All patients' vital signs are in a steep decline."

It was very strange, but after Ashton glanced at them, a smile appeared.

"Why are you smiling, Mister Levin?"

"Be patient. You'll have the answer soon," Ashton said.

Ashton ripped off the patient's clothes and massaged three spots on his chest in one swift motion.

Kendra was stunned as she stared at him. Suddenly, the patient's muscles started to twitch.

"How is this happening?"

"As long as a person is alive, his body would have the innate ability to fight back, so I'm forcing his body to do just that. The harder the muscles twitch, the stronger his bodily functions are."

As soon as he said that, the patient's muscles stopped twitching.

"Huh? Why isn't he moving anymore? Is he dead?" Kendra was shocked. She turned to look at the monitor, and after it let out a deafening alarm, the patient's vital signs on the monitor flatlined.

"As long as his body still can fight back, he'll live," Ashton said.

"Then, is he—"

"Just watch. It's very tiring to explain this to a layperson."

After Ashton cut her off, he massaged 12 other places on the patient's body.

At that moment, the patient suddenly opened his bloodshot eyes. Then, in the next second, he sprung up from the bed and lunged at Ashton, trying to bite him.

"Hmph! It's quite stubborn."

Ashton immediately grabbed the patient's neck. The patient coughed and threw up; a shiny black thing suddenly flew out of his mouth and was caught by Ashton.

"I've found the culprit."

"What? Let me have a look." Kendra quickly got closer.

Ashton opened his hand, and a black and soft larva the size of a nail was wiggling in his palm.

"What is this? It's disgusting!"

Ashton smiled and said, "It's Corpus Vermis. Once this worm enters your body, it'll quickly destroy your organs and take over your consciousness, making you a zombie. Also, the worm will lay eggs in your bloodstream and spread very easily."

Kendra's limbs immediately turned cold in fear when she heard that. "Someone is trying to destroy the Royal Sealift Group!"

She was not stupid. The Royal Sealift Group was going through troubled times, facing many difficulties. Many major businesses in South Edren and North Edren were eyeing them, trying to take advantage of them. Right at that moment, they were attacked by the Corpus Vermis worm. As they faced financial strain and pressure from the public, any mistake could end them.

It was clear that someone had set up a trap for the Lockwood family and the Royal Sealift Group.

"On a smaller scale, you can say that someone is trying to destroy the Royal Sealift Group. But if you look at the bigger picture, Edren County, maybe even the entire South Edren, would face a great disaster once this worm spreads out of control."

Kendra had always been calm and collected, but for the first time, she panicked.

In the next second, Ashton was stunned. He felt something soft hitting his back, pressing tightly against him.

"Mister Levin, I'm begging you, please. You must save the Royal Sealift Group. I'm willing to pay any price. I'm willing to let you have your way with me."
