Result Of The News.

Soon enough, the news was tuned in and the whole family gathered before the TV's screen to hear winner's announcement.

A lady was now talking in the TV. Immediately, Tobin could recognize her. She was the secretary at his firm.

"Hello everyone, I'm Holly Reinfred, secretary from Smiths Automobiles, and I bring you news concerning the bidding of our contract." She began to say, and everyone tensed up, ears sharply pointed with attention. "I will be representing Mr Smith, our firm's CEO..."

When she brought up his name, Tobin had to pause and stare around with an awkward expression on his face. His heart pounded loud and be was now wondering if anyone of them had somehow linked it to the fact that his name had just been called out.

After a while, he realized thay none of them seemed to notice, even his wife. He gave a relief sigh.

The lady continued to talk, as she thanked the names mentioned. She announced also that more names could be added, and from there, Tobin had began to realize that she wasn't calling the name of the winner! Why would she say more names could be added??

Finally, she wished everyone a good evening and then, just like magic, she was gone. He wanted to believe there was a mistake and they would bring her back on screen but that was it.

The whole room was silent. One would think someone had just died.

Cami yelled out. "What did I just watch!"

They all opened their eyes in total shock.

"I'm sure there must have been some sort of mistake or--" Tobin was muttering.

"This is your fault!" Rosa yelled out. "Why did you do this to embarrass us. To embarrass my sister!"

Hailey said nothing, although she was scared. She didn't understand what hand just happened either. Tobin had told her she would win!

"Well sister, get ready to sign divorce paper because your husband has just sold you off now!" Rosa said.

"No, I'm sure there must have been some sort of explanation--" Hailey was saying.

"Are you mad? You're not deaf or blind! Can't you see what just happened now?you have embarrassed us, and shamed us even. Now this is what the Queens will be talking about. I could even be fired!"

"This must be some sort of prank. Or a joke. Tell me this is all comedy!" Rosa yelled.

Again, hailey had to speak. She couldn't just let them continue to speak illy of her husband!

"Listen, sister, Tobin is not the CEO. How do you think he would have known what would happen?" She fired with anger.

Rosa laughed, a mockery one at that. "You are still talking. Don't you understand what has just happened? You will be forced to marry some old man because your husband dared us. Can't you see! And you'll have to abort that baby."

Hailey shook her head and began to cry. "No. There's been a mistake of some such. Right, Tobin? No. I can't marry another man, you're my husband!"

Deep down, Tobin felt like he was running mad. He was the most annoyed person out of them all! How dare his secretary not announce the winner? She should have told him if there was any problem?.

The noise continued. Something pained him more than his in-laws barbaric cries. It was his own wife looking terrified as ever. No. He wouldn't accept defeat like that.

"So that settles it. Hailey, you're coming with me right now." Cami commanded. "I'll have your brother pack the rest of your stuff. Come on!"

Just then, Tobin knew he had to strategize. His in-laws were greedy people, and that was what would save him that night.

"Please, let's listen up." He said but even he couldn't hear his own voice. He tried again and realized he hadn't been confident enough. No, he wasn't ready to let them take his wife!

"Hey everyone! Listen to me." Finally, his voice was bold with authority.

They all listened and so, he began to speak. "I have decided to up the stakes." They all stared at him with wild glances, but no one uttered a word. "If we win, our baby will be the family sole heir and inherit all of the family property. If we, however lose, Hailey will be married to any old man you choose. And I'll be his best man on that day."

Cami and her daughter took a moment to exchange shucking glances.

"And you will be out of her life forever, deal?" Cami asked.

"Deal." Tobin confirmed. He knew he was in a lot of trouble with his wife. He had explaining to do to convince her.

***

Sandro Rosario, a proud millionaire and a local thug, was walking into the building. He seemed like a nice man but he was far from that.

Tobin went to work the next day as he had somehow managed to comfort his wife. He saw Sandro walking towards the company and he frowned.

"What are you doing here now, Sandro." Tobin muttered to himself.

The man was walking with a very fine young woman who looked familiar. She was slender and wore a black dress. He recognized her to be Lisa, a lady rumored to be one of Sandro girlfriends.

The way Tobin had known Sandro was because of his mother in law. He could remember that day so vividly like it was yesterday. That woman was mad and really heartless.

She had introduced him as the one she wanted Hailey to marry once she could send him away from her life. And now, he just made a stupid dare that could ruin their marriage...he decided not to think about that. But then, he knew Sandro and disliked him since then.

Sandro wasn't a good man. He dealt with wicked men and ran dirty jobs for them, that much Tobin knew. But what was he doing at his firm?...or maybe he too wanted to fill a slot in his company as one of the bidders!

Tobin hadn't realized he had been standing outside all along, until Sandro noticed him and made his way over to him.
