chapter 9

Melvis took his time to go shopping at a large shopping center. He was enjoying his time as a newly rich man. Melvis was happy and loved it because he had never spent so much money like this. With the card given to her by Alex, Melvis could buy all the things she used to admire and could never afford.

Melvis looked in the mirror in the dressing room to see himself in a shiny luxury suit. He smiled as he smoothed the collar of her suit. "This is amazing. I really do look like someone who was born into a rich family."

After being satisfied with his appearance, Melvis changed into a luxurious suit with simple clothes. He went to the cashier to pay for his purchases. Since Melvis was paying with a black card, the waiters were confused because the clothes Melvis wore didn't look like a rich person who deserved to use the black card. However, they didn't dare to speak, let alone insult.

Melvis went back around and entered the following few shops. The items he bought were relatively small and trivial things to buy, useless. But Melvis seemed to feel satisfied that he had bought these items.

Melvis smiled at the corner of his lips as he looked at the items in the paper bag in his hand. "I can finally buy these things. Whereas before, I could only admire them from a distance."

Quen bowed his head as he extended his hand to Melvis. "Let me bring them back, sir."

Melvis nodded, then handed the few in his hand to Quen. Melvis resumed his leisurely stroll inside the luxurious and sizable supermarket in the city. He had enough after seeing Quen's two hands and one of his own full of paper bags. Meanwhile, some stores sent many other items home due to Melvis' excessive shopping.

After almost two hours of shopping, Melvis took a short break at the food outlet outside the supermarket. He enjoyed his downtime while taking in the view of the supermarket in the form of a large city park with a large fountain pool.

Quen placed the groceries on a chair near Melvis, then bowed his head respectfully. "Sir, if you'll excuse me, I'll take the car to the parking lot first."

Melvis nodded his head. "Very well. I will wait here." Quen politely withdrew from his presence.

Melvis enjoyed the wind blowing against him. He felt a sense of calmness that he had never felt before because he spent his time working almost every day, even to the point of forgetting to eat and rest properly.

"Oh, who's that?" A woman's familiar voice to Melvis made him turn his head instantly to the voice's origin.

Liona and her friend Anna accidentally saw Melvis sitting relaxed with many paper bags of groceries. They walked over to him. Liona's brow furrowed at the sight of all the groceries. "What are you doing here?"

Melvis turned his face back to the direction he was looking at earlier, trying to ignore Liona. He was reluctant to see the face of the woman who had deceived him. Even his heart ached and resented remembering all the hurtful things the woman had done.

Anna crossed her arms in front of her chest, looking at Melvis with a contemptuous gaze. "It's obvious that he's here to deliver all this stuff." She looked at the paper bags, then deliberately kicked the chair where they were kept, causing them to fall to the floor to get Melvis in trouble.

Melvis, who had been silent, looked sharply at Anna. "Don't you know what you kicked just now? It's an expensive item. You won't be able to compensate. And you two shouldn't be here."

Hearing Melvis' words, Liona instantly laughed with a contemptuous look. "You lowly man. So arrogant. Even if the items in the paper bag were damaged, you should be the one to replace them."

Anna and Liona laughed mockingly at Melvis. However, Melvis responded to their insults with a smile. "Why should I be the one to replace it? It was broken because Anna kicked it, so she should be the one to replace it."

Anna clucked in annoyance as she gazed angrily at Melvis. "You insolent bastard! You're the one who replaced it. Don't you usually always give in to your girlfriend's requests?"

In a mocking tone, Anna said she deliberately wanted to upset Melvis because she knew Melvis and Liona's relationship was over. She even knew how Melvis complied with Liona's every request.

Melvis looked at the two women with a hateful gaze. "Yeah, that was back then. I was just used by her."

Liona laughed as she crossed her arms over her chest. "I used you to do my chores, help me with my daily life, and obey all my orders. And you were willing to do all that."

Melvis was annoyed at Liona, especially since the woman's words seemed unremorseful. "Apparently, you don't feel guilty or regret what you did to me."

"What is she sorry for? You should realize who you are. You're a poor, lowly man, you deserve to be treated like that!" Anna defended Liona, feeling that their status was higher than Melvis's. "Because Liona's purpose in dating you is to take advantage of you."

Melvis smirked as he folded his arms across his chest, turning his face momentarily in the other direction. "I'm grateful for breaking up with an ugly woman like Liona."

Melvis' words just now made Liona angry. Her eyes flashed sharply at Melvis. She pointed an index finger at Melvis' face. "Damn it! I am the most beautiful woman on campus. There will be many men who, like me, are even better and certainly richer. Not poor and despicable like you!"

Melvis grinned at Liona's words. She looked back at the woman with a cold gaze. "Charles' life is now completely ruined, even more than mine. He has nothing left."

Liona snorted in annoyance while rolling her eyes. "I know, and I no longer care about him. I can get another better man. Certainly not a lowly man like you!"

Melvis smiled slightly as he nodded his head. "That's good, then. Because you'll never get the best man like me. There won't be any foolish men like me to take advantage of you!"

Melvis got up from his seat when he saw Quen's car coming closer and closer to him. Liona opened her mouth, about to reply to Melvis' words. But Liona was distracted by the arrival of Quen, who got out of the luxury car.

Liona and Anna were silent with furrowed brows, confused because they didn't recognize the middle-aged man who had left the luxury car. Quen bowed his head respectfully to Melvis as he opened the car door. Quen raised his hand, inviting Melvis to get into the car. "Please, sir."

Liona and Anna were so shocked that their eyes widened, not expecting what they saw just now. Melvis was about to get into the car, then turned to look at Liona with a cold glare. "Quen, put all my purchases into the car's trunk because I need to return to my new home in Orlan immediately."

Liona and Anna's eyes widened as they heard about the area known to be the most elite. They covered their mouths with their palms in disbelief. It made them both look shocked. Especially when Quen bowed his head again, then carried all the paper bags on the seats into the car trunk.
