07. The Other Lady.

Jason was overjoyed as he returned back home.

He felt like if he was a drop of water, he would be the wettest, most perfectly round drop ever. A feeling that resembled one like he was at the top of a mountain with large feathery wings and just on the verge of leaping off into the bright sky.

As he sat on the bus on the way home, the words of his butler came playing back in his mind. He was a billionaire!

He was overjoyed, thinking of all the good things that he could do now that he was rich.

If only Lauren was still with him.

All while they were together, he felt like she deserved way more than she was getting from him, he dedicated his life to repaying her for her kindness. He wanted to start a family with her, for them to raise their kids together. But now all that dream had been squashed.

She took all his hopes and dreams and crushed it totally.

Life had a funny way of working. Just when he felt like his life had hit rock bottom, he was gifted with the best gift a man could ever get. In exchange for his humiliation and losing his wife, he got a multi billion dollars worth of fortune. He kind of wished he could have both.

Maybe he would try to reach out to his wife. To try to reach out to the Lauren that he had been married to for all those years.

The door to the apartment was slightly opened, and Jason noticed his steps quickly increasing. Could it be?

He hurried and finally arrived at the entrance of his home. He didn't know how many people were inside but he could hear the sound of muffled sobs.

Was it Lauren?

He pushed the door open expecting to see his wife but instead he was face to face with Erika, his boss's daughter. "Erika? What–" he didn't get the chance to finish his sentence as she ran towards him and threw her arms around his neck. "Oh." She seemed distraught and he didn't know how to comfort her.

After a few seconds of their silent embrace, she released her hold on him. "Are you okay?" She didn't respond, she just stared up at his face.

Jason didn't know why but when she rose up to her toes to kiss him, he didn't stop her. He stood firmly, and as she tried to reach his lips but her small physique made it quite challenging, then he did something he never imagined he would do in all his life.

He bent closer, held her waist and planted a kiss on her slightly opened lips. The caress was brief, only lasting a few seconds but Jason felt it deep in his heart.

"Jason?"

He only regained himself when he heard Lauren's voice. Instantly his arms were released from Erika's body and he turned to face his wife. "Lauren, I…" he didn't know what to say.

"I'll leave you two to talk." Erika's voice was quiet as she spoke and Jason glanced at her. She looked sad and for some reason, it made him feel bad. He watched as she slowly left the apartment, not even looking back at him once.

When they were finally alone, Lauren shut the door. "I see you've moved on already."

Really? Was she really saying that?

He wanted to wave off the accusation, to tell her that she was the only woman for him. That he hadn't forgotten about her and he didn't think he could. But then the image of the betrayal kiss she shared with another man appeared in his mind. And all the emotions he felt was gone. Leaving just his anger. "And if I have?"

"You couldn't even wait till the divorce process was over?"

He scoffed at her statement. Who was she to talk? She didn't even wait for the divorce process to start. "It seems you've forgotten something dear wife, who's the reason we're getting divorced in the first place?"

"No. You can't pin that on me, it was all your fault."

"Really now? Enlighten me darling, how is it my fault?" His voice was getting high and he couldn't deny the tinge of coldness it held but Lauren was really pushing him.

"I loved you wholeheartedly! Even though you had nothing! I loved you without worrying about what you could do for me in return. I was just satisfied with having you in my life. I didn't mind paying the bills, I didn't mind putting food on the table, all that mattered was that you were with me!"

"And what changed?"

"I got tired!!" She cried out and he almost rolled his eyes. "I got tired of doing it all by myself. I got tired of–"

"Shut up." He whispered, then added more loudly. "Shut the fuck up!!" She was crying but it didn't bother him. "You got tired? All those times we were together, even before we eventually got married, you weren't tired. We got married, and lived together for over two years, two fucking years Lauren! Still, you didn't get tired.

But suddenly, some strange rich guys shows up into your life and then you got tired?

Don't give me that bullshit!"

"Jason–"

"You were bought. He offered you something I didn't have, and you immediately chose him over me. You forgot all the promises we made, all the times we spent together. You threw it all away, and just for what, that fancy diamond around your neck?

Diamond rings and bracelets? Or expensive shoes?

If only you know."

If only she knew his plan for her. If only she knew that he was more than capable of taking care of her and her every need at the time.

If she had just been patient a little longer, he would have gotten her something worth more than all he gave to her.

"Know what?" She stared at his face, obviously waiting for a reply. "Know what Jason?"

"Forget it." He started towards the entrance but paused a few steps away from the door. "Prepare an estimation of the amount you spent during our marriage. I'm ready to pay you back, not leaving a single dime."
