06. The Decision.

Jason still couldn't wrap his head around the events that had taken place in his life within the space of just two weeks. It still felt like it was a dream, or a movie…something he was watching from somewhere else, not what had actually happened to him.

He had been thinking for almost two days, and something still didn't add up. He had been married to Lauren for over two years, and she had never for once complained about his financial status. She knew he was lacking financially and she was okay with him. They were actually happy together. So why the sudden request for a divorce?

Then there was the issue with his 'kidnapping' the other day. Could they actually be saying the truth? He used to live a luxurious life, in that magnificent castle.

He recalled that they had asked him to come back, "We have much to discuss." The old man had said. His phone vibrated to life and he turned it over to view the caller's identity. "Right." He hadn't been to work for the past two days. But what was the point? The person he was trying to work for had left him.

He waited for the phone to stop its ringing before putting the device back in his pocket.

He didn't know what to do so he just got up and left the house. The deadline his wife gave him to leave their home would expire in less than two days, and he had nowhere to go. He went out to the street, taking one dragged feet after the other, he had no idea where he was going but he just needed to be away.

He got on the bus, took a turn by that bakery that Lauren used to love. Still unsure of his destination. Finally, he came face to face with that exquisite mansion from the other day. "What am I doing here?" He rang the bell and waited for the security to grant him access to enter.

Once again, Jason was seated in the extravagant living room of the beautiful mansion and even though he felt depressed, he couldn't keep himself from taking in the perfection of designs again.

Jason felt his whole body tighten as the old man gave him the news. He wasn't sure why but he felt almost….afraid. It was too good to be true.

"So, you're saying I'm the one who's going to take over the family fortune?" He asked, his light blue eyes staring brightly at his butler. Of course if truly, he was the son they had really been searching for, he would have to take over. But he was far from prepared for such a thing. He hadn't even been able to secure himself a decent job and now he was supposed to become a CEO?

It was not like something like this was a current occurrence in people's lives. Imagine just waking up one day and learning that your parents left you a multi billion dollar empire.

Matthew on the other hand, he begged to differ. "Sire, this household has been waiting for you for years now. It is time." His voice held a mixture of determination and confidence. The confidence that Jason would do excellently at handling his family's business. "Sire, I am an old man, and I could probably die anytime soon, and in fact, I am ready to. I've had a good run in my life and I have no regrets. The only thing that would make my life's purpose fulfilled is by you reclaiming your family's fortune."

"Okay, if that's true then," the younger man said, leaning forward in the comfortable chair.

Whenever Jason was really happy, he always felt as light as a feather, almost like he was swimming in love. That the world and everything around him was suddenly so warm and friendly. He would feel like he was being embraced by the world.

"You know my hidden identity is probably the only thing keeping me alive." He said at last, after reconsidering the words in his mind.

Matthew frowned. He understood what his young master was saying. Loud and clear in fact.

"They all believe I'm dead. If I decide to make some flamboyant return now, what do you think will happen?" He asked, then didn't even wait for an answer. "I'll be on my way to the afterlife, that's what!"

Jason had never really given much thoughts as to how he would die, but being killed by his late parent's rivals was a horrible way to go. He hadn't even achieved anything and he was still hoping he could get through to Lauren.

There was absolutely no way he wanted to die.

"Yes, I understand your worries sire.." The older man agreed with him.

"So I'm guessing a public announcement is off the list, right?" He asked and Matthew nodded. "We'll just have to think of something else."

"Alright sire," Matthew thought and finally reasoned with his young master. "We shall have to think of another way." The old man noticed the frown on Jason's face and he felt concerned. "What is it, sire?"

"If it's alright with you, I'd like to ask about the family's asset." He said, and Matthew dropped the cup of tea in his hands on the little stool by his side.

"You mean, the total asset?"

He nodded a reply. "Yes."

"The Decker family has a fortune worth billions, sire, There are different companies and properties owned all over the city by your father and grandfather. If you need more proof, I shall have all of the documents sent to you by tomorrow so you can go through them yourself."

Jason nodded again, satisfied with the reply he got. Though he couldn't deny the little tingle he felt in his heart. An asset worth billions?

"I would also like to ask for a favor. " When he said that, his butler stared at him with undivided attention. "I would appreciate it if you could transfer some cash to my account." He wasn't sure he was ready to share his painful experience with his wife so he just added. "I'm having accomodation troubles so I need a new place to stay."

"That's not a problem sire. But how about this instead? You could stay at a hotel for a few days while I prepare one of our apartment for you to stay. Of course, I'm still going to transfer the money to you, I just think it would be more comfortable to life in your property rather than a rented one."

That's even better than what he has in mind. "Thanks! That would be awesome."

"Alright then. I'll give you a call when the apartment is ready. I would have preferred you stay here but for security reasons, that would be impossible."

"Yeah I understand." The whole point was not to draw attention to himself so living in a massive mansion was out of the picture.

After concluding their discussion, both men said their goodbyes and Jason left. He couldn't see his grandfather because Matthew said he was away for business but he would return in a day or two, so he promised to go back and see him.
