05. Divorce Paper

There was a bright shade of blue-green along with a set of furniture that was out of this world. It was like the perfect blend of old fashion and modern day design.

The lavish set of sofas and cushions made the living room look like a modern day castle, while the light wood side table and the coffee table that tree stump for legs nailed down that hang-loosed aura. The perfect mixture of convenient but orderly.

It had large glass windows, allowing more than enough room for sufficent sunlight and fresh air to flow in. The walls were perfectly built, standing tall as if it had been existing since the dawn of time.

The whole area was sparkling clean and was as neat as a pin, it's vicinity brimming with the delightful essence of lavender. For a split second, a memory appeared in his mind and Jason remembered that he used to love lavender. He didn't remember clearly but it felt like it was the scent of someone he loved.

"You used to love lavender sire, that's why we made it the official scent of the air fresheners." The slender man, who called himself Jason's butler said. Almost like he had been reading his mind.

Jason stared at the man, trying to remember him but he couldn't. "Who are you, really?" He asked, straightening his posture. He had dark black hair and he was on a low cut. "I don't think I know you." He added, still studying the man in front of him.

The older man was delighted to be reunited with his Young Master. Finally! After many years of searching. He stared at Jason, his deep brown eyes shining with a mixture of joy and pleasure. "Sire, it's me. Don't you remember? It's Matthew." He sounded somewhat disappointed that Jason didn't recognize him.

"He used to be your butler back when you were young." The other man appeared by the entrance and Matthew rose to his feet.

"He says he doesn't remember sire." Matthew reported as the other man made his way to them.

"Then I guess you won't remember me as well." The man had a smile on his face but his eyes looked a bit sad.

"I don't think…" Jason was sure he didn't know him but there was something about him that felt…familiar. "I know you, don't I?"

The old man chuckled softly at his question. "Well if you put it that way, you're not far off. I'm your grandfather."

"If all of this is true, then why don't I remember? Why don't I know any of you?" Not knowing was really frustrating. Being in that house gave him feelings of nostalgia, almost like he was homesick.

His brain told him that both men seated in front of him were strangers and that he had never been there before. But his heart told him otherwise.

"What do you remember about your childhood?" The man who claimed to be his grandfather questioned, raising his rather fuzzy brow at him.

"I know I grew up at an orphanage but I can't remember anything before that." Everytime he tried to dig deeper, to try and remember his time before the orphanage, it would get all hazy, so he decided not to dwell on his past and instead focus on his future.

"You used to live here, with your parents. Matthew was your butler, and our lives used to be perfect…until those snakes slithered into our lives and ruined it." His voice grew rigid and his face was crinkled into a frown, indicating that something bad had happened.

"What happened?" When they mentioned his parents, Jason was suddenly concerned. "Did something happen to my parents?"

"Sire–"

His answer was interrupted by the sound of a ringing phone. "Sorry," Jason apologized as he removed his phone from his pocket. "It's my wife."

"Go ahead sire."

"Hi."

"Where are you? I wanna talk."

That icy edge was still in her voice, but Jason didn't mind. He just wanted to know what was going on. "I'm on my way." She hung up and he turned to face both men. "I'm really sorry but I have to go, my wife needs me."

"Of course sire."

"If you can, I would like you to come back. It could be today or tomorrow, but please come back. We have a lot to discuss." His grandfather added and Jason just nodded in reply.

When he arrived home, the door was unlocked so he just went in. Lauren and her entire family were in the living room, including the man she kissed. She didn't look at him but he knew she already noticed him.

He took a seat next to her, waiting for her to start but intsead she just handed him a piece of paper.

He wasn't sure what was happening but the devious look on his mother in law's face hinted that it wasn't good. He accepted it and quietly scanned through the contents. When he was done, he felt his heart tightened. "What the hell is this?!" He shot up, anger burning his skin. "Are you fucking kidding me?! What the fuck is going on Lauren?!" He didn't care that he was raising his voice, this was too much.

"Jason, keep your voice down."

"Don't fucking tell me to keep my voice down!! Do you have any idea what you're saying?!"

"Yes! I want a divorce Jason! I am sick and tired of this nonsense we call a marriage!"

Jason wasn't sure he heard her right. This wasn't his wife, this wasn't his Lauren. "Lauren, honey, what happened? Talk to me. What is going on?"

"She said she wants a divorce, is that so difficult to understand?" Marcus spoke up, annoying Jason even more.

"You! You did this, didn't you? All of you. What the hell do you want from us? Why won't you just let us live happily?!"

"Do you realize you're speaking to your in laws?" Lauren's mother was the one who spoke this time.

It was obvious that she was the mastermind behind all what was going on. Jason was losing his mind, and she seemed to be enjoying every bit of it.

He ignored her comment and turned his attention back to his wife. "Lauren–"

"I want you to move out of my apartment."

"What?!"

"I know you don't have anywhere to go, so I'm giving you four days to move your things. I bought most of them for you but I'm giving you the privilege to take them all."

"Lauren, what happened? Why are you doing this?" Jason was very much aware of the tears at the corner of his eyes but he did nothing about them. "I know you love me Lauren, your mother is behind all this. Don't let her come between us."

"I don't want to have to involve the police on this issue so please I want that divorce paper signed and your things moved out in the next four days."
