13. Eliminating Your Nemesis.

"It's so good to finally have everyone here together. How long has it been? A year?"

"And two months." Lauren's mother affirmed.

"Ohh Lauren my dear, how are you doing?"

"Fine, thank you aunt Celia."

Celia was a sister to Lauren's mother but the two never saw eye to eye. Lauren's mother always wanted to be on top in every aspect. Looks, wealth, status and basically everywhere else. But it never happened.

Celia was the younger sister but she had the best look of the family, and she was the smart one which was why their father handed the family business to her, so she became her natural enemy since.

"Oh where is that nice young chap? What's his name again?...I think it started with a J…Johnson, Jameson?"

"Jason." Lauren corrected.

"Right, Jason. Where is he?"

"We uh…we got divorced." She knew her aunt would be upset because she was the only family member who actually accepted Jason into their family.

"What? Why?!"

"It did–"

"He cheated." Lauren's mother replied instead. "Please don't say anything else on this matter Celia." She warned.

"Whatever you say big sis." She took a sip of her wine. "Oh, I almost forgot. I'm sure you guys have heard of the Deluxe Dance,"

Due to her wide range of connections, Celia was able to attend the dance every year, giving Lauren's mother additional reasons to hate her, since she never had the privilege.

"Of course we have, and not only that, Lauren is attending." Well if she couldn't go herself, she might as well brag about the fact that her daughter was going.

"But this is her first time, is it not? So she doesn't know about the prize then?"

"Prize?" Whenever she heard about money or a prize, Lauren's mother was always at alert.

"Yes. At the end of the ceremony, a prize is awarded to a specific company, and it's usually worth millions."

"Worth millions?"

"Relax, Mabel. Things like that are usually rigged and they're almost impossible to win." Lauren's father said, his bold voice dominating the room. "Don't put too much pressure on yourself Lauren, just try your best to make enough connections that will aid the growth of your company. That's what I do."

"Okay father, thank you for your advice."

"Wait, Mabel since your husband attends, why don't you go with him?"

"It doesn't work that way Celia. We have different companies, so it would be too confusing." The real reason though was because every year, Mabel's husband attended the ceremony with a lady named Rose, who happened to be his secretary and lover.

"I see."

"I have to go to work now, so if you'll excuse me."

"Where's your CEO?" Since things didn't work out at the headquarters, Phil was hoping he would have better luck at the Decker Automobile.

"Who are you?" The secretary questioned, an uninterested look on her face.

"How dare you?! I'm Phil Garcia you fool! How can you claim not to know me?"

"My apologies sir. What can I do for you?"

"I need an audience with your CEO so we can discuss business."

"He's out at the moment, so I'm afraid whatever you want to say to him, you'll have to say to me and I'll relay your message when he returns." Just then, the office line rang. "Excuse me sir." She reached for the device and waited. "Sir?, oh…okay, very well sir. Of course, I'll do that right away." She hung up and turned her attention back to Phil who was still wearing a frown. "Sir, I'm afraid you'll have to take your leave. "

"Leave?"

"Yes sir. I just got a call from our boss and he said he wants you to leave."

"This is outrageous!" He shot up, startling the young woman a bit. "How can he tell me to leave without even meeting me? That's preposterous!" His bold voice echoed through the four walls of the office as he stomped around angrily.

"Mr Garcia I know you're upset but please, refrain from causing a scene here." She warned with a stern tone to her voice.

"Are you trying to insult me?!"

The CEO of the Decker Automobile hadn't gone anywhere, he was seated in his office with Jason and Jordan, and following Jason's orders, he ordered the secretary to call security and ask them to throw out Phil. Partly because he was still upset that he mistreated Jordan, and because it was part of his revenge.

"Sir, please co operate." They held him by the arm and dragged him out of the office while he kept ranting and thrashing around.

"This is an outrage, it's preposterous. This isn't how you treat a business partner." He kept yelling as he was dragged down the hall, to the elevator and out the building.

"Sorry about that Mr Decker." He apologized later.

"Don't worry about it, Mr Sinclair."

"So, what can I do for you, sir?"

Mr Darwin Sinclair was the Executive Director of the Decker Automobile and he was also part of the chosen few Matthew said he would reveal his identity to.

Apparently, he used to work under Jason's grandfather and the old man had taken him as a son and not an employee, thus influencing his decision in choosing a head for the company.

Although according to Jordan's words, he had never acted out of line, and he took the business like it was his own.

The slightly short man definitely older than Jason was, probably approaching forty or so, but the moment he heard who he was, he had been bowing and calling him sir.

"Yes. It's about Phil Garcia. How deep is our business relationship with him?" He had to know just how connected his company was to his nemesis.

"Well sir, he brought a business proposal I think three years ago, and well, we've been working together ever since. He's not a nice man but he has decent business ideas."

"I see." Jason leaned back in his chair, stroking his chin as if he was trying to decide but he already knew what he wanted to do with him. "Cut him off." He said after a while.

"Sir?"

"I believe I didn't stutter Mr Sinclair. Cut him off."

"Completely?"

"Completely. I can't have a man like that working with me. Or anywhere near me for that matter."

"Of course sir. I'll let the receptionist know so she–"

"Or, do we owe him anything?"

"Of course not sir, here at the Decker Automobiles, we try our best to avoid debt as much as possible."

"Alright then, and I don't think our company could fall if we lose just one client."

"That's impossible sir."

*Okay, then let's cut him off."

"Okay sir, I'll do that right away."

"Thank you, Mr Sinclair."

"Mrs Kings, how lovely to see you again."

"Ah Phil, I was wondering when you would visit us again." They exchanged pleasantries and she invited him in. "Here, have a seat."

"Thank you." He sank in the sofa, crossing his legs, his mind still replaying the embarrassing scene from earlier. "May I have something to drink?, I'm afraid the sun was a bit too hot for my liking." He lied.

The wine was in fact to clear his head and hopefully, take his mind of what happened.

"Of course. Mia!!" A slender young lady rushed out and dropped on her knees. "Fetch my guest here a drink."

"Right away ma'am." She left and returned later with a glass and a cold bottle of red wine, the only thing Phil ever drank. She poured him a drink and turned to her boss. "Do you need anything else ma'am?"

"No. Leave us." She watched Mia, their house maid exit the room and turned back to her guest who was busy gulping down the red wine in his glass. "Glad to see you're enjoying it."

"Yes, it's a fine brand."

"It sure is."

After he emptied the glass, he gently placed it on the tray and faced his host. "Now, down to business. How are things going with Lauren's divorce? Has it not been finalized yet? I'm tired of being in the dark, and Lauren doesn't tell me anything. Honestly, it's rather frustrating."

"Ah yes well, it's almost done. All that's left is signing some documents and that's it. They don't even have to go to court. And as for Lauren not talking, just leave her to me. I'll handle that part."

"Very well, if you say so."

"Yes, so how are things going with the Decker Industries?"

The business proposal Phil desperately wanted to pitch was for the Decker Industries to invest a great amount in a project he was working on with Mabel's company. If he could pull that off, he knew the hefty amount that he would get. But things were staying far from the plan he had made. "The proposal…yes, it's going fine. Perfectly fine." Another lie.

"Are you sure?, I thought I heard you were thrown out of the company twice yesterday."

"What?!, where did you get some ridiculous news from? I can't believe you would believe something so foolish." One thing about Mabel's new son in law, he was an excellent liar so he was doing his best to convince her or else he would lose his future bride. "I've been working with the Decker Industries for over three years and if anything, we're only getting closer." The slight smile on her face hinted the he had convinced her so he leaned back and added. "I have met with their CEO and everything has been concluded so there's nothing to worry about."

Mabel heaved a sigh of relief, if he could actually get the company to invest, it would do her a great deal. Then her company's name would finally be among…the list.

The list consisted of companies the industry was working with and the names on that list usually ended up getting more popular than it already was. The reason was because, the Decker Industries was a really influencial company, and so people believed that any company's name that is written on the list have the potential of becoming the next Decker so they trust them with that recommendation alone.

"That's wonderful. Once everything has been finalized, we can begin the wedding preparation. But before then, try to spend more time with Lauren. Take her out, invite her to your place. Get to know her better."

"Of course, I would love to do that, it's just that I don't understand her these days. It's almost like she doesn't love me anymore."

"I'll talk to her. Be here by twelve PM tomorrow, so you two can go out."

"Okay."
