CHAPTER EIGHTY-NINE

Logan with a face that seemed shadowed with distress let out no a deep sigh -

“So that is it, someway and somehow they've found out about my deal and my plot and all this thanks to your brother, Andre.”

He seemed subjected to his thoughts and was a slave to it, it was obvious that he was already convinced that this was happening, and if it was happening again it showed clearly that it would be very much hard for him to trust her.

“Well if you will believe me, I would just like to say that I didn't say anything… Fine, I might have been a bitch to you in the past but that was all in the past, I can't harm you.”

There was a pause that filled the room and appeared to drift around it, as it was he just was frustrated as he didn't know what or who you believed.

Logan had just told her about that deal that was about to go south after a previous success and this time he didn't hold anything back,  he told her exactly how everything had happened till she was left there as he was speechless and not able to utter a word or statement.

She blinks her eyes at him confused, thoughts running throughout her mind. She wouldn't say that she was broken but the fact that he'd suspected her first amidst all of this that was going on was too hard to control.

“So why would you think I am to blame?" She questioned.

Logan felt a nudge in his chest. At that moment, he could mention a thousand reasons for that but every single bit of them ended with how traumatized he had been about her past.

“You don't expect me to trust you right, after everything that had transpired between us." He muttered.

His words sank deep into her mind, it was obvious she couldn't blame him for failing to trust her, she just had to convince him fully about that part of her.

“Well if you must know, I did nothing of such." She grimaced.

He rubbed his face trying to think through the situation, perhaps because in a way he felt vulnerable she saw that need to trust her, he saw that need to —

“Logan there is something I need to tell you, well not something new but it is something you should pay attention to." She muttered.

He looked up at her feeling rather distressed.

“Tell me what Is it?" He enquired.

When he left her room, Josie couldn't tell what state of mind he was in —

It was good enough that he had listened without throwing back jabs at her but even at that, there was a need for him to do something more serious than what was being expected.

He could picture how it felt, but though it appeared like he had taken her words with a pinch of salt she was certain he'd pay attention to it much later.

******

Surrounded by the quiet stillness of the room, he sat at the seat that had been his favorite, he thought back to several incidents that might have pointed out the fact that she might've been right.

Listening to the sound of his labored breathing. There was that need for him to pay due attention to the entire situation that looked to be happening.

Every square inch of his lungs hurt and he felt even more frustrated, he didn't know how to deal with the entire news, especially the one that was just dumped right on his chest, he’d completed a few calls yet it all looked like the die was cast and he would have to face a

herculean task by working all by himself.

By now he had a drink in his hands still thinking about the situation.

“But how?” He questioned the situation again, confused.

Now, as he leaned against the table,  he fought against the waves of blackness that threatened to overtake his soul.

He paces the room now after pushing himself up.

“Where in the hell was Charlie!"He grimaced.

He could feel that urge to vomit or do something rather drastic at that moment, he

had no idea how he was going to get out of this mess he’d landed in as all he did was stare at the cell phone on the table that looked back at him.

So far his  attempt to contact Charlie, seeking him out with her mind, had only resulted in

a mere spark of more reasons to be worried, it had been three hours since he had sent him on the task, what if they've gotten him-

He picks up his phone and calls. “Why is he not fucking picking!" He grunted dropping it again with a thud as he continued to pace.

Regardless of what it was, it had quickly fizzled out leaving him feeling empty and devastated again with nothing to think about at that moment except the need to fix all of this.

Staring up at the sky through the window he watched as the clouds began to form across the sky.

Letting his mind drift away from the pain that shot through him with every breath. He sips from another cup of martini.

At that moment he was rather devastated, of all times why should Jeff most especially just disappear this way-

He was trying to understand what she had said as well, Josie had pinpointed that Jeff was probably the one who had leaked out the secret, and with the way things were, it was hard to believe it was different from the case at that moment-

Running his  fingers through his hair, as he was filled with that restless daze he realized that the temperature must have risen rather than the rate at which his heart was thudding must have caused the room to be warm

He wasn’t feeling as cold anymore. In fact, a thin film of sweat was forming on his brow and he wiped it off while closing his eyes and relishing the feeling of the cool air as it hit his warm body while he stood by the window.

Suddenly he popped open his eyes. When he heard his phone buzzing.

“Dammit, Charlie what took you so long…” he hollered.

"  I have a lead boss, they need to meet with you,” Charlie muttered.
