Chapter 4: From an important man

Amelia couldn’t contain her happiness. She had never felt so happy since a long time ago. “Are you sure?” she asked, to confirm. Perhaps, her ears were playing tricks on her because it looked surreal. Why would a company want to give her such an order? The funniest thing is that she didn’t even go to any company aside from Acxiom Corporation.

And she wondered how they got her private number. Well, that was possible but what about you the stress they went through before they did? She didn't know if it was worth it.

“Yes ma’am, we would like for you to come over so we can finalise everything,” the voice confirmed.

“Alright, I will be there soon,” she assured and hung up. She screamed in happiness.

Zayn that has stopped walking was looking at Amelia with curiosity, and wondering what was making her so overjoyed. He couldn’t help but notice the change in her mood.

Amelia sneered at him. “As I said, Zayn, I will never surrender! And you will never bring me down!” she said valiantly and walked to her car.

Zayn didn’t know what the good news was all about but he was sure that his plan to have Amelia had been thwarted. It pained and angered him so much. Then, he started to think of what he could do.

.

That morning, Derek decided to go to Aircastle and meet with the vice president. The vice president needed to know he was back and he needed to set some things at the company, he was the new owner anyways.

Derek moved to the receptionist. “I’m here to see the vice president. Can you tell her that Derek is around?”

The receptionist regarded him slowly and suddenly burst into laughter. “Sorry, what did you just say? Do you want to meet with Mike, the security man? Well, I can get across to him for you,” she was still watching Derek, at the clothes he had on. Everything about him showed he was poor.

Derek noticed what she was doing. Well, he hadn’t been able to dress nicely since a year ago when he got married to Amelia. The only nice suit he had was the one Ethan had messed up at the family gathering.

“Don’t look at me like that! I really want to see the vice president. I’m not lying, I’m telling the truth,” Derek explained even though he had no reason to but the five-year lesson had taken its turn on him.

Amelia arrived at Aircastle Limited at this moment. She was still happy when she walked into the lobby. She hesitated when she heard a familiar voice coming from the company. It didn’t take long before she discovered it was Derek. She wondered what he was doing there at that moment as she rushed over. It turned out that Derek was exchanging words with the receptionist. Fear entered her at this. What if Aircastle cancels her order because of Derek’s behaviour?

“You aren’t allowed in,” the receptionist said, with indifference in her voice and an irritated expression.

“You just have to call her and ask. Why is that so hard to do?” Derek stressed. He was actually shocked at the receptionist's display of attitude.

“Did you hear what I just said? You don’t have an appointment with the vice president. So, I can’t let you in. If you continue to prove stubborn, I will have no choice but to call security on you,” she warned.

Aircastle was a big company. So, only prominent and rich people patronise the company. There was no way someone dressed as Derek had a chance. His clothing was off point and he looked like he was really suffering. The receptionist was determined not to let someone like him see the vice president.

“Hello!” Amelia said suddenly as Derek opened his mouth to say something. With a smile directed at the receptionist, she said. “Is everything alright here?” She was very angry at Derek.

The receptionist's countenance changed at the sight of Aphrodite. Why won’t it? Amelia was richly dressed.

“Actually, this man here is only causing a nuisance,” She explained and sent Derek a glare.

“I’m so sorry for whatever he has caused,” Amelia apologised, much to Derek's surprise. She didn’t even ask him what had really happened before jumping to a conclusion. Derek was very disappointed.

“Amelia, I-,” Derek started but Amelia cut in quickly.

“Don’t call my name,” Amelia said arrogantly. “You should be apologising to the receptionist for being such a nuisance. Anyways,” she looked at the receptionist. “The vice president of this company invited me over here,” She explained, disregarding Derek immediately.

Derek couldn’t believe it. Amelia had always been against him for the past year but he thought it was because of her family. But how could she disgrace him so openly?

The receptionist that was satisfied by what had transpired between Amelia and Derek went through the schedule quickly. She looked up at Amelia again. “It has been confirmed, ma’am. You can enter,” she announced.

“What about me?”

The receptionist scoffed. “You can’t enter. You have no qualification to do so. If you continue to prove stubborn, the security will walk you out,” she threatened.

Derek opened his mouth to protest again but Amelia's cold stare shut him up.

Satisfied with what she had done, Amelia walked inside. She hesitated once she was in as she beheld the beautiful lady that was focused on the laptop in front of her.

Amelia cleared her throat meaningfully to get the lady’s attention. ”Good morning ma’am, I’m Amelia. The vice president called me over a few minutes ago,” She explained.

The lady eventually looked up. She was not only beautiful but also young. Amelia doubted if she was the vice president. Perhaps, she was only related to her.

“Yes, hi. I was the one that called you. I’m the vice president,” she announced with a blank expression. She looked away briefly as she rummaged through her drawer for a file. She stretched it out to Amelia. “Here’s the sample contract. You can go home to prepare it. We will sign it in three days,” she said coldly.

Amelia took the contract from her slowly, still shocked at the fact that she was getting the order. Curiosity got the best of her and she opened her mouth before she could stop herself.

“Why did you decide to award this order to me?”

The VP looked at her for a moment, got up, and moved to the sofa. A bunch of rose flowers was on it. She took it and stretched it out to Amelia without another word.

Amelia blinked once, shocked as she took the flower from the VP.

“The flower isn’t from me, it’s from the owner of Aircastle, and he’s the one that gave you the contract,” she announced.
