Chapter 5: A great turn

Amelia still couldn’t comprehend the reason why the owner of the company would give her a flower. She would have thought that the owner was Zayn, if not for the fact that he didn’t boast about it. And she doubted the fact that Zayn would ever help her if she didn't accept to be his woman.

Amelia smelt the flower and a wide smile spread across her face. It doesn’t matter who the owner of Aircastle was, what matters was that she would be able to save her company and she wouldn’t have to marry the disgusting Zayn.

.

Actually, Derek didn’t leave when Amelia went inside. He instead went into hiding and was watching out for when Amelia would come out. After she left, Derek walked back to the receptionist again.

The receptionist recognized him the moment he was moving closer. She felt a stab of annoyance at this. “It looks like you aren’t ready to learn. I’m definitely calling security on you!” she threatened and grabbed the telephone.

Derek ignored her and instead made a call to Fred. He picked it up immediately.

“Hello young master,” Fred said into the receiver.

“I’m in Aircastle and I need to see the VP. Tell her to come out because the receptionist is preventing me from going in,” he explained.

“But you are supposed to show up at home in three days so I can introduce you to all the vp of your father’s companies.”

“Well, it can’t wait. Three days would be too late for me. You don’t have to worry about me. I know how to handle it,” he assured.

“Don’t you worry, young master? Sophia already knows about you,” he revealed. “In fact, she’s looking forward to seeing you. I will call her right now.”

Derek nodded once and hung up.

The security was suddenly standing beside Derek but looking at the receptionist. “Yes, what can I help you with?”

“I want you to walk this nuisance-,” the receptionist gestured at Derek. “-out of this place.”

Derek looked at the security guard. “You have no right to walk me out of here just because I want to see the VP,” he said stubbornly.

“If he doesn’t want to cooperate, bundle him out!” she ordered.

The security guard moved towards Derek. He tried to move him but Derek stood his ground, with a dark frown on his face.

“What is going on here?” a soft but feminine voice cut through the void suddenly.

The receptionist looked at the VP and a gasp escaped her. “What can I help you with, ma’am?”

The security guards let go of Derek immediately and took a step backward.

The VP ignored the receptionist's question and looked at Derek. The blank face suddenly dissolved into a nice smile. “Welcome boss, I have been expecting you.”

The receptionist blinked once, then twice unable to believe it. How could the VP refer to the poor-looking man in front of her as the boss? Perhaps her ears were playing tricks on her. “ Ma’am, this man has been causing a lot of nuisance. So, I told the security to walk him away but he still wouldn’t budge,” she explained with anxiousness.

The VP looked at her for the first time. “What did you just say?” her voice was cold and a dark frown had suddenly appeared on her face again.

The receptionist was terrified.

“This receptionist isn’t the best one for Aircastle. This company should show its superiority in all aspects. We can’t allow her to ruin that image for us,” Derek muttered.

“Yes, I agree with you,” the VP said quickly. “You are fired, Ann,” she announced.

Ann stood still, shocked for a moment, unable to comprehend what has just happened. Realization hit her immediately, the man was indeed close with the VP.

The VP looked at the security. “Walk her out,” she instructed.

Ann rushed to the VP. “Please, don’t fire me! I’m very sorry. Please, it won’t happen again, please!” she beseeched softly. When the VP didn’t respond, she rushed to Derek. “I’m so sorry for looking down on you. I’m really sorry! Please!” she cried as she was led out of the company.

“Please, follow me,” The VP led Derek to the president's office on the upper floor of the company. She opened the door and stepped aside for Derek to walk inside.

Derek regarded the office for a moment in awe. The office wasn’t only spacious but well decorated. There were hints that millions of money were spent on the furniture and the interior decoration of the office.

“Let me pay my respect,” the VP said suddenly while Derek was still looking around. She went on her knees.

Derek turned to look at the VP. “You seem to recognize me. How?”

The VP bowed slightly. “I’m Sophia. My father is Fred,” she revealed.

Derek stared at her for a moment. “What? Fred is your father?”

Sophia nodded once. “I’ve known you, boss, even before today. I can always recognize you even if you aren’t dressed in expensive apparel,” she explained.

Derek was actually impressed. He smiled slightly. “Good. It’s the likes of you that I want in this company. You can get up.”

Sophia got up. “Thank you so much. I made a party arrangement for you in three days, for your inauguration.”

Derek flashed her a smile. “Thanks. Here,” he stretched out his phone to her.

Sophia regarded it for a moment with confusion.

“Are you looking at the phone? I’ve been using it for more than one year,” he laughed briefly. “I want to have your number so that I can contact you directly.”

Sophia nodded once, with a bright smile. “Miss Amelia just left and I did all that my father told me you wanted,” she explained. “If there’s anything else you want, I will do it immediately.”

Derek regarded her for a moment. “Do you know where my mom is?”

Sophia shook her head briefly. “I have no idea but-,” she hesitated as if deliberating if to talk or not.

“But what?” Derek probed in, his heart skipping a beat at the realisation that something bad could have happened to his mother.
