Chapter 2

A wicked smile was plastered on Amelia's face as Maxwell drove out of the hospital.

“Thanks for that, doctor. I am tired of that man.” Amelia said with a smile, extending a handshake to the doctor.

“It's a pleasure.”

Amelia was very fascinated that her plan had worked out. She had met up with the doctor beforehand and deliberately planned out everything. Even though she had been involved in a series of abortions, she was never diagnosed with a weak uterus. She only used it as an excuse to dismiss Maxwell from her life.

“He is just a loser, who doesn't deserve the last bit of me.” She said with a smirk. She dipped her hand into her bag and took out her cell phone.

The wicked smile on her face suddenly disappeared and was replaced by a warm smile, full of love and emotions.

“Hey love, it all went well. Can you hurry to the hospital and pick me up?” She said in a soft tone, her eyelids blinked as she blushed over the phone.

“That's great to hear. I will be there in a minute.” Patrick replied over the phone.

Patrick was Amelia's love right from her college days. Maxwell had saved Amelia's father from death, and he ensured he married Amelia to Maxwell as a token of appreciation.

During their three years of marriage, Maxwell fell greatly in love with Amelia, and it was the opposite in Amelia's case. She never loved Maxwell, and only treated him as a stranger.

It was just about ten minutes after Amelia made a call to Patrick did he arrive.

“That's fast.” Amelia grinned, as Patrick planted a soft kiss on her lips.

“I missed you badly, and couldn't delay seeing you for a bit.” He replied with a smile.

He gently pulled her up from the bed and walked her to the car.

“Oh! That reminds me, where are the papers?” She stopped by the car's door, looking Patrick in the eyes. Her expression showed how eager she was to see the documents.

“They are with the lawyer. We will stop by to get them.” He replied, and Amelia smiled.

“That's great then.”

They both hopped into the car, Patrick turned on the car's engine and drove off.

They both chatted happily, fascinated by their triumph. Finally, they can be together.

Maxwell, who was still furious about her wife's infidelity paced the living room in anger.

“How dare she lie to me? Did she take me for nothing?” He muttered to herself. He seemed so lost in thought, that he didn't hear his phone ringing.

A horn blast drew him out of his thoughts. He pulled the curtains and peeped through the window. A black Mercedes Benz drove into the compound, it was the same one he bought for his wife on her twenty-fifth birthday. He had saved up all of his six months' earnings to get her the car, which she didn't appreciate that much.

“It's not even the latest version.” She had complained when he handed over the keys to her.

Maxwell sighed as Amelia alighted from the vehicle. He strained his eyes further to take a look at the person sitting in the driver's seat, but the tinted window prevented him.

The door opened, and a man, gracefully dressed, alighted from the car.

“Patrick.” Maxwell recognized him in an instant. He had always seen Patrick with Amelia over the years, but whenever he questioned Amelia about him, she always replied “he is just a friend.”

Patrick held Amelia's hand, hugged her, and then proceeded to kiss her.

Maxwell was infuriated about his actions, but he tried to keep his cool.

Amelia pushed the door open without knocking, followed by Patrick.

Maxwell flung his sore gaze at them, his fists clenched in fury.

“Get out of my house,” Maxwell commanded, pointing at Patrick. He need not be told that Patrick was responsible for his wife's infidelity.

“Your house?” Amelia asked with a smirk. She let out a bitter laugh before sitting down on the couch.

“This is my house!” She yelled.

Maxwell couldn't help but reason if Amelia had truly gone crazy. This was the house he built with his own money and sweat, not even a dime of Amelia's money was used in the construction of the house.

“You want to claim authority of the house?” Maxwell asked in surprise.

Amelia clapped her hands, and Patrick moved forward with the documents in his hands. He placed the documents on the table before Maxwell.

“Check the documents out and see for yourself,” Amelia muttered. She crossed her legs and placed her hand on her chin before resting her gaze on Maxwell.

Maxwell grabbed the documents and flung through the pages. His eyes opened wide, and he staggered as he caught hold of something.

“I, Maxwell Arnold, hereby transfer the ownership of my house and assets to Amelia Raymond.” He read out. Multiple thoughts collided in his head, and he felt as if he was going crazy. He glanced at the signature, and it was the same as his.

“You forged my signature?”

“No, you didn't…” Maxwell muttered, as he remembered the day Amelia had requested his signature; she had told him that she needed his signature for a contract, which she badly wanted him to win. Out of love, Maxwell never doubted her, and hurriedly signed on the paper without reading through the contents.

“Don't blame me; blame yourself for being stupid and trusting.” Amelia giggled.

As if the infidelity and house ownership transfer were not enough, even his bank was hacked, and all of his money was withdrawn; his car was the only asset left that was not transferred to Amelia's name.

Maxwell sighed, it seemed the only thing that still belonged to him were his phone, and his old car.

He grabbed his phone and was welcomed by a debit alert on his screen. All of his money has been wiped off.

Amelia dipped her hand into her bag and took out some papers. She threw the papers to Maxwell and urged him to sign them. It was a divorce paper.

Maxwell stared at the divorce papers for a while, his mind clouded with emotions.

“Amelia, after all that I have done for you, this is how you repay me? I will build everything again from scratch, and I will make you regret this day; I will make you regret ever messing up with me; I will make you crash on the floor and beg for my mercy.” Maxwell muttered; he wore an icy expression that somehow sent chilly auras to the deepest bone of Amelia. However, she tried not to show her nervousness and took Maxwell's words as an empty threat.

Maxwell took out a pen and scribbled his signature on the papers, finalizing the divorce.

“I pray our paths don't cross, or else I will ensure I destroy you without considering our previous relationship.”
