Chapter 6

It was Friday morning, and the bustling city of Vancouzer was booming, as people went about their various daily activities like nothing else mattered.

Kelvin rode his bicycle speedily down the road. He was late for work, and he knew his boss wouldn't take it easy with him.

On reaching the small company, sitting in the rural street, two police vehicles were lying in wait, right in front of the company. He couldn't help but wonder what was going on.

He packed his bicycle and sauntered towards the door. On entering the company building, all eyes fell on him. His heartbeat increased as he began to panic, wondering what he had done.

"Kelvin," an unfamiliar voice called him from behind.

He turned around and saw a giant man in a police uniform. He was about 5.9 feet tall, his muscles pushed out of his uniform, displaying his scary nature.

"You're Kelvin right?" The police officer inquired.

"Yes, that's my name." Kelvin retorted confidently. His gaze showed confusion.

"You're under arrest. You have the right to remain silent, anything you do, or say can be used against you." The hefty-looking man said abruptly, and Kelvin flinched.

"I don't understand. What have I done? What's my crime? You have no right to arrest me without a reasonable course." Kelvin argued, but his arguments fell on deaf ears.

He tried to struggle with the police officer, but one more policeman came to the scene. Kelvin was bundled into the police car like a weakling, and he couldn't fight back.

He turned back to face the company, expecting his colleagues to say something in his defense, but fear was written all over their faces.

They stood right in the compound, watching and videoing him as the police took him away.

"At least, tell me what I've done!" Kelvin yelled, as the police vehicle started driving out of the company slowly.

"You stole something very important from the company. Stop pretending like you are innocent, you terrible criminal." The first policeman told him.

Kelvin was shocked, How did they conclude that he stole something? He thought.

Earlier this morning, Kelvin's boss, Gregory, had announced that his strongbox had been stolen. He informed the police immediately, and they landed in the company without wasting time.

After several investigations, they saw CCTV footage of the night before. In the footage, Kelvin entered the company at midnight and he was alone. Hence, he became a prime suspect.

Kelvin bit his lips and nodded his head. "Bitch!" He yelled angrily.

He had resolved to believe that it was the handwork of Katherine. She was probably framing him, just to get back at him for rejecting her indecent offer.

He was thinking of the best way to punish her for this when something caught his attention.

As the police vehicle drove slowly out of the company, there was a young man beside Gregory, he wore an evil smirk that suddenly turned into a mocking laughter.

Kelvin tried to identify who that was, but he couldn't. One thing was sure, whoever it was, he didn't work in the company.

He looked very rich and powerful in his outfit. It dawned on Kelvin that he had been set up for real, Gregory had probably been bribed.

In the Fubris Company, Katherine was sitting comfortably in her office, with her eyes on the computer screen. She had been promoted to the rank of manager, just as she was promised.

Her previous colleagues were now her subordinates and now answer to her.

Gossips of her relationship with Duncan and Kelvin flew around the company, making her feel uncomfortable.

She got the managerial role she had longed for, but it only brought her unhappiness and distress.

She glanced through the transparent glass tiredly and saw the employees gathered in a spot. They must be gossiping again.

She was about to leave her seat to call them to order, when she heard a piece of terrible news from one of the employees.

"Kelvin, the manager's Ex-husband has been arrested. I heard the police picked him up at his place of work today." The employee screamed.

Katherine heard her loud and clear. She paused looking confused. Was that Kelvin they were talking about? She thought, her face covered in shock.

"That young man has suffered. First of all, his wife humiliated and divorced him. Now, he has been arrested. Who knows who is behind it this time." One of the employees blustered.

Katherine quickly logged off her work and searched on her computer.

A rush of despair fluttered within her, as she saw the shocking news headline on her screen. It was Kelvin's arrest, he was accused of stealing his manager's Strongbox.

Katherine knew it had to be a set-up. "Kelvin was too humble and respectful, to reduce himself to such a crime." She thought.

"Damn! I warned you, Kelvin," she said to no one in particular. She bit her lips and paced around the office in frustration. She wanted to save him, but where would she begin?

She quickly dialed Duncan's phone, but it wasn't connecting. At this point, she was sweating all over her face. As she paced around the office in frustration, a call came into her phone.

She rushed to pick it up, thinking it was Duncan. But on reaching the phone, it was Gallagher, Duncan's father. He was the overall boss of the company.

Katherine took a long breath, to calm her nerves before picking up the call.

"Hello sir," her captivating melodious voice greeted him peacefully.

"You mind telling me where my son is, and why can't I reach his phone?" Gallagher roared angrily. He had been trying to reach Duncan too, but his efforts failed.

"I've been trying to reach him sir, but his phone is not going through. I'll ensure he calls you back once I can reach him." Katherine said.

"Good. Now go outside and welcome the new CEO of the company. They're already on their way." Gallagher said, leaving Katherine confused.

Kelvin's Uncle, Theo, had bought the company the previous night.

The company board was surprised that the biggest consortium in the country wanted their company. They weren't expecting such a move, but they didn't know the truth behind what just happened.

Katherine stood perplexed, with different thoughts running through her mind. What does he mean by new CEO? Did they sell the company? If the company has been sold, will she retain her status as the manager?

She was confused about whether to focus her mind on Kelvin's case or the new development in the company that might just see her stripped of her position.
