Chapter 5

At exactly 11:30 a.m., Kelvin stood right in front of the courtroom, sipping from his canned water. His divorce with Katherine had just been finalized in the courtroom a few minutes earlier.

No one was happier than Mariana, as she smiled sheepishly and basked in the rising sunlight. One would think she had received a medal, for putting so much effort into destroying her daughter's marriage.

Katherine had arranged herself to return home, when she spotted Kelvin standing right by the far end of the building, sipping his water like he didn't care.

She plodded in his direction, with her hands folded across her chest.

"Hey," she greeted, and Kelvin waved his hand like he didn't know who she was.

"Uhh! You've got a moment?" She asked, forcing a smile on her face.

"I definitely don't want to waste it on you, so you can go…" Kelvin retorted carelessly.

"Can you please listen to what I have to say?" She said, raising her voice.

"Gosh! Katherine, you wanted to divorce, I've given you what you wanted. Now I want you to fucking leave me alone. Besides, where is Duncan?"

"Why aren't you guys married already? He should've come with you, so you guys can get married immediately after we complete the divorce."

"Or maybe he doesn't give a damn about you anyway. I wouldn't blame him. No man wants to marry a fucking gold digger, or a bitch."

Kelvin spoke so harshly to her. She tightened her grip on her long red gown and gasped softly. A flush of red spread across her cheeks, a telltale sign of her inner guilt.

"Kelvin, please, listen to what I have to say." She pleaded her voice like a whisper.

"Alright, spill. You've got my attention this one time," Kelvin announced, his gaze facing the bare street.

"Not here Kelv, Let's talk in the car. Please." She pleaded.

Kelvin stared at her for a few seconds, but he granted her the chance. They entered the car, and Katherine turned on the engine and drove off before Kelvin could know what was happening.

"Where the fuck are you going? I never agreed to go anywhere with you. Stop the fucking car, now!" Kelvin yelled, but she wouldn't listen.

She stepped on the gear and fired speedily towards the rural area.

They came to a stop, by the corner of a closed abandoned field. The area was quiet and peaceful, it was just red sand throughout.

"What the fuck are we doing here?" Kevin asked and alighted from the car. He darted his eyes around and glanced at Katherine who had joined him on the hood of the car.

"It's quiet out here, people don't normally come down here, Let's talk."

"So you brought me out here just to talk?" Kelvin asked.

"Just shut up and listen, Kelvin! Look, I'm very sorry for the way I did what I did. I know I hurt you, and I'm sorry OK? It was never my intention. I just didn't have a choice." Katherine said apologetically.

"So what am I supposed to do with this apology of yours?" Kelvin asked.

She sighed and dipped her hand into her gown pocket. She brought out a debit card and handed it over to him, making him stare at her with a confused expression.

"I deposited some money into this account, take it, and leave this city immediately. Duncan is coming for you, and I don't want him to hurt you." She spoke in a soft tone, her eyes locked on Kelvin's.

Kelvin glanced at the card, and then back to her. "What's the meaning of this, do I look like I need your money? What exactly do you take me for Katherine? A beggar huh?" He snapped angrily.

However, Katherine felt bad for what she did. She only wanted to redeem herself, though she never truly regretted her move.

She was after money and power, and wouldn't mind doing it all over again if it would get her what she wanted.

"Kelvin please, do this for me." Duncan will hurt you, and I don't want that for you. You can't fight him, he is rich and powerful." Katherine said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Kelvin burst into laughter on hearing her words.

"Stop pretending like you give a damn about me Katherine. As for your little boy Duncan or whatever his name is, he has no idea what he is up against. I'll deal with him."

"You don't understand Kelvin."

"Oh yes! I do understand Katherine. Fuck it, I'm outta here." He said and turned to leave on foot, ignoring her plea, but she held him back.

She leaned on him, their faces crashed together. She could feel his hard breath all over her face. She placed her hand on his chest and edge closer to his lips.

Their eyes locked on each other's, and Kelvin parted his lips. His eyes filled with so much desire. Katherine sensed how vulnerable he was, and a low smile escaped her mouth in admiration.

"I love you Kelvin, nothing has changed. I hope you can understand why I did what I did. I never enjoyed hurting your feelings."

"Yet, I know I've hurt you badly, and I'll forever regret it. You'll probably never forgive what I have done, No problem, I understand." She spoke with a broken voice, filled with pain and regrets.

Kelvin gasped and wrapped his hands around her waist. He pressed her to himself dominantly, and she pouted her lips, letting out a low smile.

"Yeah! you can take me as a slave this time, but promise me that you'll leave Vancouzer thereafter." She spoke in his mouth, her gaze fixated on his eyes.

On hearing this, his facial expression changed. He pulled away from her and retreated a little. All his desire for her withered away immediately.

"How dare you try to manipulate me emotionally?" He roared angrily.

"Is this what you've become Katherine? What makes you think I still see something in you? As far as I'm concerned, you're nothing but a gold-digging slut."

Kelvin snapped at her, his gaze fierce and filled with disgust. She buried her eyes on her lower body in embarrassment, not knowing what else to do.

"And for your information, I ain't going anywhere. I'll wait to see what your so-called Duncan can do, you crazy betraying bitch!" Kelvin cursed, but she didn't get angry.

She felt humiliated upon hearing Kelvin's words. Her eyes became teary, as she raised her head to his terror-stricken expression.

"I didn't betray you Kelvin. You don't understand, believe me." She said to him with teary eyes, but he didn't feel pity for her.

"You disgust me, Katherine! I always thought I found the best woman in the world, but nah!!!" He retorted.

He turned to walk away, he had run out of words, but she rushed to him, and grabbed his shirt.

"Kelvin please," she cried. She fell on him and buried her face on his chest.

She pulled back and tried to kiss him, but he pushed her to the ground like she was nothing.

When she raised her head, she saw him walking away drastically.

She stood up from the ground and entered the car. A drop of tear escaped her eyes, as she looked at him from her side mirror.

No matter how hard she tried to control her emotions, she burst into uncontrollable tears. "I'm sorry…" she muttered to herself amidst hot tears.
