“What!”
“Who does he think he is? Trying to challenge General Lei Feng family?”
“I think he has a dead wish.”
“I can't wait to see what the dominant daughter of the General would do.”
Just as they were commenting badly about Adrian's behavior, he was less concerned sitting comfortably on a swivel chair.
“What's wrong with you, Adrian? You should help him if you can even though I'm sure you can't,” Brianna scolded him but he was unfazed any of it.
“You're still doubting me. Well, I don't think I'll be able to do anything,” he said in a calm and meek tone.
“Why are you doing this?”
“That's because you were there when this scammer was discriminating me and you did nothing about it.”
“Of course, you believed him over your son-in-law,” he said and swallowed the lump in his throat. His throat was burning with pain coupled with the overwhelming sadness in his mind.
Although he appeared calm and cold, he was weak and heartbroken within. Those who were supposed to support him, were busy supporting a stranger because he was richer than him.
Why did he have to live this type of life? Why was he unfortunate? Why did he have to lose his legs for his ungrateful wife?
Brianna's heart was burning with rage but she dare not to express it because she needed something from him.
Her life was at stake. Even if Adrian didn't like his worthless life, she loved her and she couldn't afford to lose herself for a useless son-in-law.
“I'm sorry about that. That should be enough, right?” She asked in a cold and harsh tone, and he disagreed.
“No. That's not enough. Your apology isn't sincere. I don't want your apology anyway. Your ego won't let you do it,” he said and she ruffled her hair in frustration.
“That's enough,” the young lady, Chloe, yelled, and they kept quiet.
The room fell into a pin-dropped silent.
After a moment of silent, she spoke up. “This is my brother's life so do something about it.”
If there was something he hated about her, it was her gut. She think she could get whatever she want with just a snap of her finger, maybe she could but not when what she wants is in his possessive.
Although his idea seemed ridiculous, he believed in it.
“And what if I don't do something about it? Will you send troops of soldier to take me down?” He asked and she bit on her lower lips.
She could see how pained and heartbroken he was so she didn't bother to drag words with him. And besides, her brother life was at stake.
“State your price. I'll give you whatever amount you need,” she said and he smiled ironically.
“I'm sorry, you can't. And besides, being rich doesn't mean you can buy whatever you want in a snap of a finger. You work for it,” he said, emphasizing on his last statement.
His response got her infuriated. Not only her but the guests who were present in the hall. Once again, he wasn't moved by any of it and that got her concerned.
What else does he want? She proposed a great offer to him but he turned it down.
What a great wimp!
For the first time in her life, someone made her feel irrelevant.
“He has few minutes left to live before he dies,” he announced and they room became noisy.
Just as they were thinking of what he wanted, she spoke up breaking the silent. “I'm sorry for what they did to you earlier. Please save my brother.”
Immediately she finished the statement, he looked up instantly with changed countenance. That was what he wanted, her apology and respect.
The guests were taken aback by her action because Chloe hadn't summited to anyone not even her father but Adrian changed everything.
“She apologized to him? How could he do that?”
“That's impossible. He really got some nerves.”
“I feel like ripping that asshole throat.”
Brianna and Sandra, on the other hand, were burning in anger that he turned down an offer that could make him rich because he wanted her apology and respect.
“Huh?” He asked and pretended as though he didn't hear her. He wanted to be sure she was sincere about it.
Surprisingly, she repeated the same word without mimicking any words.
“That's a good thing to hear,” he said and brought out the leaf from his pocket with a smile beaming on his face.
After all he'd passed through today, he had a reason to smile.
He glanced at the leaf for a while and squeezed it on his face then rubbed it vigorously until it began to burn his palm.
Although he was doing it in a fast face, he was following the process carefully. Since he was prominent in that field, he had no problem making a little antidote.
He quickly scoped the content into the victim's mouth then closed his mouth. He opened the guy's shirt and rubbed his hand on his chest three times before standing up.
“Is that all?” She asked in a calm tone and he nodded his head.
They waited for some minute, and just as they were about to complain, the victim jerked up from the floor breathing out heavily.
Mr. Daniel saw this as an opportunity to grab the spotlight. He rushed toward Micheal and pushed two pill inside his mouth.
After Michael digested the pill, he felt weak and slept on the floor.
“What did you give my brother? He was fine earlier,” Chloe asked coldly and he swallowed hard.
Adrian, who was seated a corner, glanced at Daniel, wondering what he was up to.
“He'll be fine. After close inspection, I presume Mr. Adrian leaf wasn't real and it would have tremendous effect if I didn't tackle it with the pill.”
“The leaf could only make your brother stay longer so he wanted to buy himself time to run from your family's wrath.”
Chloe's eyes reddened in anger when she saw what happened. She was disappointed in Adrian for trying to play her.
For the first time, she thought she'd finally met her match but she didn't know he was a scammer. He deceived her.
She turned to him with a cold look. “Is that true, Adrian?” She asked coldly, disregarding the respect she had for him earlier.
Adrian eyes widened in shock when he realized what was happening. “That's not right,” he denied the allegation but none of them were ready to believe him.
“That's a lie. You're a scammer.”
“Throw him out. You're a liar.”
“Sandra should divorce you for real. Shameless and poor wimp.”
“I didn't do any of what he said. Please try to believe me…” just as he was trying to make her understand him, she interrupted him.
“Keep quiet and leave before I lose my mind,” she yelled and he nodded his head.
Micheal jerked up from his floor sweating and breathing profusely.
Once again, they'd slapped him on the face mentally because he was poor. They chose to believe Daniel even though he saved Micheal because Daniel was richer than him.
“What! Mr. Daniel did it!”
“He brought General Lei Feng son back to life.”
“I wonder why I believed that wimp. We're sorry for misunderstanding you, Mr. Daniel.”
“You're indeed a genius. This is my business card. Give me a call.”
Adrian was getting angrier by each comment he was hearing. Another man was getting the credit for the job he did.
Maybe he didn't belong there. And it wasn't right to be nice.
“I think you should leave,” his wife, Sandra, leaned closer to him and whispered to his ears.
“I'm about to,” he said coldly, looked away, and reached out to his crutches then limped out of the hall.
Just as he was about to enter the cab that he hailed, he heard a familiar voice from behind and left the cab then turned back. His blood burned with anger when he saw the person in his front.
“What is it?” He asked in a cold tone.
“I'm sorry…” he interrupted him before Mr. Daniel could complete his statement.
“Answer my question,” Adrian said firmly.
It was quite unfortunate and funny that after Adrian left, a young woman collapsed on the floor and they were expecting him to revive her back. He'd tried all he could do but it wasn't working so he had to rush to call Adrian so he wouldn't end up in shame.
“I need your help,” he said and explained the situation to Adrian.
For a moment, Adrian laughed mockingly at Daniel, who felt ashamed of himself.
“I can't help you. You're the hero so you should have know problem saving the second one,”
Although it's stranger that another person collapse, he didn't bother about it because it was none of his concern.
“Please forgive me for what happened,” the man apologized but Adrian wasn't ready to forgive not after what he did.
“So what do you want?” He asked coldly after the intensive persuasive.
“Oh! You're here to know the location of the ginseng leaf because there's no way that I can get the leaf from General Lu Xun,” Adrian answered his own question.
“I'll do anything if you can tell me the location of the leaf,” Daniel persuaded and he accepted.
“Okay, fine. But there isn't any way I'm going to help you after how you humiliated me in the hall in the presence of my wife and mother-in-law and her family,” he said conclusively, giving no room for discussion.
“I'm sorry, Mr. Daniel. I don't think I'll be able to help you considering how you embarrassed me over there so I'd suggest you step out of my way,” Adrian said conclusively, giving no room for any conversation. Mr. Daniel wiped off the bead of sweat that formed on his face as he noticed the indifferent look on his face. He wouldn't stoop so low to be begging for a low life if he didn't have what he needed in his possession and his life was at stake. Someone else was in danger and all the guests were all depending on him to turn the tides while he knew nothing about the problem. He had to find an excuse so he could meet up and ask the location of the leaf but it seemed Adrian didn't want to help him. If something happens to the lady, he will be blamed and punished by her powerful father. “Please forgive me, Mr. Adrian. I know I have offended you but I need your forgiveness. The lady will die if nothing is dead,” he said and Adrian chuckled softly. “You're only concerned about he
Adrian bit on his lower lips with an angry look on his face as his gaze on Brian, who had a sly smile on his face as he forced the sedative into the glass cup of drink she was holding. She was so carried away by his sweet words that she didn't notice what he was doing at that moment. He wanted to go forward and challenge Brian to spike the drink of his wife but he stopped himself as he remembered that he wasn't with any evidence. No one would believe it. He could only try to warn his wife to avoid and stay away from Brian. He had always known that Brian didn't have good intentions toward his wife but he didn't tell his wife because she would think he was jealous and she might get angry at him. And besides, she had been loyal to him.He took a cold breath when he remembered that his wife and his mother-in-law were angry at him for turning down General Lei Feng's daughter's offer. He could only hope that she would listen to him and stay away from Brian but he wouldn't be able to d
“How dare you!” Brian dropped his hand from Sarah's waist with a frustrated look on his face as he heard Adrian's voice from behind. He turned back and a soft gasp left his lips as his gaze landed on Adrian. He was awe-struck to see Adrian in his hotel room. Not only did Adrian have the gut to stalk him to the hotel but he also found his way into his hotel room. How did he do it? Why wasn't he thrown out? However, Brian remained unfazed. “It's a wonder how you managed to enter the hotel without being thrown by the security men,” Brian said and chuckled mockingly. Adrian's eyes burned with anger after hearing Brian's statement. He couldn't believe that Brian could still be talking to him in such a way despite what he did to his wife. He moved closer to him and clenched to the crutches with his left hand then raised his right hand and slapped him fiercely on his cheek. Brian staggered backward as the impact of the slap made him lose his stamina. He placed his hand on his right c
“Brian?” Sarah asked with a confused look on her face and he nodded his head. He placed his hand on his chest and cleared his throat. “That’s the truth. He brought you here.”“The other time that I warned you to stay away from him, I saw him putting a substance inside your drink while you were unaware. I warned him to stay away from you but he refused. I came…” she interrupted him with a deep frown on her face before he could finish explaining to her. “Can’t you hear yourself?” She asked with a cold look on her face. “You claimed that it was Brian who brought me to this place but how come that I'm here with you?” she asked in a cold tone and he shook his head with a sigh. He knew it would be hard to convince his wife that he was only trying to help her from the wolf in human clothing. “Please listen and try to understand me,” he said and crouched close to her but she sent a cold glare at him. “I won't. Keep whatever explanation you have to yourself,” she said and he bit on his l
“What!” Adrian gasped out in shock with a surprised look on his face. He couldn't understand why they wanted to arrest him just because he was having a nice time with his wife. Wasn't Sarah his wife? Why all of this? He wished he could get an answer to those questions that were disturbing his mind but he couldn't. He was clueless with no direction. Once again, he would be cheated upon. “Come with you to your custody? What do you mean, officer?” Adrian asked with a confused look, his heart was racing rapidly. “Yes, you have to come with me to the custody for interrogation,” the officer said in a cold tone and Brianna hissed. “What's the meaning of this, officer? I told you that he has sex with my daughter. He assaulted her and you're saying you want to take him away for interrogation.”“I thought you were supposed to take him away and lock him up in a cell,” Brianna said in an angry tone as she turned to the officer. “That's enough, madam. You can't tell me what to do so let me do
What! Adrian gasped out in shock and his mouth widened agape, unable to comprehend the revelation. How is that possible? He asked himself but he couldn't get an answer to himself. He didn't want to believe that the officer was lying. He needed to do something or he might end up in the cell for trying to save his wife, who was almost destroyed by the effect of the aphrodisiac drug. “You can't arrest me. I didn't bring her here,” he adamantly opposed and the officer became impatient. “Don't make me angry, Mr. Man. This is the proof before you so why are you still opposing me? If you don't comply, I would have to force you to then,” the officer said and Adrian kept quiet for a while. He took a deep breath. “You can't arrest me for the crime that I didn't commit. I didn't do anything to her,” he said in a cold tone. Sarah felt the sincerity in his voice but the anger boiling inside of her wouldn't let her admit it. “That's the proof before you. You can check it yourself,” the offic
Brian? He was surprised when he heard his name. He thought the officer called the wrong cellmate until the officer called him by his name after sending his doubt. Why would Brian want to see him and not his wife? Somehow, he was disappointed that it was Brian and not his wife who came to the police station to check up on him. He thought it was his wife at first and he was beginning to have hope until he discovered it was his wife. The level of disappointment he felt couldn't be explained. He wondered why she chose to believe a stranger over him. She would have believed him under any circumstances but she chose not to believe him now. “Are you sure of what you're saying, officer?” He asked and his cellmate scoffed inwardly. “Will you get up and stop questioning me? I thought I had answered your question earlier,” the policeman complained that something was wrong. “Whatever,” Adrian shook his head with a sigh and rolled his eyes at the officer, who failed to notice it because of t
“Okay fine,” Adrian shrugged and moved backward then sat down on the chair. He leaned on the wall behind him and caressed his chin calmly with a sly smile on his face. He shook his head after estimating the time he had left before Dean, who was Dark Ace's minion, would give up the ghost. He wished he could save him but since they had underestimated him, he didn't have any reason to intervene. That was the type of world we live in. The rich or people at higher levels tend to belittle the poor or the less privileged. Or isn't it? “What are we going to do?” Dark Ace asked worriedly but none of them said anything. They couldn't tell what was happening to their friend. “Mr. Lucas, please can you help us?” Dark Ace asked nervously as he turned to a middle-aged man, who was sitting quietly in a corner with a cold look on his face. For the first time, Adrian noticed the presence of another man in the cell room apart from those cellmates who were trying to harass him before one o
