“I'm sorry, Mr. Daniel. I don't think I'll be able to help you considering how you embarrassed me over there so I'd suggest you step out of my way,” Adrian said conclusively, giving no room for any conversation.
Mr. Daniel wiped off the bead of sweat that formed on his face as he noticed the indifferent look on his face.
He wouldn't stoop so low to be begging for a low life if he didn't have what he needed in his possession and his life was at stake.
Someone else was in danger and all the guests were all depending on him to turn the tides while he knew nothing about the problem. He had to find an excuse so he could meet up and ask the location of the leaf but it seemed Adrian didn't want to help him.
If something happens to the lady, he will be blamed and punished by her powerful father.
“Please forgive me, Mr. Adrian. I know I have offended you but I need your forgiveness. The lady will die if nothing is dead,” he said and Adrian chuckled softly.
“You're only concerned about her well-being because she's from an influential and powerful family,” he said and Daniel lowered his head in shame.
Daniel wondered how Adrian knew a lot of things.
“I’ll take my leave,” Adrian said coldly and turned to the right.
Just as he was about to leave, he froze on the spot as Mr. Daniel called him back. “I'm willing to pay twenty-five thousand dollars if you agree to help me find the leaf or revive her back to life.”
Adrian turned to him in awe. Slowly, he began to laugh mockingly at Mr. Daniel. “And do you think I'll agree to help you because of a thousand dollars?” He asked and giggled.
“What amount can you offer that could sum up to the amount that is close to the money that General Lei Feng's daughter offered me?” Adrian asked and Daniel ruffled his hair with a frustrated look on his face.
“Okay fine. But I hope you reconsider. Your wife and mother-in-law are angry at you for turning down Miss Chloe's offer, I'm sure they're going to get back at you and you might not be able to help yourself with any funds,” Daniel said and he looked up at him.
Adrian remained silent for a while, lost in his thoughts. As much as he didn't want to help such a despicable man, he knew he needed to save a life and he might need the money.
After deciding, he spoke up in a hoarse tone. “Fine, I'll do it,” he said in a cold tone.
“You will?” Daniel looked up with a surprised look and he nodded his head.
“Yeah only on one condition,” he said and Daniels arched his eyebrows.
“What is that?”
“I'll help you if you're ready to pay fifty thousand dollars,” he said and Daniel swallowed hard.
“Are you not willing to do it?” He asked and Daniel squeezed out a fake smile on his face.
Adrian ignored him and scoffed.
Daniel was reluctant to pay such a huge amount of money to a handicapped but he knew he had no choice. He couldn't afford to miss his only shot of staying alive.
“Your account number?” Daniel asked and Adrian smiled and then called it out to him.
It was only a matter of seconds before Daniel sent the money to him.
“I have seen it,” Adrian said as he stared at his cracked phone.
“So where is the leaf?” Daniel asked and Adrian stared at him.
“I'm sorry you won't be able to get the leaf now not because I don't want to give you but because the place is far from you and the victim would have died before then,” Adrian said.
“Why did you collect money from you if you know that the leaf isn't in the area?” Daniel asked in an annoyed voice but Adrian was unfazed.
“What do I do?” Daniel ruffled his hair with a frustrated look on his face.
“I study medicines a little so I think I can help without the leaf,” he said and Daniel lashed out.
“A little? Do you think this is child's play, huh?”
“I have said my part and it's left for you to believe me,” Adrian retorted and Daniel kept quiet.
“Fine. Let's go in,” he said.
He wasn't planning to go to the place where he was embarrassed and ridiculed but he had no choice. He had already been paid for it.
“Where is she?” He asked as he ignored the hateful comments he heard from the guests who were present in the hall.
Daniel led him toward her and the guest stepped aside as Adrian leaped closer toward them on his crutches.
He shut his eyes as he placed his hand on her neck and her hand to feel her pulse.
He looked up and turned around as though he was trying to look for something.
He shook his head with a sigh as his gaze landed on the big flower vase in the hall as decoration.
“What did you notice? What's the problem?” Daniel leaned closer to him and asked in a calm tone.
“That’s the problem. Take it away,” he said and pointed at the flower vase.
“Hey. What do you think you're doing…” Adrian interrupted him.
“Listen to me and take it away,” he said.
Daniel ordered one of the guards to take the flower away.
After the guard took the flower vase away, the lady woke up from her consciousness. She looked around with a confused look on her face.
He smiled as he noticed the look on her face. He called for her attention and she looked at him.
Everyone stared at him in awe as though he was a god after what he did. None of them believed him until she regained her consciousness after the vase was taken away.
Who could have believed that a flower vase could be the reason why she blacked out?
“What happened to you?” He asked and she rubbed her hand on her face.
“I don't know. I felt my head burning with excruciating pain after the rays of the sun pierced into my eyes. I saw a trail of blood in a blur before I blacked out,” she explained and he nodded his head.
He understood the problem by her brief explanation.
“You’re on your period, right?” He asked and she looked away with a flushed face.
She was embarrassed by his question. He didn't know that the topic was sensitive to ladies.
“What sort of question is that?”
“Even if you managed to predict the problem, you don't have the right to ask her such a sensitive question.”
He ignored their comments and urged her to answer him.
“Yes. How did you know?” she asked and he smiled.
“It's simple. The flower inside that vase is called the Qimen leaf. The Qimen leaf is a very powerful leaf that is reactive to dirt in humans like blood on men and menstruation in women,” he explained and she smiled.
“It's a good thing that you're fine but you've not fully recovered because the leaf essence is still inside of you. Get Wuyi leaf in any local shop and make tea with it. Make sure to drink it every day for seven days,” he said and gripped his crutches, preparing to leave.
“Please don't leave yet,” she called out and he turned to her.
“I didn't get to know your name. My name is Evelyn,” she said and he nodded my head.
“My name is Adrian,” he responded and shook hands with her.
“Thanks. How do I repay you?” He asked.
“You don't need to repay me,” he said and stepped away from the scene.
He didn't waste time there because he didn't want to be ridiculed like he was earlier after saving someone's life.
Unknown to him, they were all awe-struck by his performance.
Daniel, on the other hand, couldn't help but wonder who Adrian was. Although he looked poor, he seemed to be proficient in whatever he did.
Just as he was about to leave, his gaze caught a glimpse of Brian putting a white substance-like sedative into his wife's drink when she wasn't looking.
Adrian bit on his lower lips with an angry look on his face as his gaze on Brian, who had a sly smile on his face as he forced the sedative into the glass cup of drink she was holding. She was so carried away by his sweet words that she didn't notice what he was doing at that moment. He wanted to go forward and challenge Brian to spike the drink of his wife but he stopped himself as he remembered that he wasn't with any evidence. No one would believe it. He could only try to warn his wife to avoid and stay away from Brian. He had always known that Brian didn't have good intentions toward his wife but he didn't tell his wife because she would think he was jealous and she might get angry at him. And besides, she had been loyal to him.He took a cold breath when he remembered that his wife and his mother-in-law were angry at him for turning down General Lei Feng's daughter's offer. He could only hope that she would listen to him and stay away from Brian but he wouldn't be able to d
“How dare you!” Brian dropped his hand from Sarah's waist with a frustrated look on his face as he heard Adrian's voice from behind. He turned back and a soft gasp left his lips as his gaze landed on Adrian. He was awe-struck to see Adrian in his hotel room. Not only did Adrian have the gut to stalk him to the hotel but he also found his way into his hotel room. How did he do it? Why wasn't he thrown out? However, Brian remained unfazed. “It's a wonder how you managed to enter the hotel without being thrown by the security men,” Brian said and chuckled mockingly. Adrian's eyes burned with anger after hearing Brian's statement. He couldn't believe that Brian could still be talking to him in such a way despite what he did to his wife. He moved closer to him and clenched to the crutches with his left hand then raised his right hand and slapped him fiercely on his cheek. Brian staggered backward as the impact of the slap made him lose his stamina. He placed his hand on his right c
“Brian?” Sarah asked with a confused look on her face and he nodded his head. He placed his hand on his chest and cleared his throat. “That’s the truth. He brought you here.”“The other time that I warned you to stay away from him, I saw him putting a substance inside your drink while you were unaware. I warned him to stay away from you but he refused. I came…” she interrupted him with a deep frown on her face before he could finish explaining to her. “Can’t you hear yourself?” She asked with a cold look on her face. “You claimed that it was Brian who brought me to this place but how come that I'm here with you?” she asked in a cold tone and he shook his head with a sigh. He knew it would be hard to convince his wife that he was only trying to help her from the wolf in human clothing. “Please listen and try to understand me,” he said and crouched close to her but she sent a cold glare at him. “I won't. Keep whatever explanation you have to yourself,” she said and he bit on his l
“What!” Adrian gasped out in shock with a surprised look on his face. He couldn't understand why they wanted to arrest him just because he was having a nice time with his wife. Wasn't Sarah his wife? Why all of this? He wished he could get an answer to those questions that were disturbing his mind but he couldn't. He was clueless with no direction. Once again, he would be cheated upon. “Come with you to your custody? What do you mean, officer?” Adrian asked with a confused look, his heart was racing rapidly. “Yes, you have to come with me to the custody for interrogation,” the officer said in a cold tone and Brianna hissed. “What's the meaning of this, officer? I told you that he has sex with my daughter. He assaulted her and you're saying you want to take him away for interrogation.”“I thought you were supposed to take him away and lock him up in a cell,” Brianna said in an angry tone as she turned to the officer. “That's enough, madam. You can't tell me what to do so let me do
What! Adrian gasped out in shock and his mouth widened agape, unable to comprehend the revelation. How is that possible? He asked himself but he couldn't get an answer to himself. He didn't want to believe that the officer was lying. He needed to do something or he might end up in the cell for trying to save his wife, who was almost destroyed by the effect of the aphrodisiac drug. “You can't arrest me. I didn't bring her here,” he adamantly opposed and the officer became impatient. “Don't make me angry, Mr. Man. This is the proof before you so why are you still opposing me? If you don't comply, I would have to force you to then,” the officer said and Adrian kept quiet for a while. He took a deep breath. “You can't arrest me for the crime that I didn't commit. I didn't do anything to her,” he said in a cold tone. Sarah felt the sincerity in his voice but the anger boiling inside of her wouldn't let her admit it. “That's the proof before you. You can check it yourself,” the offic
Brian? He was surprised when he heard his name. He thought the officer called the wrong cellmate until the officer called him by his name after sending his doubt. Why would Brian want to see him and not his wife? Somehow, he was disappointed that it was Brian and not his wife who came to the police station to check up on him. He thought it was his wife at first and he was beginning to have hope until he discovered it was his wife. The level of disappointment he felt couldn't be explained. He wondered why she chose to believe a stranger over him. She would have believed him under any circumstances but she chose not to believe him now. “Are you sure of what you're saying, officer?” He asked and his cellmate scoffed inwardly. “Will you get up and stop questioning me? I thought I had answered your question earlier,” the policeman complained that something was wrong. “Whatever,” Adrian shook his head with a sigh and rolled his eyes at the officer, who failed to notice it because of t
“Okay fine,” Adrian shrugged and moved backward then sat down on the chair. He leaned on the wall behind him and caressed his chin calmly with a sly smile on his face. He shook his head after estimating the time he had left before Dean, who was Dark Ace's minion, would give up the ghost. He wished he could save him but since they had underestimated him, he didn't have any reason to intervene. That was the type of world we live in. The rich or people at higher levels tend to belittle the poor or the less privileged. Or isn't it? “What are we going to do?” Dark Ace asked worriedly but none of them said anything. They couldn't tell what was happening to their friend. “Mr. Lucas, please can you help us?” Dark Ace asked nervously as he turned to a middle-aged man, who was sitting quietly in a corner with a cold look on his face. For the first time, Adrian noticed the presence of another man in the cell room apart from those cellmates who were trying to harass him before one o
“The commander?” Adrian asked with a worried look on his face and the female officer nodded her head affirmatively. “Are you sure?” He asked again, his heart racing rapidly. He didn't know the crime he had offended, which made the commander interested in seeing him. “Yes. And you should be at ease because he means no harm,” she said and he nodded his head calmly. “Don't worry. You'll be fine,” Dark Ace said and patted his shoulder. “We got your back,” they carried him to his feet and Dean stretched his crutches to him. He couldn't find the genuine smile that crept on his face after those guys helped him up. Unlike the rich people he saved on his wife's birthday, these people before him were grateful for saving their friend's life. He loved it. His head shook slightly after he remembered that he was being called the commander. Was it because of what Brian said? Did he talk to the commander to punish him? Different negative thoughts began to roam around in his head and e
