"Why are you perplexed, aren't you a house boy anyway? Do as she said immediately" one of her friends howled at Greg as well.

These were little girls not much younger than Jose, Melissa was 14 years old spoilt daughter of Desmond. Desmond had her out of wedlock when he was younger but is now married to a beautiful lady from a prominent family. Aside from Ma Carolyn, Melissa does not respect any other person including her father.

"So you lied about being a family member, when you are just a houseboy" one of the guards that was watching what was happening said.

"I told you that I know these types of people, claiming to be one thing or the other just to get a pass at any party " one of the onlookers murmured but loud enough for Greg to hear.

"I know you to be slow but not stupid Greg, don't make me tell Ma Carolyn that you refused to serve me " Melissa said folding her hands to her chest. She was Desmond's first and only daughter and Ma Carolyn's oldest and favorite granddaughter. Getting on Melissa's nerves was akin to directly offending Ma Carolyn.

"I won't be filling your glass Melissa, I'm not a waiter here" Greg said as calmly as he could muster. Though he didn't intend to create a scene, but he was already boiling in anger and people were already gathering to hear what was happening.

"Then watch and see" Melissa said and stormed into the ballroom with her troop of friends following closely behind her.

"Why are these servants too proud these days, just get her the drink" someone from the crowd advised.

"That's exactly what one of my house boys did last week, and guess what? I fired him immediately" Greg listened to all their murmur, he was really suppressing the urge to speak to or fight any of them.

"All I need is the trust fund, what these people are saying don't matter, " he reminded himself. While waiting patiently outside.

Soon some men, obviously sent by Ma Carolyn, came to drag Greg inside.

"My daughter said that you refused to serve her, is that true?" Ma Carolyn asked as soon as the guards dropped Greg on the floor. And as if she wasn't even expecting an answer from Greg, she continued.

"Your job is to serve the Santiagos family, be it cleaning or running errands, and as long as you work for me, every member of this family has every right to send you on an errand. So get to it" Ma Carolyn instructed.

"I didn't come here to serve anyone, Ma Carolyn. I came to ask you for the $10,000 trust fund that my father left in my name, Ma Luci is dying at the hospital and needs an urgent surgical operation" Greg said, cleaning up the mess on his clothes.

"Well if you really care about your mother, then do your Job first" Ma Carolyn threatened, to the cheering of Melissa and her friends.

Greg knew better than to be stubborn to Ma Carolyn, so he reluctantly took the glass from one of the waiters and went to refill it for Melissa and her friends who laughed and taunted him, after that Ma Carolyn flung a $10 bill for him on the floor.

"Trust funds are meant for bonafide children of the family. Not servants, Greg. You are way too ambitious" Carissa chipped in with a frustrated look on her face. She really wished that Greg would disappear so that the party could continue smoothly again.

She was already feeling embarrassed that Augustus had to witness such a show of shame from her family. "Will he still think of marrying me after witnessing all these?" She thought.

Greg's phone rang in his pocket. It was a call from the hospital, he didn't even bother to pick it up because he already knew what it was all about. This is exactly the two weeks time given for Ma Luci's surgery, and he was yet to drop a dime at the hospital.

Instead he fell to his knees and pleaded with Ma Carolyn.

"Please, whatever Ma Luci had done to you. I beg on her behalf please forgive her and help with her hospital bills please. My mother is going to die in few hours time" Greg begged, tears already wailing up in his eyes.

" Let me know when she dies, the Santiagos family will proudly sponsor her burial" Ma Carolyn responded with a scornful grin.

This was the last straw for Greg, Standing up from the floor he made up his mind never to ask for help from any of them ever again. He'll look for other means and pay Ma Luci's hospital bills.

The party was interrupted by the quarrelsome voice of a middle aged woman. Aunt Angela, Emirian's mother as she was struggling to pass by the guards.

"Let her in", Ma Carolyn instructed.

"My daughter will no longer marry this godforsaken bastard. I found a befitting suitor for my daughter" Aunt Angela fumed.

The people around the venue could not control their laughter. Aunt Angela has always been dramatic and everyone in the family knows.

"Mom, aren't you tired of trying to decide my fate? I'm an adult and if I don't want to marry Greg I'll be the person to protest and not you." Emirian spoke for the first time, unlike Carissa she was a girl of few words. She only spoke when necessary and was mostly quiet.

"Shut up your mouth, what do you know? You ungrateful soul, your mates are excelling in their different careers, what have you achieved? You are the reason Ma Carolyn wants to marry you to this beggar, if you did well like Carissa maybe you would have gotten yourself a befitting suitor" Aunt Angela barked at Emirian.

"You should be thankful that I'm trying to save your future, something you can't do for yourself," she continued.

But this marriage stuff was in the least of Greg's problems now, he really needed to get to the hospital to find out why they called earlier. As Greg stormed out of the party, Emirian followed him blocking his way at the entrance.

"You asked for $10,000, I'll give you $9,000 that's all I have. I hope it will help, " she said, still spreading her hands to prevent Greg from escaping.

"Emirian, you don't have to be kind to me. Listen to your mother, your future is not safe with someone like me " Greg said, gently bringing down her hand but it was firmly holding the door handle."I'm not asking you to marry me, I am only offering this help because of Ma Luci, she's a very kind woman, if I were the one in her position, I'm pretty sure she'll be so happy to help me" Emirian insisted.Greg needed the money but he didn't want it to seem like he's taking advantage of a young girl who is still trying to start up her life."I sent you the money already, I'll ask around and see if I can get more" she said peering into her cellphone."How did you get my account details?" Greg asked. He was shocked to see an alert of $9000 adding to the $1.991 million that was already there. Emirian's 9000 just completed the money to $2million."From the family's payroll, you forgot you worked for the family" Emirian smiled, showing off her white teeth.Greg quickly thanked her and boarded a

But Greg has no answers to give him. He was still busy waiting to hear that they had started the surgery on Ma Luci, while he was lost in thoughts. Adolphus noticed the doctor disturbing Greg with his numerous questions."So you are not even remorseful, for keeping Sir Alberto waiting, now you are interrogating him. I see that you are no longer interested in the position of the lead doctor in this hospital" Adolphus wanted to place another call when the doctor flew to the ground, he didn't mind staining his spotless white lab coat. "I'm sorry sir, I didn't mean to keep him waiting, I was just following the hospital's policy. Please forgive me" he whimpered. Anything that has to do with Adolphus, you don't want to get involved because he was a ruthless and highly disciplined man, but even on that, now that the Alberto family is involved he is in for double trouble if he gets on their bad side. Greg rushed to use the family's computer to read the mail sent by the hospital, he had been restless since yesterday night thinking about Ma Luci.Luckily, it was a message addressed to Greg, informing him that Ma Luci made it through the surgery and will in fact be discharged in one week time.Greg heaved a sigh of relief, and his eyes met with the everly expectant eyes of Jose and Emirian. "She's fine, she'll be discharged in one week," he informed them. They were all happy and retired to their respective rooms.Laying still in his mattress, Greg decided it was high time Jose goes back to school, but it should be in a grand style."He shouldn't go back to that public school" he mistakenly said out loud."Is there any problem brother? Jose, who had noticed Greg's restlessness, asked. There were enough rooms for everyone to get a room for themselves but Ma Carolyn only offered one room to both Greg and Jose, so they slept together."No dear, I'm just worried about your schooling" Gr

But Desmond's comment provoked Grandma the most."We are not going to fail! Never!" She yelled."Who will represent this family at the quiz?" Ma Carolyn asked again, to no one in particular. "Please are you Mr. Leonard Wilson, Sir. Gregory's personal assistant?" Desmond asked Leo. "Yes I am, is there any problem?" Leo replied."Why would you be seen with someone as classless as this?"Desmond rolled his eyes at Greg, before turning to Leo."I heard he uses his mother's voodoo to get favours from people" Desmond leaned in to whisper to Leo. "Well, Sir Leo here has offered me a cleaning job at the company. So I don't have to clean for you and your mother again" Greg lied, even Leo was shocked at what Greg just said, but he dared not tell on his boss, not before this riff raff. Desmond laughed heartily, to the astonishment of Leo and other servants who had stopped in their tracks to listen to Desmond making mockery of himself. They have been strictly warned never to reveal Greg's

I haven't done anything wrong" Greg was in serious disbelief, he couldn't believe that Carissa seriously called the security on him."I think he wants to steal the fleur french couture gown" she pointed at Greg as soon as a few security men arrived at the scene. "I was only taking a look at the gown, check your CCTV I haven't even touched it yet; and even if I did, am I not a customer?" Greg told the guards."But why would you be checking something you can't afford if you don't want to steal it" Carissa accused."That's totally unnecessary, the Albertos grandson had purchased this fashion store for his bride " a very deep and authoritative voice bellowed from behind them. Everyone turned to see whom it was, a fine and neatly dressed young man stood tall among other guards. Greg heaved a sigh of relief "Leo never disappoints" he thought. After the encounter with the receptionist, Greg had texted Leo to purchase the fashion store, since Emirian studied fab

"Master, I just received this package. It's addressed to you, and it's from the President," He said.Greg's eyebrows raised in surprise. He hadn't expected any further communication from the President before his departure, especially after what transpired between them in his office. He took the package from Leo's hands, inspecting it carefully."Do you know what's inside?" he asked, a hint of caution in his voice. He was still yet to understand why the president would want to gift him on the day of his departure. "No Master, I didn't open it. The Pres

Greg stepped out of the President's office, his mind still buzzing with the weight of the conversation they had just shared. He knew exactly that from now onwards, he had become a major rivalry to the ruling party. The rule of politics according to Grandpa Alberto says “if you are not with them, you are probably against them. There's nothing like a middle man.” Contest for the upcoming election under a new political party was an immense opportunity, one that he knew would come with its fair share of challenges and threats. And from now onwards he needs to tighten the security around him if he must make it out of this campaign alive. He was joined at the hallway by Leo who had been waiting outside as he made his way back to his office. “I overheard your discussion with the president Sir, do you really think it's a good idea?”“ The idea of leading a campaign without a political godfather is daunting, I don't really think it's a decision you should make in a hurry” Leo advised.

There was no way he was going to sound ungrateful by acting nonchalant especially not to the president. And especially not now that he was actually beginning to consider running for presidency. At first when Grandpa Alberto had mentioned that he should not give in to any pressure from these gullible politicians and accept their goddfatherism terms, he thought to himself."I was never even planning on running for presidency. I just want to focus on the family business and that's all" but it seemed Grandpa has been in this game so long that when he sees someone that has the potential for politics he knows already. He repeated this instruction to Greg so many times, it was as if he knew that Greg would change his mind one day. Turned out, he was actually right. If these gullible men could stay in power and the only thing they do is swallow up public funds, maybe he too shoul
